Copy and paste from my shopping cart on amazon.com. I know theres no case (didnt really know which to get) but do I need anything else than whats on this list? The total is up to 1069.96, this is from theinhibitors setup
Ya you need a couple more things. Besides the case, which will run like 20-100+, you will also need a powersupply. Most of the PS I saw that came with cases suck. A decent power supply will run at least another hundred dollars. That would be about 1300 . Joy to you my friend. I spent 1500 dollars the first time I did this part selection thing and wanted to build a pc. I ended up going through Cyberpowerinc after comparing to iBuypower and other companies like that. If you mess with their special and customize them you can get some pcs a hundred bucks cheaper then offered and also things like free win7 or bulilt in whatever. That one computer build/buy site mentioned above is probably good, what was it, digital storm? Also, I just thought of this, perhaps a new HDD is in order? 60+ dollars for a TB or 1.5TBish.
I'm really not sure on all the specfic prices of parts anymore, but you might get more bang for you buck going with an AMD/ATI combination. The PHENOM II X4 and X6 are fairly priced and if you find a good motherboard to overclock on the lower end cheaper versions of those CPU(and any pocessor in general) become a good buy. You can take a i7 920 at 2.66 up to 3.2 or 3.6 or 4 probably, if you have the proper fans or liquid cool. Fans are generally enough, at least they were when core2 came out. 3rd party CPU and GPU fans are also a good thing to get. $60 bucks for non-stock fans/heatsink. The ATI 5870 is a great card, with the cheap price of an X4 you can add a 5870 in your price range pretty easy.
P.S. The motherboard you chose seems to be a little "eXtreMe" if you ask me. Do you plan on buy 4 graphics cards in the relatively near future? say within a few years? Otherwise you'll just want to continually upgrade 1 or 2 cards. You gotta have alotta cash for stuff like that. Search for more realistic features like Triple channel DDR3 ram or something like that. You gotta research the crap out of parts vs parts or else you might end up unsatisfied and unupgradable in the future. UPGRADING is what building your own PC is really all about to me anyways. Continually upgrading.
The thing is, with the video boost you might get a little bit of a performance booster there, but they generally don't overclock their videocards that high. So yeah, you could select that and notice maybe a little performance boost, and OS boost they will cut out some unnecesary things from the os and stuff to make it perform a little better, but some people argue that you should just keep it and tweak it to your preferences. But, if you're not the type of person to go into your OS and tweak things and nitpick to get optimum performance then sure I would go with it.
better to have someone who knows what they are doing take care of it, thanks for all the help ill go ahead and order it now.
No problem man, hope you enjoy your new rig , post what finaly config you ended up going with, did you keep what I had or did you upgrade the power supply or the case? Either or neither way haha it will be a great rig and shoud serve you well.
That Digital Storm machine is not a good PC for that kind of money ($1275). It only had a dual core i5 which while fine right now, will soon struggle with games. You should be looking at a $400+ video card in a machine for that kind of money, so you should have at least an ATI 5870
This is a site in dutch that builds the best game system for the money every 2 months. I dont know if you can read it but you can atleast checkout the parts that they reccomend. if you build this sytem you are sure that it all will work together nicely

I added both of them and upgraded the hard drive to 1TB. Total is up to 1420, a little more than I thought I was going to spend but I think its going to work out nicely!

wha?
Maybe having so many people with conflicting opinions wasnt the best way to ask for advice lol.
Midgey, building your own PC is a fantastic way to get acquainted with your hardware, as well as getting the best deal for your money, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you do not want to build your own PC.
Sure we could tell you what sounds good, what to buy, how to put it all together, but the truth of the matter is, as simple as it is to some of us, you may not find the task nearly as easy, and in the event the PC doesn't POST or you plug in your case connections wrong, it could be tough to troubleshoot.
For 900 dollars you can buy some great gaming systems that would do very well running FFXIV and come with a support option if an when you run into issues.
It would also be much easier to have a large company with local technicians that can service your PC if you have a problem instead of dealing directly with manufacturers and sending parts away. Not that I agree with most large chain retail techs -- they'd no sooner wipe your PC then find the actual problem, but for the average end user it may be your best bet.
IF you are deadset on building we can work through that as well, but from how you are talking, building may not be your best option.
Thats what I was afraid of. I actually was trying to hire someone to do the research and the work for me, but he didnt seem too interested (someone I know). I know its incredibly selfish of me, but I was sort of looking for a list of everything with a good setup. I would attempt this on my own only im sure I would screw up somewhere
I just feel like im going to be wasting my money if I purchase a pre built pc as most people I talk to now say they havent done that in years. How would that computer I linked stack up to a custom built computer for the same price? And is that a better option than the other one listed in this thread? . If its not that big of a difference buying one from a company then that might really be the smartest choice for me, I am open to suggestions on good deals.
Thanks
That's what I'd dub: Stupid Selfishness, why? Because it's not that hard to research the stuff and figure out a decent mid-range rig.
A mid-range rig will cost you around 700-800USD, and will run almost anything out currently on high-to-max settings, assuming you know how to Overclock (CORRECTLY).
No you don't need to throw away 1,000-2,000 on a "high-end" rig to only gain 10-20 fps in some games. A mid-range gaming computer will last you a good 2-6 years. Note though, you won't be able to play all the latest games in the future at max settings. But it'll set you up for room for upgrading.
Make sure whatever you purchase motherboard wise is flexible. There are many good bargain CPUs you can get. Per say AMD Athlon II x2-3 cores can be unlocked sometimes to Deneb Dies (Phenom II x4 B35 processors) that sometimes have L3 cache and sometimes you can get very lucky and get a C3 stepping. It's rare but, 70USD for a over-all good, processor. That has the ability to be something more, why not?
TL;DR: Stop being lazy.
Me personally: I have a Athlon II x3 unlocked/overclocked on air to 3.8GHz on air, running stable with L3 cache. I got lucky and only had to spend 70$. (aka: Quad-core now instead of the original Tri-Core.)
That Digital Storm machine is not a good PC for that kind of money ($1275). It only had a dual core i5 which while fine right now, will soon struggle with games. You should be looking at a $400+ video card in a machine for that kind of money, so you should have at least an ATI 5870

If you want another person to tell you what to buy, I don't understand why you wouldn't just buy a pre-made computer.
Don't jump in too quickly, take your time and get some more opinions first. A pre-built PC is easy and fast, but make sure all the components are the best value for the money you are paying. the 5850 is only a $300 card, most gamers say to spend 30-40% of your money on your graphics card, so over $1000 you should be loooking at a 5870.
For $1400 you could have a Phenom II hex core, a 5870 in a nice case, with 8GB DDR3 (which is overkill). Plus overclocking this would be pointless right now, overclocking does not see massive gains but small ones.
I find this thread to be total garbage troll thread. He doesnt want to waste his money buying a prebuilt computer. yet knows nothing about computers and wants to build one him self. Hmmm lets see prebuilt like a Dell comes with warranty, self built no warranty.
Why you people are feeding this troll is beyond me.
I know nothing about cars and I dont want to buy one that is already built cause its a waste of money. So I am going to build my own Mustang can you guys tell me where to start? Please pretty please.

All components come with a warranty, for instance my Corsair power supply has a 5 year warranty. I agree with your atatement though, albeit in a different fashion.

Did you read your post? Self-built no warranty. In what world? Hell most parts have a minimum of 2 year warranties. My Evga Video card? Lifetime. My intel processor? 3years. Get the picture? XfX video cards? DOUBLE lifetime, meaning if you sell it to a third party they get the warranty as well.
Knowing nothing about computers and building your own is not going to get you the most for your money. There are alot of sites that make awesome gamming computers. It just blows my mind when people know nothing about computers but want to buld there own because they are cheap. You will spend more time pulling your hair out and wishing you just bought one. Then in 6 months when your video card or mother board takes a digger, aww more money out of your pocket.
This is funny post. The guy is CHEAP and doesnt want to spend alot of money. Telling him about parts like that is not going to keep his pc under 1000 dollars. Lets be freaking serioius here. Thats right give him a list of parts so when hes finshed his pc is 3000 dollars.

If you actually read the content you would have noticed i didnt ask for a computer for under 1k, it wasnt even about money it was about quality. Most people I talk to say pre built computers usually use cheap parts thus most people tell me to build my own, why this thread upsets you so much and you feel the need to jump in and make personal attacks is beyond me.
I am hoping to spend somewhere between 800-1300 bucks total including buying an OS. (ive never tried vista or 7 so I would like a reccommendation on this as well.
Enough said..Some of the parts you are being recommended to buy will cost you 500 bucks for 1 item.
Ok well I have been wanting a new computer for quite some time and since im going to play FFXIV it gives me just another excuse to buy one.
I have never built a computer nor have I ever even looked into it. Ive never been good with this sort of thing and really have no clue what part does what. I have heard that you can build a much better computer for cheaper than it would be to buy one from dell. I already have a very nice monitor so that would not be needed, I would however need to buy an OS with it I guess.
I dont know anything about this stuff but I have heard as long as you follow a guide or some such the actual assembly is pretty straightforward, I just have no clue on everything I need and dont know what to buy.
So if someone is REALLY nice could I possibly get a list of what I need? And if your really up to it recommendations/links would be awesome.

I know its a lot to ask for but im a little nervous with this, as its quite a bit of money going towards something im not too sure about, thanks.
Mate, if you have as little knowledge of computer design and function as you profess, then I honestly think you should save yourself the hassle and avoid trying to put one together yourself. Save and buy one, you have to buy the bits anyway, so just save a while longer and get the job done right.
Also, if you are determined, then save yourself further hassle by not asking for tech advice on a gaming forum - go to one of the dedicated tech forums where you will find the people much more knowledgeable and eager to help you than the hard-nosed old gaming cynics that you'll find on here...

I'm only trying to help you mate, but you go right ahead. And when you're up to your ears in parts you don't understand and fighting to deal with one error after another that you haven't a clue about, come back on here and see how many of these "incredibly helpful" people will have time to sort you out. Trust me, I've been at this a lot longer than you and going by your first post, I'd say I have more chance of getting off with Kate Beckinsale than you have of building a computer that'll play FInal Fantasy! But tear away, pal. Don't forget to let us know how you're getting on now...
Edit - the best advice on here came from Severius btw. To which you replied, "...I'm not too worried about tech. support."
I hope you have limitless patience and money to burn...
