All I can ask is why? Why post this non-sense.... I mean its a legitimate thing to discuss but no... not like that. This is what saddens me... people like you will play the game and piss me off :<
I have the same playstyle bro i hope theres lots of open world pvp. and to the person above me, YOUR nonsense
I doubt it.
Maybe you missed the news in which they announced their version of battlegrounds (I do not remember what they called them) in which conflict between Empire and Old Republic takes place.
Considering the two factions are in a truce at the moment, I do not know how much open world pvp there is going to be, but the fact that there ARE battlegrounds should tell you much, if not all. (Warhammer online for example managed to have both).
We will just have to wait to know more.
Personally, I wish they would make two separate server rules, ala WoW and definitely do not want an open-pvp world as basic setting, it would make little sense to me.
Think about it: This are two countries at war. So what we will have? PLANETS that are in Republic control, PLANETS that are in Imperial control and PLANETS where the fighting is taking place.
Any assault on a Republic or Sith planet by single individuals would make very little sense and if there are neutral areas, ala Tattoine maybe, then... THERE and in the Battlefields of course.
"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"
As stated before, it is already announced that there will be "stupid" zones.
I do hear you, OP, but your wish doesn't fit in with Bioware's concept of a story driven game, especially if they want to get as many casuals as possible in (because that is where the money is, not in hardcore pvp).
Why let it piss you off?? isn't that just letting someone else dictate how you feel??
Why not just play the game PVP and kill them in PVP if it makes you so mad? Or does it give you some sort of comfort getting pissed off at trivial BS?
BTW I hope there is tons of open PVP and no place to hide on the PVP servers....that's Star Wars, the lucky and skilled shall live.
PIRATE LORDS
Im pretty sure there will be battlegrounds dedicated to pvp.
i agree totally, dam idiot that you can instantly tell is about 12yr old
Playing: FFXIV
Future: wishing for SWG 2, World of Warcraft Classic
Played: Most current and extinct MMO's - 18 Years in....
Interesting Fact - I own 27 Tarantula's
And your mad that a 12 year old is posting??? how mature of you......
PIRATE LORDS
Calm down.
THE Rooster Nash
I'm quite content as shown by not calling kids idiots and such.
PIRATE LORDS
I dont mind open pvp but to address the issue I think there should be very harsh death penalties for the pvp'er who starts the battle.
Eh... I'm sure that the "12yr old" comment was a joke, and you're just flaming, as I am, because you have nothing better to do. As I don't. It's not mature. And you don't win any points for it.
THE Rooster Nash
That's actually the biggest load of BS I have ever seen to try and excuse immaturity....at least the kid has a good excuse for it.
PIRATE LORDS
Lol. Ironic these two are arguing in a PvP thread?
Sadly you ill not be getting what you want.
Battlezones are in and a lot of the PvP here is factional.
I expect some of the open world areas will be PvP as from all reports some of the planet areas are massive, but the game in general is not open PvP and never will be so I guess you will have to look elsewhere.
Which is a shame for such an eloquent and educated person as yourself, we need more people like you in the game.

Sorcery must persist, the future is the Citadel
Some of us don't allow people like the OP to cause annoyance , I have a different approach I just feel sorry for people who appear to be neolithic in their ability to communicate. SWTOR is about the game world not PvP and that appears to be the approach Bioware are taking, if they want to build a great game and community they will limit the Open PvP severely (and develop the Factional) or have seperate servers to cater for a small minority of Arena game players who want destroy each others game experience.
I am all for PvP but not griefing ganking and no loose scenarios, but real PvP where all parties know they can loose.

If you like pvp so much then you should play darkfall, mortal online or warhammer. And star wars is not for you...
Limited or no PvP in an online Star Wars game where players are able to play the two opposing main factions... really?
hmmm
I think my immersion within the story will be seriously infringed upon, if i can be in the same area as say a Sith (while I'm a Jedi) and we can't settle our different views on the spot...
Doesn't sound like Star Wars to me if Sith and Jedi aren't fighting..
hehe, sweet...
Look at the bigger picture. Bioware is creating a game to appeal to the masses. They want to focus on the epic storylines of each class. The majority of people do not want to play in an open pvp environment where they can get jumped at any time. Also, everytime you see someone request totally open pvp, you just know that it's so they can gank anyone else, regardless if that other player wants to pvp.
If Bioware offers pvp areas, then true pvp players can go there, and play against other like-minded players. But when people request totally open pvp, it's to force pvp on all other players.
There are lots of game with open pvp, this will not be one of them.
No doubt there will be PvP and PvE server.
I'm not saying full on open world, full loot pvp.. Theres more than one way to have open world PvP.
But for a crowd so standing behind the "story" in their Star Wars... I just find it ammusing that the fellow I quoted said if someone likes PvP, Star Wars is not for you..
As I said in my previous edit.. As a Jedi, if i am questing in the same area as a Sith, and we can happily go about our business, well thats as about immersion breaking as I can think in a Star Wars game..
/shrug
They have already stated that there will be a few areas where you can world pvp. But most of it will take place in instanced battlegrounds type areas.
You can't automatically assume your scenario from the stance of "the story", or "immersion breaking".
The time-line for the game is best summarized by this paragraph from BioWare's web-site:
"After decades of war, a tenuous truce has been established between the Sith Empire and the Republic, but events occurring in the game are leading the galaxy back to an all-out war."
http://www.swtor.com/info/story/setting
Now you may indeed be correct in that the two characters; one being Jedi (Republic) the other being Sith (Empire), would want to fight each other immediately.
However, from the time-period of the story you must also allow that while the two characters above might not like each, they might be willing to respect the "truce" that is still in effect and not engage in open combat with each other.
Either scenario is in-line with the story from an immersion point of view. It's one of the reasons that BioWare chose this time-period for their setting in my opinion. This setting gives them a lot of leeway in just about everything related to the Jedi and Sith.
Some may want to kill each other on sight, others may want to wait for the official pronouncement of war, or the truce being nullified before they partake in overt combat. You can't use the "story" or "immersion" to say either is wrong in this time-period.
Sure I could...
As you said, my Sith character may want to attack on sight (and well be in-line with the story), however, I cannot (perhaps).
As I said, there are ways to allow only consentual open PvP, DAoC did a really nice job of this, and I hope its something Bioware takes into consideration.
I'm sure there will be the obligitory PvE/PvP servers and thats fine. I'll be where i can delve deeply into my characters story (apologies... couldn't resist)
I guess I'm still sort of chuckiling at.. if you want PvP, Star Wars is not for you...
As someone who sat in the theatre in 1977, that thought makes me shudder some.
