Still a grinding bore fest...
servers are quite active, lots of pvp, grouping etc. So, far it has been a lot of fun. I came back after about 8 months away and have been playing quite a bit, trying to level my character up before the expansion. As far as the economy, it isnt bad at all -- just IMO. Since you are already level 50, you might want to wait for the xpansion so you can level up again, unless you wanted to do some pvp and see what 1.9 has to offer you. I am only level 32, so I cant really say if its worth it as a 50 to come back for 1.9 or just wait for the xpac.
As a lvl 50 ranger. I can tell you that yeah the servers are more active, so obviously more pvp. But the big downside to the whole thing is miragents or the asmodian counterpart. Since more people are now competing for tears. It takes a lot more time to get them completely done. Sad face :'(
Abyss: Zerg v Zerg. No skill needed.
PvPvE areas (Morheim/Beluslan/Heiron/Eltnen): Zerg v Rifter.
Dredge: Train. No skill needed.
'PvP' with actual skill is rare.
Btw, just check the main Aion forums. Lots of rage and qq about the game. And someone mentioned this already, if you want full fenris/miragent be prepared to give up having a life, because there's so many others competing for the mats.
Still a typical Korean grinder, nothing new really.

If you have nothing better to do... Aion is a wonderful game!
Grinder.
Blah.
I'd wait for the expansion if I were you, not much has changed for a bored lvl 50 tbh. Faction unbalance has hit a new low as well, so I say give it a month and try it out after the expansion.
If they do end up balancing the factions, the new content in 2.0 will be really fun. Also world bosses advantages for elyos+ mira/fenris quest chain would be finally irrelevant thanks to the new level cap.
Not enough has changed to return and in fact its worse now that they completely borked server "balance". Every server is faction heavy one way or the other, most are elyos heavy except 1 server.
ok guys, thanks for the input. i think i will wait.

Ignore the haters.
1.9 added a bunch of good stuff, the only downside is that the server balances are messed up at the moment. There's still much more pvp, groups are far easier to find with the LFG tool, you can now buy your stigmas and fluxes from vendors. Server economies are more stable, and the drop rates have been increased considerably.
If you like PvP, I'd recommend coming back, but if you're more of a pve person, wait til the expansion.
Ecnomies have not stabilized. Sure the stigmas and such are available from vendors, but you won't be able to afford any of them, especially not if you want to keep your armor updated (green btw, not even blue or orange).
PvP while leveling consists of twinks really. People come out and help out against twinks usually, however with the way pots work (truly hate that about this game), and runspeed buffs and such it can be quite a feat to bring down a twink.
To be honest I couldn't even tell if the xp was faster, the same desert backgrounds still put me to sleep. The abyss is cool, but only when oyu can fend off the twink gank squads enough to do something. Even then, quests there are limited.
i remember the drop rate was horrible. i was farming for 2000 platinum coins for weapon / armor exchange. but i gave up..

Angel eyes are going for about 20-25k each average on most servers. Plat coins about 10-12k. That hasn't changed much for the last few months so its still about 20 mil worth for the 2k coin items.
The economy depending on server is fairly the same as before, there isn't a huge reduction in prices everyone though so if you thought it was expensive before, you'll still think things are expensive.
Bloods are still expensive because so many people still fail the Miragent/Fen pants proc so they keep buying them. They increased the blood drop rate but NOT the proc rate, lol. Bad RNG game is RNG game. I know on Zikel Bloods cost average of 165k each. Attack +5 stones= 365k- 420k EACH.
So if you are doing Miragent, that means 100 bloods is gonna cost 16.5 million kinah a TRY. Then add your flux prices to that so thats over 17 million kinah. You cannot get that much farming legit in this game reliably, no matter how much they increase the rate.
Depending on your gear AND server, YOU are gonna get farmed while YOU farm your bloods in the Abyss, lol.
If you aren't on a server where your side is dominating (mostly Elyos do), then you aren't getting many bloods. If you are a Elyos on Vaizel, then you got almost NO bloods cause Asmos own Divine, which killed the core for bloods, so they have to farm in DP or Indratu lol. Feel bad for those Elyos.

As i am recently returning player too (i didn't lvl up before so i am starting fresh character), i would be interested if any of veterans could please describe hereinbefore mentioned server unbalances and class unbalances.
So far having "second wind" in Aion. Features of 1.9 look really good to me. Economy somehow "works" (hey, i play EVE as main MMO) which i find a bit rarer in regular MMOs...
Out of the remaining servers:
1. Zikel= Heavily Elyos dominated. Many asmos left to Vaizel during the last server transfers.
2. Siel= Heavily Elyos dominated. Many asmos left to Vaizel during the last server transfers.
3. Israphel= Heavily Elyos dominated. Many asmos left to Vaizel during the last server transfers.
4. Vaizel= Heavily Asmo dominated. This is where all the Asmos landed while a lot of Elyos had transferred out. Asmos own Divine which shut down blood production for the Elyos here unless you are running DP or group grinding Indratu. If you are geared very well as an Elyos, you can solo/duo artifacts for bloods otherwise you won't have a chance.
5. Nezekan= Heavily Elyos dominated. This server is the least competitive of the bunch. From what I've read, the Elyos actually go to Asmodae and farm all their bosses extremely easy without any opposition.

The usual tactic on all servers is the dominating race will capture and hold all the upper forts (inners/outers) and hold them while mass grinding instances for loads of easy AP (officers/governors/generals hang out in here a lot) without dying to PvP, while "allowing" the weaker faction to capture one or two "pity forts" on the lower Abyss level. Usually they'll let them have either Siels East/West or both of these since these two are the most worthless of all forts to geared level 50s.
The thinking behind this is two fold:
a) give the losers some "incentive" as they still can own a fort even though it's not really worth much and
b) by not taking all the forts, they keep the losers from getting the 15-20% PvP buff which REALLY makes a difference.
On occasion a dominating side will allow an upper fort to be captured by the Balaur (not the losers) simply to have an additional place to grind bloods and also to re-take it later.
I'll let someone else speak on class balance as it's not that out of whack anymore since sins got "handled".

I think he plays on EU where the situation is a bit better on some of the servers, having said that the same pattern ensued. Spatalos for example was only slightly unbalanced in Elyos's favor before the free transfers, nowadays it's an Elyos playground.
Kinda sucks that a perfectly good game (IMO) is run by such people here in the West. They could still turn it around, but a lot of the damage isn't going away, and fact remains that it was the biggest !@#$ up NCwest have done since the game's launch, and that's saying something!
Ah well, thank God for Starcraft 2 and some unkown MMO's beta! xD
Yea i am on EU servers.
Nice breakdown for high end PvP. I guess this won't be too much different in EU in compare to US...
Dunno why Aion didn't learn from WAR. 2 faction wars where PvP is such an important aspect of the game are no good.
I for one will try this game out again, having stopped play about 4 or 5 months ago, 2.0 really interests me, and the economy does also, I like to play the market and get steady income from it, a messed up inflated market is usually riskier, harder and at the end of the day more fun for me to play with, I do really like crafting and selling stuff, and I really like the fact that it is a hard and expensive market to get into which reminds me of L2 and how to make money.
I dont mind the grind if there is any either way, mainly because I like to farm for specific stuff when I need it while leveling, instead of the usual go there and kill X mob, and I have to go kill them despite needing something else from somewhere else.
Furthermore this will be a nice side game to play to get my fantasy "fix" while I play EVE and wait for something new to come out.
the aion game its dead for me!, a pvp RNG/gear game never goes far, and NCfail, hits the baby this merges and these free chaotic transfers knock down's the bay AION.
Playing assassins creed 2 and waiting for Gw's 2 and Tera.
The breakdown between the factions is sad. I thought the NPC faction was suppose to stop this from taking place? That if one side became to populated the NPC faction would get stronger and focus on them?
The game mechanics that keep me from returning to Aion is Aether gatthering. I just cringe thinking about sitting on a piece of rock watiing for the node to reload. This is also the best place to see where all the botters come to play.
