I built this rig about a month and a half ago now, everything purchased from NewEgg (including monitor) for ~$1200, and I have to say that I am extremely impressed w/ the performance I am getting. I am able to run everything I own maxed out @ 1920x1080 (that's full 1080p ), I admit that I haven't tried Crysis yet, but it handles Far Cry 2, and Splinter Cell: Conviction w/o a stutter. In the next couple months I'd like to finish the machine off w/ another 4GB of RAM, and maybe a 2nd GPU...I just hope I am able to find another one of my GPU's. ASUS only made a limited number of em as (they claim) they only took the top 15% of their boards to make this version of the 5850, so they are kind of hard to come by. NewEgg doesn't have anymore, and the only place(s) I have been able to find em are small, local retailers it seems.
But honestly, I am very happy w/ the performance of this machine, and the ever important bang-for-buck ratio, so if I can't get another GPU for crossfire, I'd still be happy w/ it.

GTX 275 OC (i use eVGA's percision tuning software you can make adjustments on the fly with it it is really handy. I also noticed using percision taht no matter what game i am playing my BFG GTX 275 fan speed stays at 40% even when temps get in excess of 85c percision has a fan speed slider on it so you can adjust these things on the fly as well its a really handy program.
It's always funny to see MMO players show off their high-end system... And for what..? Not one MMO will use that much power these systems give, and not many stand-alone games will either....
IMO this threat is only a "hey look at my money" thread...

actually mmos can strain even a very high end system.LotRO with max settings dx10 very high resolutions can be very demanding depending on the zone and amount of people on screen.Age of conan is very demanding too with dx10.Esp the new zones.Even WoW on max settings and high res can slow down in certain areas.

On a side note. Most people will decide the speed of a system based on its case. Like if you put a P4 in a $200 case, people would think its a $1500 system.
On MMOs being laggy, they mostly suffer problems from adopting last-gen tech. As we all know MMOs are CPU and Memory intensive. Yet most mmos are on SM2.0 and 32-bit app. This means they are typically restricted to 1 core and 2GB of memory. Considering mmos must cater to lower specs or older tech, the adoption rate into SM5.0 and 64-bit apps will lag behind flagship PC games.
Ok well here goes my setup... I got a new PC from IBuyPower.com and it just got here today I give mad props to their company for the great setup... they also threw in some upgrades I didnt even pay for :DD

I know you paid out the arse for that sweet rig, especially buying from ibuypower, they build some absolutely beautiful systems, but charge an arm and a leg. I wish I could afford a system like that...one day I hope, that said I still wouldn't buy from a builder, as I enjoy building them myself and being able to throw that kind of money at a machine to build myself would be a dream.

I stumbled upon this thread and I was surprised no one even mentioned this.
Transfer rates up to 500-700% faster than your standard 7200 rpm HD's.
If it would take you 5 or more seconds to view all the (say 300 MByte) information after a "portal", with a SSD it would load in mili seconds.
Seamless background loading will even more benifit from the fragmented data to load.
100 GB is quite affordable (400 dollars or less). I just ordered a new system because I couldn't stand the long loading times of SC2 anymore (on my fragmentated HD).

SSD's are hit and miss - a good game will setup scene/zone loading as a sequential file, which minimizes the differences between SSD's and mech HDD's. Me, I'll dfinitely be jumping on the bandwagon, but I'm waiting for Intel's 25nm flash to hit the market first. Then I'll have a VRaptor for a data drive
