While that's great, I can't really remember, but I think WON is a really "low-value" currency, which you get a couple of hundreds of per dollar. Like I said, I might be wrong.

500,000,000 KRW
=
415,848 USD
Ah, still end up being pretty much. I'm sure it doesn't hurt at all.

According to Google's currency converter, 500,000,000 Won is equivalent to about $415,506.50 USD. That's no small amount.
Edit: beat me to it
It's not the first time. This one came from investors: http://mmoculture.blogspot.com/2010/01/tera-gets-multi-million-investment.html Dated: 04 Jan 2010
Quote:
Bluehole Studio, developer for the upcoming MMORPG epic, TERA, has just received a multi-million investment deal from 6 companies, including KNet Investment and Stonebridge Capital. The total amount is about 18 billion Korean Won, which is around 15.6 million US Dollars. Bluehole Studio has commented on the investment, declaring that this amount will be used solely on developing TERA further.
So far, TERA's development costs has reached the 32 billion Korean Won mark, around 27.7 million US Dollars. This investment is rather unique, as Bluehole Studio only has TERA as its maiden game. Still, the investment will no doubt bring a few years of stability to the game.

Hehe nice, I guess it's for the better of us gamers wanting a change in MMOs. Also I was reading some articles the other day over at massively.com and everyone of them has worked on other top-notch games, it seemed like a dream team
Yeah, their Westernization team is the real deal!
"Q: It is very kind of you that you have such good contact with the community, that you listen to suggestions and critiques, but that also raises some doubts. Some ideas seem brilliant on paper, but after they are introduced into the game they can disturb the game balance in an MMO. Aren't you afraid to introduce disparities in a game as a whole during westernization process?
A: We’re very lucky at En Masse to have a great team of industry veterans, including writers like Dave Noonan and Marti McKenna who have extensive game design and writing experience. Our other staff members come from Blizzard, Bungie, BioWare, Xbox Live, and other first-rate game companies, and have worked on a number of major MMOs and other top-selling titles. Opening the Westernization process to input doesn’t necessarily mean that every bit of feedback will be used—it just means we’ll be listening and evaluating, and then adjusting our development process so we’re inline with players' expectations and hopes for the game. Our team has a great deal of experience and will do everything possible to ensure TERA is the best game it can possibly be, without any game-breaking elements. After all, who wants to play a broken game?"

I couldn't care less about who created the code first and who stole it or whatever they do, I just hope this game comes out good.
Now that i realized this game is Korean, i feel like i've been betrayed. Though, i do hope it turns out to be awesome, i won't be expecting much anymore =/.
Oh do please, prove me wrong. ;P
Oh, I think you'll be quite surprised =P
That's right! It wasn't me who was wrong. It was the world!

Another reason to play this game not a reason that draws you away from it. Lineage 3 wouldn't be much different.
The "code" is much better served outside of NCSoft's hands IMO.
At least it didnt ruin anything. Company is still moving forward 6 months later.
yep + dont forget bluehole=old staff from the best company's out there...NCsoft l1-l2(crapy game aion)blizzard (do i need to mention them^^)Bioware (in couple of years they became one of the best companies makin solo rpg's..rpg's like star wars kinght of the old republics-jade empire-mass effect 1-2 - dragon age) EA (the most rich video game company of all times + if tera need to be know in the world via publish EA know how to do it) ArenaNet (We all know them for GW1 soon GW2) So with all these guyz workin together believe me TERA is the mmo that will crush everything on there way with ease^^
true..brian knew when to flee from ncsoft when h saw aion fail
