So, in the past I have heard of this game. When I say heard, I mean I HEARD it's title and nothing else really. Ever. I had no clue what it was about, or anything, just that it was a game called APB... which I didn't even know the full name untill looking at the website he he.

Well, upon reading about it, the good aspects of it made me greatly interested in it. I am no good at first person shooters at all, but some of them have proven to be quite fun, despite me being terrible. This one seems to me to possibly be one of the ones I think I might like.

After looking into it, I got worried because so many people, AFTER release, are spelling DOOM. Things cited though got me very curious...

1. People complaining about price, that they are grabbing money etc... $49.99 for the game (Standard from every MMO I have ever purchased even remotely near release). And then I heard about the pricing model... paying for hours?! WTF... That really turned me off; until I actually took time to read. "400 Points gets you unlimited access for 30 days." 400pts at $9.99... which would mean besides F2P, this would be the cheapest MMO I've ever looked into monthly. And even then, when buying the game "unlimited free access to the Social District" but does that mean I can log in there even without "time"  left for the other areas?  Source: http://store.apb.com/store/realtime/en_US/html/pbPage.landing_enUS?resid=1QGDaAoBAlYAAGGa6z4AAAAw&rests=1282149738436

2. Matchmaking is bad. I've read mixed things about this. Some saying no levels others talking about rank (levels?) and others talking about vastly unfair advantages. So, I am confused on the whole thing entirely. When it comes to FPS, I prefer a character that has EXTREMELY limited advancement other than items used (why yes, you with the rocket launcher and body armor should have an advantage over me in a g-string weilding a potato peeler).

3. Driving supposedly blows. One review stated it was like an elephant on ice. Which I'd link but I don't know where the heck that review is right now. could someone expand on this? I mean, I personally don't think that the cars in such a game should handle like hot rod racer games... but then again, I don't think you should need a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering to drive either. The most specific detail I heard was that handling was poor, but what is poor about the handling specifically. Perhaps actual examples?

4. Specific guns are almost "win" buttons. This, I couldn't care less about. Honestly, a large majority of real guns are not "balanced". The best you can do with guns is adjust shot angle and distance. By nature, some guns are simply better in every concievable way than others. I suppose the weight of a gun could be used to help "balance", but as I said, I chalk it up to reality.

5. Exploits have ruined the game. What sort of exploits are people talking about?  (Please no full details lol) I am curious. Certain one's I can let pass by, others, such as becoming invincible, especially in PvP, I cannot.

6. Lack of a cover option. So we can't easily take cover behind something like most modern day shooters allow you to. Thats fine by me. I am a little old when it comes to FPS, and I never really cared about "easy" cover, as I think it says more about player skill finding it yourself rather than "oo look I press A and I am safe!".

Anyway, I'd love to hear some feedback. Currently, the only thing holding me off is the initial $50 to buy the game, as I am in the middle of paying for this coming school semester. If the price was say $30 right now, I'd do it in a heart beat and give her a go.

OHHH and most importantly... fun factor. Mechanics, design, customization, etc aside, do you simply enjoy the game?

It isn't vastly unfair however still unfair, nevertheless they fixed it upcoming 1.4.1 patch

Driving is good, much different than other games but you can get the hang of it with 1 hr driving.

This has been fixed with latest patch

Aimbotting + wall hacking. And when wall hacking I don't mean the kind when you shoot through walls. In apb aimbotters can see where every other player are, and APB is a very tactical game so it is pretty much instant win for them. In my opinion Hacking in APB is extremely rampant even more hacking exists here than in MW 2. And also add the fact that there is no cheat preventing software in APB, it sucks to be not using an aimbot.

Cover option would make this game much less enjoyable, RTW did the right decision without adding a Gears of War cover mechanic.

I don't enjoy the game just because of aimbotters. Anyway RTW is nearly bankrupt, if you got 50 dollars for a months entertainment maybe you should buy this game. But really I can't recommend it.

Sylian speaks the truth about the game, it's quite fun (especially with friends), but some things ruin it. Mainly the aim botters/hackers, matchmaking has been unfair but they are fixing that in an upcoming patch, overpowered guns have already been nerfed so they're not as bad anymore. Although unless they fix the hacker problem, I don't see the game lasting too long.

About the payment options, you can sell in game items/currency for RTW points, which is the points used to buy subscriptions and it's quite easy imo to earn enough to pay for the game, so basically you have a game that's free besides the box cost. I earned enough RTW points during the 50 hours that is given with the game to pay for close to 3 months worth of unlimited gametime.

Played: AC, AC2, RO, Shadowbane, L2, WoW, EVE, GW, (Plus a crapload of free MMOs and yes I realize GW is a free one but it deserves a place with the paid ones :P)

Now's not a good time to get involved with this title anyway.  The company, RTW, appears to be in the process of going bankrupt.

You can log into social districts even if you have no time left.  You can also play for free through in-game cash, provided you sell enough items or cash to make enough RTW points.  It's really your choice if you'd rather pay $0 or $9.99 a month.

    2. Matchmaking is bad. I've read mixed things about this. Some saying no levels others talking about rank (levels?) and others talking about vastly unfair advantages. Matchmaking is constantly being worked on.  Skill reigns supreme in this game and if you're superior in skill, you will still be able to hang with the big dogs, at least most of the time.  You can also catch people off-gaurd.

    3. Driving supposedly blows. One review stated it was like an elephant on ice. Which I'd link but I don't know where the heck that review is right now. could someone expand on this? Driving is fine.  Just like any other game with cars, you have to practice to become good.

    4. Specific guns are almost "win" buttons. This, I couldn't care less about. Honestly, a large majority of real guns are not "balanced". The best you can do with guns is adjust shot angle and distance. By nature, some guns are simply better in every concievable way than others. Most recent patch has made dramatic balance changes to the OP guns.  This is something that can be fixed.

    5. Exploits have ruined the game. What sort of exploits are people talking about?  (Please no full details lol) I am curious. Certain one's I can let pass by, others, such as becoming invincible, especially in PvP, I cannot.

There is no such thing.  There are hacks in every game but I haven't seen a single one.

There are plenty of things in the game to hide behind.  Duck often and you do have the ability to lean.  Most single player games don't have a real cover system, why is it so bad that this MMO doesn't?

Anyway, I'd love to hear some feedback. Currently, the only thing holding me off is the initial $50 to buy the game, as I am in the middle of paying for this coming school semester. If the price was say $30 right now, I'd do it in a heart beat and give her a go.

The game is fun for what it is.  When people start comparing it to single player games, that's when people get mad.  Understand its a game of skill and there is always someone who will be better than you.  You are going to die.  You are going to die a lot.  Run in groups if you can.  Enjoy it for what it is and if you encounter something you don't like, post it on the forums as the development team has done a great job so far of paying attention to the player.  Good luck

Im just gona give you an advice that will save you money.

Unless you have cash to blow on a game that most likely will annoy you and aren't gona regret buying it, then your welcome to give this a go. Let me say that this is a sad attempt to incorporate GTA into an Online subscription model. Whats more shocking is the game doesn't even come close to be as entertaining as San Andreas or any titles of that genre. In short when you buy this, your buying a cheap and distrubing clone of GTA, minus the awesome single player or its better then this multiplayer.

Don't come complaining later if you hate this game because no one gave you a heads up>:)

I would not buy it for one reason right now Real Time Worlds is going threw finacial issues, and could end up bancrupt. not saying this WILL happen but there are articles on it around the web atm.

This game was really fun for the first week or so.  After that it became unplayable imo.  I don't mind losing in pvp, in fact that is why I play pvp.  I like the challenge.  However I hate this game because at least half of the missions I have absolutely no chance to win - skills or no.  Either I'm matched up with an AFKer or playing against aimboters with nl9's.  It is no fun to end up having to just turn in cars while on mission because someone has the checkpoint covered with thier aimbot.

I resubed Champions online the other day to hold me over until a good mmo comes out, that is how bad this game is.

  • BodysnatcherBodysnatcher Member Posts: 141

Hacks and AFKers ruined this game.  Afkers and car farmers run rampant on Crim side and Enf got exploiters that rack up cash right and left.

This game is FUN. No doubt about it. It does get old but they could have  made this a great game by releasing with more Districts and Different rule sets per district. Chaos mode. Skill Mode. Zombieland Mode. Etc. (these are all things talked about when game was in development by people on the forums at least if nto the Devs)

Any one who tells you there are no hackers is probably a hacker. There WAS 3 main hacking sites with thousands of posts in the forums. Even if every one was making 2-3 posts per person who used the site it is still alot of people. Most people do not use forums.

You can see videos of the hacks on most of these sites. I do not hack nor have a been to these sites but am listing things posted on the RTW forums but then go deleted. With screenshot proof.

People talk about what hacks they use in team chat and also laugh at you while they farm cars and you die for lack of team mates. You can not leave a mission once opposed. The afkers accept mission and then call for back up. You are stuck in the group. I have taken to killing my afker or car farming teammates.

    no GMs in game.

Having said that...if you can play this game for a few dollars from a site sellng overstock or something i highly recomend you do. As Was stated before this game is alot of fun for awhile.

Don't bother buying APB at this point, RTW is bankrupt and unless they find an investor to buy them in the next month or so, APB will be shut down. Don't get stuck with a $50 coaster like the rest of us who bought it.

    1) Price is standard for any game.  So it's up to you.

    2) Matchmaking isn't bad, it's HORRIBLE.  They're supposedly addressing it in the next patch, however, if/when that will come out is another issue.   If you think going up against someone who has roughly a 40%+ advantage over you is fun, then you may not take issues with matchmaking.  If you enjoy fair fights, you will HATE matchmaking in it's current form.  I have killed people with full upgrades, however, it can take 3 clips+ to do this with an unmodded gun, which is 40% of my total ammo to kill one person once.  (Whereas certain guns take 2-4 hits to kill you, this just demonstrates that using cat & mouse tactics can be useful and you can kill these people, it just takes FOREVER)...

    3) Driving is another issue that is being addressed in 1.41.  Currently, it has issues, it just takes some getting used to.  The physics are sketchy at times - driving 5mph into the sides of certain vehicles while driving a certain vehicle can make you or them flip.

    4)  Specific guns are almost "win" buttons.  This goes back to matchmaking and that 40% advantage.  If your opponent can take 22% more damage than you and dish out damage 20% faster, this isn't a fight, it's shooting fish in a barrel.  N-Tecs (ak-47 roughly) have good range, good accuracy, good everything.   Less than Lethal weapons can be win buttons if you have jesus aim (2-3 shot stuns)....

    5)  Exploits have ruined the game.  Eh... I don't know about exploits so much as hackers.  The only exploits I know of involve shooting some barrels for a friend to prevent the opposing team from being able to access a roof... and I haven't seen that exploit abused in some time.

    6) Lack of a cover option.  Huh?  There's always cover, the only problem I have with cover is that my crosshairs will be on my target, but when I shoot, the bullets hit my cover.

I would NOT purchase this game currently.  See what happens with RTW, wait a few months, wait to see how 1.41 is received by the community.   I have 3 months of play time available (selling APB$ for sub points) and I'm currently unsubscribed because of the crappy state of the game as it is now.  The current state of the game is much like WSG with no level brackets - as a level 1 you can go up against a team of 80s, which is just freaking ridiculous.

  • DanaDarkDanaDark Member Posts: 125

I suppose I will go ahead and wait on this title. I am not currently made of money, and $50 initially for a game that seems to have some issues that need addressing make me much less inclined to pay up.

Hacking/Exploiting seems to be a major issue. I am already a terrible FPS player (and would expect to already die a lot on a fair match anyway) but wouldn't stand a chance against hacks/exploits/unfair matches. I don't mind dyying a lot in a FPS or in PvP, as long as its fun and I actually have a remote chance he he.

Anyway, thanks guys, I really hope the game improves some so that other people like myself  (on the fence) wiill be far more inclined to give it a go!

APB was the second "mmo" that made me want to get a laptop on my holidays, first was LOTRO wich is going f2p soon so i can comeback with my old account :B

APB, isn't about if it's a good mmorpg, because it isn't you do alot of same shitty mission burn this, collect this, bla bla bla, but when in one of those mission's you/someon get's dispatched against you it's the most fun, ofcourse the costumitazion it's awsome, any logo, design you do you can apply it in clothes, make it a tatoo, car vinyl... oh and something that many people don't know is that you can't only paint, draw vinyls on your car you can tunned too, spoilers.. etc etc

Other awsome feature is that you can listen to you own library music while in a car... infinite weapons upgrades... really much to give, but 50hours it isn't enough for everyone to explore the game... tbh im just waiting for 2 private servers to open i managed some more hours selling a car for rtw points on AH but... that's not gonna hold me...

Yes you should try it out... must fun evah...

APB is a great game and I do hope they get somehting going. I would not buy untill they get some sort of investor unless you have cash and/or want to support the game to keep it alive. The upcoming patch fixes most problems major and minor issues: driving, weapons, matchmaking, and adding the new much needed on/off duty option.

How is this a good game? Some wacked GTA mmo seems pointless activity. Maybe it would be fun to have real crime organizations, some that try to rob banks or casinos, others that sell drugs and smuggle them into the country. Then I can see playing a cop would have a sense of justice by trying to put a stop to these crimes.

All I saw is a bunch of pointless fighting just because they claim to play a role that really doesn't exist.

APB failed to stand on these 3 letters, MMO. Without RPG, no problem with me. I never cared about the story and stuff like that.

Anyway MMO as it claimed to be, its not suppose to be about match making system. Waiting to get a call and get involve into a 4 vs 4, that was lame at best since you have 80 players in your city. So something is wrong. I play Lost Saga currently. I often play Death match with 8 players or Team 4 vs 4. Basically, Lost saga follow the same concept as APB, but its free. LS also got a social district. Is Lost Saga an MMO? No. Its simply an action game with rpg feature. APB tried to represent itself as an mmo, but the fact is, its nothing else then a Free action game where you are suppose to buy some items in game with real money.

Patch 1.4.1 will fix most problems the game have today. Still it might have people that use hacks/bot and so on. But I play on EU servers and I have not seen any cheaters yet.

I think people are a bit fast calling other cheaters. If you go against players with Rank 300 that have all the best upgrades on the character and weapons, you will get problems if you are low Rank. Nothing wrong with that. It's like any other game.

And some people are better then you, it's that simple. Sometimes I kill a high Rank and the next time he kill me. Luck and bad luck.

If you are new to the game, try find good people to team up with. That will make the game more fun and your Rank will go up very fast.

Crims can make money faster and Enfs can after some Ranks use Stun weapons and by that you will Win more missions. Other then that they are close to be same type.

And if you buy the game. Do not look for a MMORPG. It's not. Think more like GTA online. ^^
