there is no PVP. you will never fight another player character. turbine basically said "it wouldnt fit the lore"
The only thing you can participate in is some crappy PVM thing that is really lame and unbalanced. Its crap, and i didnt like it at all when i gave it a try. Its basically 1-2 or 1-3 players playing as monsters, getting streamrolled by 10-15 players.so yes its basically a crappy PVM game.

Thats the biggest load of crap I ever heard from any game Dev. A game based off the Lord of the Rings does not fit in PvP lore lol, If anything LotR is just that..
Lotro would of been a top contender if they would of added PvP with Evil as one of the payable faction, the PvE is great in Lotro, If we have learned anything from LotRO is that no matter how great the IP and game, It will never be a top contender without PvP, bottom line people play online games to PvP first and formost ,if people wanted pure pve just play some console Rpgs, hell even console games now days add full online support with PvP because Its that important.
There is no way around it, a MMO will Fail to peak if there is no PvP.

Agreed 100%. An RvR with evil Sauron servant toons on the other side that actually develop would make LOTRO No1 mmo in a jiffy!

FRACK!! This argument again. We can discuss the benefit or detraction of Turbine adding an evil playable faction to the game until the cows come home. Its never going to happen.
This has been explained ad nauseum since LOTRO was still in beta so I apologise if I get a little testy about hearing it again.
The Tolkien Estate, his children and grandson, own the rights to the Tolkien Universe. They make the final decision on how Turbine can interpret the world of Middle Earth. Tolkien was a rather straight-laced fellow. Players being able to play an evil character in LOTRO does not fit with their Father's vision of his fantasy works, in other words it goes against the lore, so does not meet with their approval, and never will. End of story.
Sadly that means LOTRO is going to stay a niche game, I feel that is its greatest charm but I understand others feel differently.
If Turbine wanted the freedom to create a game entirely by their rules, they should not have licensed a Intellectual property with so many restrictions.
If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, riddle 'em with bullets
What I also find strange Is Turbine made 2 MMOs with out having real PvP an both failed to Peak, Both with a solid IP.
I'll tell you this, the person in charge over at Turbine is not the same person that was in charge when they made Ahseron's Call 1, I find It hard to beleve that this is the same company that made one of the BEST PVP games of all time, AC1 Darktide server.
Turbine needs to fire that jackass that took over and rehire the dude that was in charge during Turbines Asheron's Call1 project.
1. LotrO have PvP (probably better than most MMOs)
2. WoW style PvP does not fit with the lore. Maybe its time to read the books again if you diagree.
3. PvMP is not fair, balanced or competitive and thats why some people hate it. It feels more like an actual war instead of a competition like in other mmos. Thats what PvP should be like imo.
4. Turbine should give more love to pvmp hand hopefully they will soon.
If WoW = The Beatles and WAR = Led Zeppelin Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
an mmo doesnt need to have pvp to be good. in fact, i think lotro will always be better off without pvp, because lotro is originally a book which i consider the basis for lots of fantasy mmos and maybe even the popular rpg genre in itself.
which is, basically, about lore, because lotro is originally a book.
pvp creates its own lore, which would destroy the original lore, which was the reason the book got so immensely popular. so i hope lotro is considering this as i still have to start playing

Thats the biggest load of crap I ever heard from any game Dev. A game based off the Lord of the Rings does not fit in PvP lore lol, If anything LotR is just that..
That's a horrible (and circular) argument. You could pretty much argue adding in anything by saying "of course this fits in the lore, the game is named from the lore, therefore everything can fit." You either don't know what lore is, or what the point of the original statement was, or... pretty much what Papadam said (in correct english too :P).
Anyway, PVP's pretty unique (but small and limited) in Lotro, and gives you a chance to roll a monster, level/rank him, and adventure (fight other players, free peoples side, or NPCs) in little capture the fort type missions, etc. It's one map (but it's a fairly large map) set into the game world, and the biggest problem is balance (since both sides have entirely different ways of leveling, different skills, hit points, etc. it's an even bigger challenge to balance, and keep both sides unique, than most games' pvp would be). It's fun, but most people group up in large groups to run around, which is not so much fun if you want to just go out there and solo (die a lot).
PvP in LoTRO is not balanced well. It is boils down to this: They who complain the loudest gets the upgraded skills, and so the other side loses out. Usually it is the Freeps, Free Peoples (elves, dwarves, man, and hobbits), who lose out because the devs need to draw in more of a crowd on the creep side, and because creep-side cries the loudest. Many creeps only do Moors, so then they dont have an alternate outlet for gaming fun, they just have pvp. So they whine like babies the loudest. The Freep-side don't compain as hard because they know they can go back to pve and raiding and have fun doing that. But, if youre creep-side, and the devs wont listen to you, it is constant frustration so you have no choice but to cry like babies to get the skill upgrades so you can become over powered. The PvP here in lotro is an epic failure.
The developers want to make the system work, so they made changes to draw more of the monster crowd in. It wasn't enough that you could create a Monster Character and be OP within a day or two. They little babies wanted more. Now they have Spiders that can summon pet spiders, and some can summon wargs. You have wargs that were already extremely tough now are exactly like stun-lock rogues in WoW. Against wargs, there is little chance to win against since they will interrupt your skills CONSTANTLY and Stun you for half the fight. Also, the poisons and diseases from Defilers is worse than the WoW insta-dot Warlocks. I dont know much about the other classes, but these three are the worst. This entire situation does not sit well with me because after 30 seconds of character creation, youre out in PvP overpowering players that spent weeks or months leveling their Free People characters. Here, in lotro, you get an instant freep killing machine that doesnt need to level. And you can do it all in less time than it takes to pour yourself a cup of coffee.
On the flip side though, the people who spend weeks or months leveling their characters (in my case, a year or more) have more skill and knowledge of their class than someone who makes a monster character. It makes sense though. If you grind your toon to 65, you should be intimately familiar with that class. And it is this skill and knowledge that the player brings to the moors, of course they are going to be able to beat down someone who spent 30 seconds making their monster character. But, this was not good enough for those who cried on the creep-side. Many creeps gave up on doing PvP, so the devs HAD to change something.
So the developers made the decision to totally and completely over buff all of the monster classes. So now, it is nearly impossible to go 1v1 on any creep. Want proof??? I rolled a Defiler and was in pvp zone for about 30 minutes when a burglar attacke me. I managed to wiggle free with my crowd control skill. And even though the burg spent weeks getting his toon to 65, and had me dead-to-rights from a backstab, my Defiler was able to escape and nearly kill the burglar. And I spent maybe 30 seconds in character creation (thinking up a name), and was in game for 30 minutes.
Yeah, this game is way out of balance when it comes to PvP. The devs have given the whining, crying creep-side way to many buffs and upgrades. Now, the game and the pvmp isnt even worth my time. I'm sorry I even invested my time with Turbine and Lotro
SWTOR is WoW copy and pasted, but with different images.
The Freep-side don't compain as hard because they know they can go back to pve and raiding and have fun doing that.
This game was made for PvE until now. So freeps don't have complaints about buffs etc. Sounds like you're having a whole rant against yourself lol, because if you quit the game over PvP then you chose the wrong game. PvP balance is a minor problem for LOTRO, just as community is a minor problem for WoW. Right back at ya mate :P.
Ok. well I guess a long detailed post may have confused some people. I should keep it more simple then, but I did not want to sound like a child crying about how wargs in lotro are nearly unbeatable with their interrupts and stuns. Is this the price I pay for writing a more articulate post? Apparently so. I do not believe I was complaining about myself. I was only expressing grief about trusting a few idiot developers who only care about giving buffs and upgrades to the little crying whiners on the monster-side of pvp.
So, here is a more simplified version:
PvP in Lotro is broken. It is broken because the monster-players whine the loudest in that game because they dont pve, and they dont raid much. So, now that we've established that these players use only a small fraction of the game, their focus is ONLY on the Ettenmoors (pvp zone). Because this is all they do, they are highly frustrated, and the more frustrated a child gets the louder he or she cries about what he or she wants. You see...the developers felt the need to bring more players to the monster/creep-side to bolster the use of their pvp zone, because before it was failing. However, the developers went wayyyy overboard on buffing them. Instead of increasing the dps, heals, armor and the rest in small percentages to find the right balance, they decided to give them more special skills, stronger skills like vanishing while you have dots, stronger poisons that kill in 10 seconds, and more. They gave wargs another stun to use. They gave spiders the ability to summon more spiders and even wargs (pet). But because I do not exclusively play creep-side, I can only tell you what I know. ANd I know there is more bonuses for each monster class.
They gave little to no bonuses to the Free People of Middle Earth, the enemy of the monsters. So now, if you dont wear heavy armor, youre screwed more than guardians and captains. If your skills require casting time, youre screwed. Where free peoples casting is quite long, the enemy has very short to no casting time.
I hope I made things a bit more clear. PvP here is broken because devs went overboard on giving whining creeps exactly what they wanted. And because of that, the PvP is way out of balance and NOT FUN.

It would be good to try find some developer's chat and dare to go into discussion with them :P. Maybe developers were thinking PvP from a PvE perspective. Maybe there's a big link missing between the players and developers because it seems so obvious that an imbalance is going to make things worse..In PvE you experience a story, and that story can be more easily accompanied by developer's perspectives. PvP however is based on player-player interaction. In other words, if PvE developers work out the PvP aspect, or if a PvE focused manager sets out the boundaries and scope to reach, then a developer will never be able to balance PvP.
Anyways lots of possible reasons we'll probably never find out :P. Just never mind mate .
p.s. i havent played LOTRO yet but I played WoW from 60 cap, and in my blue gear on my gnome mage i pretty much 2-shotted everything in battlegrounds...lol. i got owned as well with other chars but i know it works both ways .
I love this game, it's one my favorites of all time, right along with UO.
That being said, anyone who defends the "PvP" that LotRO has is doing so blindly, and just for the sake of defending the game. Stop being fanboi's and accept that PvP just isn't a true part of this game.
Additionally, it doesn't have to be either.
Also for those of you speaking about an evil playable faction fitting into the lore...sure there were evil humans and other creatures that -could- be playable races, but this IP, unlike say a Warhammer, was NEVER meant for the evil side to have any fans, Tolkien didn't want readers running around wishing they could be Orcs, or an evil wizard! To put in place an evil faction, and allow it to be played and developed along side the "good" faction would fly in the face of everything great about this IP and Turbine would be doing it a great diservice if they did so.

QFT.
Tolkein was actually a devout Roman Catholic, and when he was revising his first draft of the Lord of the Rings began to think of it as a (not particularly overt) Christian allegory.
You can read the books, or play the game, without ever thinking of that. But it was definitely Tolkein's intention, and I'm sure the estate is guided by these wishes in how the IP is presented.
I love this game for the PvE (lifetime sub) and I have to agree with most of you that PvMP sucks. The creeps basically use hit and run guerilla tactics and render my Warden (which i've grinded to perfect traits and near perfect LWs) utterly useless. Even my best tactic of using careful step (stealth) + ambush doesn't even work all the time because as a creep, you can get this nice passive trait that makes you immune to all stuns... I'm hoping that once the game expands into Mordor, that will be another PvMP zone and the PvMP system will be much more balanced.

To put in place an evil faction, and allow it to be played and developed along side the "good" faction would fly in the face of everything great about this IP and Turbine would be doing it a great diservice if they did so.
that actually gave me a nice idea for the suggestion forum
