Oh, ok, I see random. I suppose that makes sense. Although I still have a gut reaction against it as no one has ever played well with Herbert's toys.
Least of all his son. So if your pre-Atreides idea is in any way related to the Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson embarassments then I retract any prior understanding.
GamerFace.com "GamerFace caught up with Blizz developers recently to discuss plans for its upcoming expansion: 'Juvenilism', currently in early development stage. "We're pretty excited about it. We'll be introducing a new class, the Sanguinist. One of his primary abilities will be an aura we've never had before on any of our existing classes - 'Sparkle'. When the Sanguinist casts this aura, he will be surrounded by thousands of sparkling diamond-refractive prisms. What makes this so unique is that it has two completely different effects depending on at whom it's being directed. If the customer being attacked is over the age of 18, it will reach through their monitor and repulse them, causing them to momentarily be distracted by disgust. But if the customer being attacked is under the age of 18 it will draw them in and completely mesmerize them. That's something that's never been done before, so you can see how excited we are about this next-gen technology. "
Haha, just kidding. We were talking about Blizzard putting Twilight-esque Werewolves and Vampires in their next expansion in another thread. But I am actually waiting to hear what they are doing next, mostly because it's going to be sci-fi and I am kind of burned out on High Fantasy at the moment.
Eve has abandoned the sandbox model and will revamp the Eve universe with a themepark, level based game play!! Starbases with quests available will have large yellow question marks over them. Oh and PvP is consentual only!! Hurray!!
:-P
Actually i can see this happening myself. April 1st
Actually my bit of news would be either the final release date for incarna [an EvE expansion], or the release date for World of Darkness.
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
For me more information on World of Darkness and Secret World hold a special place in the back dark corners or my heart. I hope to a very large amount they end up being what those of us that would love a solid horror/intrigue MMO to produce. I'm gonna have to just sit on my hands until then however ... hoping.
That the whining and moaning and bitching over every little details of every damned MMO in existence should cease indefinitely and everyone learns to accept that we all have our own personal preferences in the styles we enjoy and for how they are designed and enjoy them as such...
Back to old school, and be very hard, level slow, but with a different world.
/giggle sorry couldn't help myself
For me the news that Lord British is heading a team to make UO 2, a modern version of the classic pre Trammel UO game would be the news i'd be most happy about, that or DAoC 2.
More likely though, i'd just like some news about WoD to be released some time this century.

Tommorow you log onto mmorpg.com and there is an announcement. It's the best possible news - something you had feared to even hope would happen. A dream come true.
What is it?
The terms WoW clone and WoW Killer have been removed from the MMO lexicon.
"EA and other publisher giants hand out mega-millions and technical support to indie teams in order to create a AAA game without expectations or restrictions".
Mmmmm, the innovation of an indie team with big-wig money backing them makes my creamy center leak out my seams.

~One can dream can't they~
That all WoW clone lovers like this guy, who can't stand to hear other opinions, would go blind and deaf so that they would never have to hear or read differing opinions again, and can be forever happy in their own little world devoid of other opinions.
Assume much? Krymson is the farthest thing from a WoW lover. You fail my friend. You fail hard.
The irony is that Khyrmson's point was basically aimed at that guy.

A sandbox (and by sandbox I mean an actual free-to-do as you like all things are viable thing, with a strong, enforced RP community, not in the sense of "you train skillz lol by doing dem dis are sandbux") in a world with zeppelin-like airships and superb ground combat, all bundled with WoW-like responsiveness and polish, with a nice customisable UI that is fine on default but with superb lua support.
I can dream, I suppose.
RIFT was a *crushing* disappointment; a shallow, loveless, generic MMO the likes of which hasn't been seen in a P2P format since, well, forever.

Well, see guys, that's a bunch of bullsheet. If there are complaints aimed at WoW's game style, and this guy doesn't want to hear it, and is offended by it enough to make that comment, then that means one thing. He really likes the WoW style game. That doesn't mean it has to be WoW, just another clone.
And sure enough, a look at Khrymson's posts, and he spends a lot of time on the FFXIV boards. Another level grind game in the same mold as WoW.
By the way, Khrymson, damn good name (Seriously)! Why aren't you on board with me? heh
Don't tell me you wouldn't like a deeper game that gets more into the world and what happens, rather than levelling through a game and limiting players accordingly.

You're kidding right? FFXI was the deepest MMO I've ever played and I fully expect FFXIV to be just as deep. Level grind or skill grind doesn't make a deeper game. Amount of content and depth of that content, i.e. more to crafting then just clicking a button and combining 2 ingredients, are what make deeper games.

No, that's not what makes games deeper. That's just game mechanics that lead to nowhere for true depth in the game world. You are still limited according to vast level gaps. You are still herded by those level gaps. There is no social depth because of those level gaps. It's just another EQ clone/WoW clone DIKU style game with a differently painted style.
Game developers unite and realize that they need to deliver a great game instead of just a bunch of hype. Accordingly, pre-order sales and open beta's will no longer be available. Ever.

I wish the pressure of making short term 3 month hyped up mmos or wow clones would go away.
What players expect in AAA mmos are lots of working original sandbox content from launch imo.

1,e+221. Guy below me gets the point.
You gotta love how some people's version of good news involves the equivalent of getting to watch a trainwreck.
Really healthy outlook guys... says a lot about how people don't want a good game to come out, as much as see the makers of bad ones suffer.
