The second blue box thinger there is complete BS. I played for about 5 hours and my fatigue was only affecting me at a rate of 10% and I was in the orange stage of the system. 50% takes a long as hell time to get to, and all you have to do is complete a behest for the fatigue to go away completely.
Article starts out with facts, then spews nonsense.
haha so you pay a montly fee to play this game but you can only effectively play it for 1 hour a day and then you get penalized for playing? I never played FFXI but it always sounded like a pretty time consuming and hardcore game that many enjoyed. This new FF sounds like a huge slap in their face. I was sorta thinking of checking it out with the upcoming OB but I might just stay away. I'm not looking for an overly time consuming game but I don't want a dumbed down "casual friendly" game either. I don't mind if others blow me away in leveling/crafting etc. while I'm not logged on.

How does it work anyways? Does fatigue build based on mob kills, quests completed, or time logged into the game?
That sounds a lot more reasonable to me. I still find the concept silly but that seems a lot more believeable.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
I do not believe this will be anywhere near as bad as it sounds. I think we are miss understanding something or it will working differently than how it sounds. for example we can switch classes and stuff and craft ect and I dunno I just think we aren't getting it right. In fact anyone who thinks this is how it'll be is just wrong imo. I'll still buy and play and judge for myself what it's really like.
When I read the title I was hoping for something like, you can only run so much then you have to walk your character...That would actually interest me, but this doesn't. This means I won't go near the game with a 10 ft. pole.
i would certainly like to know more about how this works and why it is even there
i'm the furthest thing from a power leveler - more of a explorer and crafter - but i certainly don't want some artificial penalty (no matter how small) should i focus a little longer than i'm ALLOWED in one particular arena
my personal pendulum had swung from skeptical to a hard buy over the last month or so but i'm afraid a major swing back is imminent
Wow, that has to be the epitome of bad game design. Punishing players who like one particular class in a game that's ALREADY grindy and slow-paced is just sadistic. Why, FFXIV, why? Why do you have to be so bad?
I'm all for a system that prohibits hardcore grinding xp. However, 1 hour a day isn't the best solution imo. If they want to limit xp over time they should at least limit it to xp/month. That way you get the same limit but you dont have to log on every day just so you don't miss that hour, instead you could play a couple of more hours on the weekend for example and still be within the limit.
The better choice would be EVE's leveling system - same for all, if I understand EVE's system correctly.
In any good mmo there should of course be plenty of other things to do besides getting xp, like gathering, crafting, questing (for rewards other than xp), sociolizing, pvp etc.
Done correctly, this should be more than enough to occupy players that spend quite some time ingame.
Perhaps not the really hardcore players that basicly live ingame, but then again, that's a small minority and shouldn't be the focus for the game design.

I think that article was porrly translated.... it take more then an hour before it takes effect... some have said about 4 hours before they have seen it.... and that was only 10% Also you don't get it before Class level 14.
Its probably one of the most stupid features (including rest xp) I've ever seen in a game. SE wants me to pay 10 $ a month + 50 $ for the game + dictating me how I have to play? Thats so idiotic its not even funny.
I absolutely HATE HATE HATE creating one twink after another, for me thats stupid. Rushing to the max, doing endgame and THEN starting the other stuff (preferable crafting) is my personal way to go. Usually I'm not bitching about about a feature like so many carebears do but this fatigue system is just just braindead and yes it will cost SE big time.
How about trying the opposite? REWARDING people for spending quite some time in your game bay introducing playing xp, 4 hours of playing one class is giving you + 10 % xp so its 2,5 an hour. Way better!
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."

LMAO it hink people need to chill it hink theres ahuge misunderstandign some where if not Se is in for a rude awakening with no subs.
Im sure its going to changed theres to much of a upraor about it
How many of the people posting in anger about "only having 1 hour to play before penalty" (which I highly doubt is what it will actually end up being) are the ones that, by choice, logged into WoW, ran vault to get their free epics, logged out 30min later and logged back the next day to A) brag about their awesome gear they "earned" and do the same thing all over again?
Just curious. I think half of the people posting would be less angry if they at least had the choice to grind for hours, even if they didnt actually do just that. Tell me I cant do something, I'll most likely do it just to spite you. Leave it alone; I'll probably just do whatever else. The ideas being posted, while fake for the most part, do suck. It would be terrible if the game were actually like that, but it wont be. I wish there was a way of keeping track of how many people are jumping ship already, only to find out they were wrong to cancel their preorder and play right away.
Ok, so the OP posted the article thats causing all the stir on this issue. Noone from in BETA has substantiated any of this (most have refuted it as having no effect actually), and from what I can tell nobody has translated the actual interview thats in the article. I find it humorous that the OP intentionally removed that lil link in his post in hopes nobody would catch the fact that his quotes were not in fact from SE, but from the article posted by some hack author on a web site people go to to look at scantily clad anime women. So keep all that in mind when you base your own assumptions on this issue based completely on this authors comments, on an interview nobody has read, in an opinion column on an anime web site nobody goes to while mommy is in the room with them.
Oh and if anyone can, please do translate the actual interview, and maybe even locate these 'previous comments' we do not know about.
"Square Enix acknowledge the existence of the system in an interview and in previous comments, but are strangely reticent about providing specifics:"
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
The details arent that relevent IMO. Point is if you want to play 1 class you WILL get less XP one way or another after X amount of time. Whether thats 25% less, 50% less whatever its a lame mechanic. They are trying to force people to play multiple classes to slow things down because its very likely end game content is nowhere near complete. Of course if SE was good at communicating we would of already been given a better explanation of this but they arent so *shrugs*
This is a system designed to discourage people from playing the game... Seems like it's working.
Important facts: 1. Free to Play games are poorly made. 2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals. 3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE. 4. Community is more important than you think.
fatigure actually is good system to anyone who want to see FFXIV successful. whoever play 16 hour/ day will leave the game as soon as they get max level. after they left, they will sell their account, they will post nagtive poster anyplace to against FFXIV. It is clear that FFXIV has not got enough time to develop too many content. They just barely make the world up. it takes time to get develop team develop more content. so in the begining they would use this way to keep player enjoying the gaming but wont level up too fast and leave too fast. Same to the AH. they want to people use more time on trading instead of grinding. the purpose of these two feature are the same. keep players subscribe the game. if I was them, I will do the same thing in current situation.
My intitial reaction was ooohhh crap, I probably should cancel both my preorders of CE and standard. I was thinking, how can they do this, it sucks.
1. First thought - I play 16 hours a day.
2. Second thought - I like being one class for days.
3. Third thought - Are they really not going to pander to die hard timesink fans?
4. fourth thought - I remember how long it took to do stuff in XI, are they going to make progressing twice as hard or even harder then XI now. Will it take me the next five years of my life straight to feel super powerful in game?
5. fifth thought - Oh crap, I gotta cancel, theres no way I could see myself trying to make this work for 16 hours straight, Theres alot other games that reward people alot more for 16 hours straight gameplay.
6. sixth thought - If I cancel I wont have preorder items, and if its not that bad, then what?
7. seventh thought later in the day - If theres 8 classes I guess I would have to lvl all 8 each day at a time, how hard could that be? not too hard I guess, and I would have more classes leveled then other people by the time I got to max lvl.
8. Final thoughts - O man, those casual players are going to be expected to have 8 classes or be rejected by most people. This could be worse for them then they thought.
9. Final thoughts - Keep the preorder, and just wait and see how it is a week after release before upgrading computer or using my game.
Been testing this so far to see if it's possible to get surplus xp to 100% giving me 0 xp...... It doesn't seem to go past 10% surplus xp..... Stick that in yer pipe and smoke it!

Unfounded rumour and speculation. I haven't read any credible reports from Beta about people getting fatigue after one hour.
