I gotta say my birthday is the 23rd and this hits on the 22nd and I really wanted a new game, even with all the stuff I dont like about the game the way it is I still want a new game.
My problem is that the game just is not ready for release, this isnt even a its close and will be ready a month after release. This is a 6 months to a year not ready. Its totally an unfinished game, I mean half the world isnt even designed yet.
I just dont know how I can get past that even if I really really want it. : (
Sigh really hope OB changes things drastically or this game is gonna have to be a pass for me : (

to each their own i guess, im terribly bored at work and i work 56 hours a week waiting around for someone to need something (hospitality graveyard shift and its about to be the 5 months of off peak slow season ya....) so im gonna preorder the ce for 8 day headstart and play this games brains out at work hehe
Wait til Open beta to make any decisions. Half the world not designed yet,? um no. FFXIV will have the guildleve system, combat and storyline that we know of. Have to see if SE has any more tidbits for us. It's just how the launch of an MMO is. FFXI and most MMO's could be considered unfinished. Adding in content is the easy part for an mmo, designing the world, balancing and concept that took so many years was the hard part.

It is fine for release. It is far more developed than FFXI was at release, and nearly every MMO out there besides WoW which was a much more stripped version of itself.
Launches are a unique and fun time in any MMO. I wouldn't miss it for the world... Well 9/22 is my anniversary so I will miss it for that, but 9/23 I will be there.
Also the beta version is not the full version. At gamescom, etc. they have all 3 starting cities in those builds, and in OB they will have them. The beta so far has been very limited content wise.
WoW had problems at launch too...
Haha yeah it did. I remember the login troubles, the loot bug, the queue. That first month in WoW though was a blast. The PvP outbreaks in the open world were amazing. It is too bad they sold out to the instanced BG route instead of stabilizing their servers and promoting world PvP. It was such a great game at launch...
Anyways about XIV it is unique, it has controversial systems, but all in all it is shaping up to be a really great game. I think for those that are open minded it will be an amazing breath of fresh air, and for those who aren't I am sure they will come around after they get WoW clone after WoW clone that lasts for 1-3 months. I have a good feeling FFXIV will be sitting there steady just like FFXI.
I think they're making the right decision by just trying to get everything right that they want in at launch.
Rest assured, more will come later. SE knows what they're doing. They're putting out a great game, and they want to see how everything plays out. A lot of people are complaining about fatigue and what-not, but this is their way of limiting your progression initially, so that they can make sure everything is smooth and that there will be good end-game content when you're ready for it.
Ive never played a Final Fantasy game before but from what i hear this new game will have a great crafting side to the game.
If thats the case, will the crafting side of the game be ready for when the game comes out ?

Still debating on it myself. I suppose I'll make my decsion one way or the other after ob. The one thing I really disliked about FXI was the ui, and I'm not real enthused with what has been said about this game's design either. It just seemed rather archaic and poorly implemented.
Although probably best if I see for myself than go on hearsay.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Seriously? *schratch head*
You could have waited 1-2 weeks for the OB or just do some research...
But nooooooooo! You had to make this pointless/useless OP junk.
If you think its that far off from being finished, don't play it.
you do know we have a very limited beta client atm i would hold off your judgemeant until we get the open beta client.
ffxi was tested this same way
Yea I am holding off to see what OB brings.
However many of the things people think SE will add change are not going to happen.
#1 ) The explanation of the surplus system was pure PR BS in reaction to the explosions on the beta forums and fansites. I played and tested the system as it is now extensively in the last phase and there is no way its an 8 hour timer. It is totally and completely and exp cap. I was able to get to zero exp in 4 hours solo, 3 hours grouped easy. Think you are going to switch classes and progress another class? Ennn wrong answer all classes share the same exp pool/cap.
This system was designed this way for one purpose to sell extra character slots. Do you think SE is going to remove one of thier key money generation schemes?
#2) Auction House.. NEVER happen. SE rents us shopkeepers. First is free. Each additional will cost us $1/month. Again this is a revenue generation scheme designed and built into the game already.
SE spent money to design this and incorporate it. I promise you they intend to keep it and use it.
As for my comment about unfinished world, I played and explored I took the time to walk to the everywhere you could go. I stand by my comment.
At the moment my only hope for this game is that the OB client is a totally different game and what we were testing was just a design tool and or a server load tester tool.
who cares if you was able to cap it. you wont be ablet o as easy at release yout hink there going to leave it the same.
and this hits the nose on the dot. At the moment my only hope for this game is that the OB client is a totally different game and what we were testing was just a design tool and or a server load tester tool.
AND AUCTION HOUSE WILL HAPPEN GESES just not at release. there is even a place in game for an AH
