PS3 Lifespan (and deciding on a purchase)

I was considering picking up a PS3 as I've recently gotten into a console gaming mood.  I was wondering if you guys have any estimate on how many years there are left in the PS3? I would also like some game recommendations for it to help with my decision.  Thanks!

6 more years is things go as Sony plans.

Sony has said often they're planning on a 10 year lifecycle for the PS3, and its into his 4th year now. It's also worth noting that they're STILL supporting the Playstation 2, even though it seems finally publishers have stopped releasing games for it.

But, if you're betting on a Sony console, they're definitely the most stringent in supporting their consoles until the very end.

Also worth noting that with all these motion-based attachments; Wii MotionPlus, Sony Move, Microsoft Kinect, it's really like a new hardware generation considering we're in a phase where all publishers are having to make launch titles all over again. Now's a fine time to jump into console gaming.

if i were to buy another console it would be xbox 360. the games it has are supercalifragilisticexpealidocious.... yes i just spelled it. like a ps2, which was once the most played console in the world, the xbox wont go out of style for another 10 years. sony comes out with a new gaming system every couple of years. too much variety in a company means too many diverse games. too many diverse games means that less selection is bound to happen. xbox has invested in purely awesome games aswell including: L4D series, Halo series, and many other top quality games.

Ending theory: go with the thing that is a better deal...

Empathy: hope ya find what your looking for

I'd go with a Wii instead of 360 or PS3.  You get the motionplus with the $199 console.  PS3 Move is supposedly going to cost around $80, and xbox kinect is rumored to be anywhere from $100 to $150.  $200 vs $200+$150 vs $300+$80, Wii is the best bang for the buck...plus the new Zelda is awesome! And Puck is coming back on the Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2 just came out.  Metroid Other M....this next year will belong to Nintendo (I want one of those 3DS's!)

The quality of games on the Wii is diabolical when compared to the other two, though it really depends how interested in gaming you are.

I'd say the PS3 has another 5-7 years left.
