Interesting take on the spam refresh... but I didn't get home until near 2 AM EST and by the time I got here, I only needed to click on the link that the twitter posted. I seriously did not see that ToS. I saw the original one for the Closed Beta, but maybe that one didn't load for me.
In any case, I thought you just weren't allowed to post videos now? It says right below it: "However, at some point during the Beta Test, Company may officially announce on the official Beta Test website or via email that certain specified materials may be uploaded and published. " So I thought it was stated that you just couldn't post gameplay videos...
i don't know mate. But to be honest, the servers haven't even held up long enough to have any substantial play time. As it is, i'm watching the server status on a 3rd party site and waiting to get in for longer than 10 minutes.
I was asleep when they gave out keys cause some of us have to work, fucking joke. They need to give out keys at different times of the day so some of us can get in, I was in Alpha and CB but can't play Ob... stupid.

Ha, same here... I'm not mad or anything, I'm pretty sure we all saw shit like this coming, as soon as open beta was announced.

You know what they say, the early basement dweller gets the beta key... err... maybe?
I got into game pretty late so I didnt do much. The 2nd intro was beautiful. Wont say more because I dont want to spoil it except that it had a different feel than the 1st from CB. When I got past the intro I was in an area with a bunch of other players maybe 30 or so. Wasnt lagging. Controls felt the same as in CB but then I only ran up and down a bit then logged. Havent got in yet this morning.
Everything is up, but when I enter everything on the login, it doesn't go to the lobby, goes right to the maintenance page again, anyone got any ideas?
Everything is up, but when I enter everything on the login, it doesn't go to the lobby, goes right to the maintenance page again, anyone got any ideas?
No clue what-so-ever. I never even got a maintenance page. Just errors when I try to access the lobby.
I haven't been able to play more than about 30 minutes of the Open Beta, but I was in Closed Beta 3. I like the new starting zone Gridania just because it's a new change of scenery and a new player-involved cinematic story-line that is different than the Limsa Lominsa one.
From CB 3 these were some of my findings:
-The game first and foremost looks awesome even if you don't have it at max settings. Look at the armor (how it's not just a "skin" that is applied to your character. It has depth, shadows, texture, etc.) and look at the scenery--especially the sky!
-Cross classing is an awesome idea for me. While you're not "dual-classing", you can use many abilities from Class A while currently playing Class B (assuming you've learned them already). For instance, if you level Conjurer to level 4 and learn the "Cure" spell, you can then hop over to the Gladiator class and equip the cure spell.
-You can equip as many of those current-class or cross-class skills as you want as long as you don't go over your current alotted skill points. You get more skill points every level that you can use. For example, my Gladiator had I think 16 skill points that I could fill up. Cure uses 3. Your main basic attack for any class uses 0, and some other class skills (like the thaum and conjurer mp restore spell) require 0 as well.
-There is Active and Passive mode. In active mode, your character unsheathes his/her weapon and is able to use attacks. This mode is automatically activated when trying to cast a spell or use an ability. Passive mode sheathes the weapon and allows you to regen hp. You also run faster in Passive mode than in Active mode.
-Combat is pretty straight forward. As my Gladiator, I had Light Slash and Light Stab as the two basic attacks (weapons in this game have slashing and piercing damage. Light slash will do more damage if they do more slashing damage and light stab will do more if they do more piercing damage. The newbie sword does 60% slashing, 40% piercing) These basic abilities use up maybe 1/6th of your stamina bar and they are performed maybe once every 2 seconds? Other abilities (attack spells like fire, blizzard, etc or certain buffs like Rampart) use more stamina and then there are others (such as cure) that use a lot less. There is no auto attack and everything that you do is based on what you press. Your stamina bar regens at a pretty decent rate in that by the time your character is able to swing again, you'll have enough stamina to use Light Slash or whatnot.
-Guild Leves (quests) are your main source of exp, gil, and class tokens (at least they were for me). In order to take a Guild Leve, you need to go to your local Adventurer's Guild and pick it up from one of the npc's. You then go to the area that the Guild Leve takes place and click on the Crystal and initiate it. There are different types of Guild Leves. There are Regional Guild Leves which generally require you to kill things and give you gil, armor, and/or class tokens as a reward but you can only do 8 of these per 48 hours, or Local Guild Leves which are generally for crafting. There are also Faction Guild leves that require you to have a certain amount of rep with a faction to undertake them and require you to kill a boss mob.
I'd hate to make this any more gigantic than it already is, so if you have a specific question, just ask me I guess.

When I type in my information and hit "Log In", it flips the page and shows a big "Play" button. It doesn't show any maintenance or whatnot. I then click "Play" and it starts up FFXIV.
Your welcome. There is a ton of new stuff, seems every second. Easy to get lost in the paperwork. Yeah.. the Lobby 13001 error yet again.. fill to the max, all at once.

I don't even get there, it sends me to the maintenance page... what the fuck, is there anywhere I can troubleshoot any of this????
Nope. It's server side. Just sit back, keep your arms and legs in side and enjoy the ride.
Okay, but can anyone confirm that when everything comes back up and it all works again that I won't have any issues that relate to my current one? Apparently everyone else gets to the lobby page, right as I log in it always sends me to the same maintenance page, really odd.

Servers show everything is up. However, there are a lot of people and that is an understatement all trying to get on at same time. Lots who snagged key but couldn't get on last night and then we who got to only taste.. the list is long.
We are currently experiencing technical difficulties where users may not be able to log into the game once the number of connections reaches to a certain number below the intented login limit. The issue is currently being addressed, and new updates will follow as additional information becomes available.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Edit.. ops.. forgot to say, this is the latest post about this matter I have seen on SE site
Servers are down and have been so for the majority of the day. For those few whom have gotten keys and are working with SE's tech department (i,e, slamming their servers with traffic and breaking them) are getting minute opportunities to play.
What we've seen thus far:
World is beautiful
There are cutscenes which make the world come alive
Movement is comparitively slow considering other usual MMOs, but you find it's more fluid than "slow"
Many people prefer gamepads over the mouse and keyboard (too used to consoles?)
Fighting is turn based, and may seem slow to those who are more used to persistent smashing
Many people prefer gamepads over the mouse and keyboard (too used to consoles?)
Playing with a controller is honestly the only 'reasonable' option even in this current build - keyboard/mouse is just awful at the moment. Playing with a controller feels great and works extremely well - so I don't mind. USB controllers are cheap enough anways.
I have to add my cents on this post because i saw the same things in FFXI.
I am not sure you can take anyone complaining about the controller /keyboard issues, because i heard the same complaints in FFXI and it was the best i have ever used/played.I think too many are set in ONE way of playing and if it is not auto set to those controls they have no patience to learn or change the settings.
As far as beackground textures go,i would assume it will look exactly like FFXIII no?Only the up close textures will look good,as i am sure to accomodate the bandwidth the textures will drop off badly the further away.Besides everyone would lag badly if quality was maintained over a long view distance,it is to be expected really.
Combat speed, again that is totally up to each individual,i have heard tons of complaints about FFXi's combat ,yet i think it is the best,so receiving answers from people in Beta is kinda useless aunless you have an identical mind set as that person.
I think the keyword is patience,i am not in the game yet but i am not frantically waiting either, when i get in it's all cool.I kind of wish that Square since they stated in the beta application they wanted you to activiely participate in feedback, that they would force people to give feedback in a form of questionnaire every hour of game play.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Its supposed to be hardcore if you played there first mmo you would know this.
ff11 wasn't hardcore, it was just boring.
If I were to put together a test to see if somebody has much sense of MMORPG sophistication, then their checking the "ff11 wasn't hardcore, it was just boring" box would be an automatic failing grade.
I thought the NDA was lifted or something? I was all ready to type my experiences (good ones, too!) about the game so far.
That is a direct copy/paste from the OB ToS
It's a bit of a baseless formality once a game has entered open beta. Like it or not, once the game is more or less open to any member of the general public who just grabs a key right off the website, the word of mouth on the game is out.
I have to add my cents on this post because i saw the same things in FFXI.

I gave FF14 a try, and I even started understanding the controls. I made it to lvl 20 in multiple classes (in CB). Yes, you need to learn the controls. I did it - and didn't like it at all. It's just dumb to have a keyboard and mouse and you are forced to use a shitty controller.
The mouse is software driven, that means with a very fast processor there is no big issue with it (means that SE will just wait and implement NOTHING). Do not only buy a controller, also buy a highend computer if you want to play ff14 (luckily I have one, so no performance issues for me, but I heard a lot from other people).
The UI is very, very bad programmed, technically and from a design point of view. It's illogical, slow, clumsy, unuseful, even scary... Indeed you need to program macros to be able to target other people in your group... It does not help to have a good computer to make the menu faster.
The graphics are great, no doubt. Unfortunately the world sucks like hell, as you cannot jump, and therefore there are "invisible walls" everwhere around you. "Look down, there is a nice area, just 2m below you - we just need to walk around the next ten thousand corners to get there..."
Quests are always the same - take a guildleve, kill 5 monsters (follow the arrow, lol), and bring back. The world is not immersive at all, due to the many artificial rules that had to been setup in order to slow down the leveling, as there is no endgame at all. E.g. you may do only 8 guildleves (~10 mins each) in two days.
If you dare you may switch classes by just changing the weapon you are wielding. Bad thing about it: you need half an hour to setup your skill bar again, because the UI is so damn slow. Actually you have to switch classes, because you may only play 8 hours per week on one class with full xp and another 7 hours with reduced exp - after that: 0. See threads about surplus.
Combat is slower than in most other mmos - that i like. BUT as the UI is built for a controller there is no good way to switch targets. If you want to play a healer (like I did) do not even bother trying to group. Actually the game is very melee and very solo friendly. Also there is no group content beside doing a guildleve in hardmode.
This game is not hardcore, not at all. It is in fact the easiest game I ever played, even easier than eq2...
I give this game a 1/10. 1 for the good graphics, 0 for everything else.

The new and improved NDA that went into effect when they gave out the fan site materials. NDA is partially lifted.. just no vids or music.
