MSE says: Virus in beta client

Microsoft Security Essentials is detecting a virus in one of the beta update files. Could be a false positive, anyone know?

Category: Virus

Description: This program is dangerous and replicates by infecting other files.

Recommendation: Remove this software immediately.

Microsoft Security Essentials detected programs that may compromise your privacy or damage your computer. You can still access the files that these programs use without removing them (not recommended). To access these files, select the 'Allow' action and click 'Apply actions'. Make sure you got a legit client from SE, I have MSE and it hasn't found anything...

Looks like there's a thread about it on the beta forums.

T'is possible that you have something already, that was hiding from MSE, and while installing the beta client, it went and put itself on it, causing MSE to pick it up

    Who knows..

Got the same warning as well with MSE. It also stopped the installer right at the end and closed it down so I have to do it all over again. Wondering right now if I let MSE clean it will it screw up the client.

False positives happen a lot.  When you're getting the file straight from Square-Enix via their patch server, chances are you're in the clear.  On the other hand, if you downloaded your client from some third party, it's entirely possibly they slipped something in.

Only MSE has this detection from what I have read on other sites.

The one I downloaded a guy said he detected a virus with MSE but avira didn't detect anything, neither iobit security 360 pro version and now scanning with windows defender and avira full scan nearly done but atm no warrnings/virus found.

I'm more inclined that it's a false warning but who knows?

IF you dl'ed from a torrent this is what you possibly get. All kinds of fun stuff could be embeded in your files. I never dl games anywhere other than trusted sources. It may take longer but i know its safe.

Seems to me that the people getting these reports need to confirm where they downloaded the beta client from.

Please keep beta client issues to a single thread. Thanks!
