I predicted this, this was the same reaction FFXI received, not surprising FFXIV is getting the same criticisms. People that don't understand or follow SE don't really understand how they operate. They work very differently than most companies I've seen, I have no doubt this product will be the product we expect at launch, like FFXI they are not releasing the full game till release... They are indeed hiding 6GB of the 15GB file from us during OB. SE is more concerned about stress testing the servers to maximize the stability than they are about marketing their product in OB, which is fine, I rather have a game where the company worked until release day to maximize performance than a company that just spat everything out during the end of CB and said, "We're done." FFXI from the beginning was always a work in progress, constantly getting updates and expansions, and in the end it probably has the most copious amount of content of any MMO i've played so far, dare I say more than WoW? Of course it is a couple years older than WoW too... The reaction which FFXIV is of no surprise because the game is so different in the way it is run and the way it plays that people are not sure what to think. I have full faith that it would live up to the standard FFXI put for and exceed it, it's just going to take time to grow. From what I saw with FFXI it will probably get a new content patch every month or so, and slowly grow until it is what we would call a complete game. I say by the PS3 release it should be what people were expecting at computer release, so for those who are disheartened now, you may want to wait till March and give it a second shot.
Why hide content when it needs to be tested, doesnt make sence.
If its abouth spoilers, then it shouldnt be a issue, beta testers are to test content and see the spoilers, i dont believe there hiding anything, this will be the game on release.

Oh noes, all the WoW scrubs won't play this because they actually have to think. All of the quests aren't available in beta, and no, there won't be little question marks above their heads scrubs. So you will actually.**gasp**have to run around and talk to them to find out who has quests. No one button click crafting or gathering either.
If you want to play a game where you can ditch the WoW scrubs, because it is too hard for them. This is it.
And If you want to play a game where you cna play with immature, intolerant, arrogant and ignorant weeaboos you now know where to got too!!!!
Hey making baseless, insulting generalizations is fun!!!
Are you a scrub? I clearly said WoW "scrubs". If you come into this game expecting to have your hand held and everything be auto attack/crafting, you aren't going to have fun.
If you aren't a scrub, don't take offense to it, but I take back the WoW comment. Not all people that play WoW are scrubs, but the scrubs that do, are some serious begging for gold type scrubs. lol
Is this how you reason stupid things like doing 10 mouse clicks for a simple thing and the fantastically boring combat? I'm impressed.

I agree, my bad. Didn't want to make it a WoW hate thread. To clarify my position. People with minimal patience most likely won't enjoy this game.

Then when does content get tested ? at release? your not making any sence.
Now I need to know, what is the next MMORPG in development to start following and get excited about?
That right there is the issue. You (and many people that use these forums) get themselves all excited when a game is announced. People start imagining how the game will play, how revolutinary the combat will be, how full of depth the crafting will be etc etc etc. Then the information comes out and they initially read the text how they want. People who aren't all hyped up can read what the notes actually mean but those who are all excited twist them to mean something amazing.
Then the inevitable. Those who are all jazzed up get to play the game for the first time. They are SHOCKED that this isn't the game they imagined and believed in. They do not realize the developers never promised them the game they built up in their minds but it doesn't matter, they are now angry and bitter. So what should they do now?
Repeat the process on the next announced game of course! Why learn from that experience and start being realistic about the expectations of new MMOs and wait until all the information is out before even thinking about trying it. No, it is far better to get overly excited by prospects that have never even been hinted at then to be realistic and not suffer the giant let down that no game will ever match your imagination.
Do not get hyped about games before anyone has played it. Do not think the next MMO will be "innovative". Do not preorder the game, EVER. Wait for the free trial to start instead of jumping on and buying a boxed copy right away. That way you know exactly what you are getting into, they have had time to fix all the major launch bugs, and you save yourself a lot of money and headaches. Do not be the guy who keeps latching onto games before they have even been played.
My apologies for getting excited about something new coming out. That being said, stfu
No one here was fantasizing about what the game was going to be like; speak for yourself. I was open to whatever but I will admit that the bar has been set by other MMOs and at minimum any new game that comes out from a big developer MUST IMO at least meet the bar, and really should be raising the bar with their new offering.
Lowering the bar is no way to release a new game unless you desire this kind of publicity.
Why would they have that, when it is clearly not true? Did FFXI have that on it's box? Because FFXI and FFXIV have nearly the same control schemes. People who played FFXI will play FFXIV the same way, with keyboard only. In the beta they don't have directional arrows set up to move camera, but they've already stated on the beta site that they are changing that for release.
Not to insult FF XI players, as I certainly don't indent to, but it has antiquated contols. Its the same control mechanics used back in the days of Spectrums. People who aren't a fan of FF XI, are just going to think "what the hell?".
Keyboard-only takes a bit to get used to for players who aren't used to it, but it's not a big challenge. The UI takes a lot more time to get accustomed with than it does for keyboard-only gaming.
It doesn't take a bit getting used to at all, its just antiquated and adds to the list of why people will give up. Its not like its a challenge to implement decent controls, although its seems that way for SE.
I don't see how the bar was lowered, I've immensely enjoyed the beta. I think the game itself is excellent, the stability of the patcher is what gets me.
Well, I am passing on this game. I dont like the emo looks of it. Besides, gameplay looks boring as hell. There are other MMOs out there that look more impressive than this one.
I noticed that all of the people who will support FFXIV and like it, usually say that the game is beautiful (graphics) and that's the first thing they mention among a few.
Then when does content get tested ? at release? your not making any sence.
It has already been tested via in house testing and CB. Theres no place for OB testers to even report bugs. They are just strictly testing servers stability. Which is suposed to be the goal of OB. Other companies has used it as a marketing technique, like the ones you have to pre-order to get an OB key.
You can tell content has been left out of OB because theres invisible walls completly blocking off named zones which is marked on the map.

Everyone notice how FF XIV's score here has dramatically dropped since OB?
It's a pretty natural reaction, just about every MMORPG goes through this cycle. Some has their rating decreased very slightly, others (like the awful abomination called "Star Trek Online") in a more dramatic way. It don't matter much, though - there will still be a few thousands of die-hard wapanese/weeaboo masochists who will buy FFXiV regardless of any scrore or any other "unconventional", "we-did-it-for-the-lulz"- thing SE might do with this game. Sure, it won't attract any significant amount of casual EU/US players, but it's not like Square Enix actually wants any extra paying customers, such idea would be totally crazy for such a "unique" and "unconventional" (according to fanbots) company
Let me see, how have the threads by the masses gone....
"Man I can't wait until Vanguard comes out!!!" -then- "Man Vanguard sucks, I cant wait till AoC comes out, it will change MMO's forever!!!"
-then-
"Man AoC sucks, I cant wait till WAR comes out, thats the WoW killer forsure!!!"
-then-
"I HATE WAR, I cant wait for Aion to come out!!"
-then-
"Man Aion is just another asian grinder (what ever that actually means) I cant wait for FFXIV"
-now-
"FFXIV sucks!!! I cant wait till SWTOR comes out"
-then-
....... well, we dont need a prophet to guess what will be said on these forums when SWTOR comes out, and then the next one and the next one....
Anyways, I am actually having a good time with FFXIV, the game looks amazing, and the gameplay is very very different than anything I have played before so its been alot of fun for me.
All I can say is, there is an incredible amount of truthiness in that post. Having not kept up with FFXIV I can't add much to this thread aside from the fact that, with gamers, anticipation is often the most enjoyable part. I'm guilty of this myself.

How do you think the crafting and combat should be? What are your ideas?
Not going to say anything about the crafting since I never thought it's bad, it's either like it or don't. I didn't like the combat, it feels like it's a bumped down version of what most other MMO's use "click the mob and do your skills", only in this game you have very limited movement. Again, for some people it might feel good, but in a group of people I can't see how it's going to work. Then there is this thing about making 10 clicks to access something, that I really can't see why it's like that.
Then when does content get tested ? at release? your not making any sence.

You can tell content has been left out of OB because theres invisible walls completly blocking off named zones which is marked on the map.
Those zones are most likely mog houses instancing, Lily Hills, 3rd floor of Ul'dah castle, and one of the many in Limsa.
I noticed that all of the people who will support FFXIV and like it, usually say that the game is beautiful (graphics) and that's the first thing they mention among a few.
mm i support FXIV but clearly not because graphics (i play at low setting for now so) but because of the game mechanism, design and lore. I love the fact that i need to search things in the game, that make me exploring and really see the world. In most of the game these days you follow an arrow to point A and B so this is more tourism than exploring.
