Hello all, just wanted to give eveyone an idea of the gameplay mechanics and content within Vindictus. I will give the basics from what I experienced so please no trolling. This thread will be used to give ppl a better idea of the game as a whole.
Gameplay: Vindictus can be summed up into two words :hack@slash.
The game allows three different control setups:
A. pure keyboard using the arrows keys for movment. (Very similar to Dragonica gameplay)
B. keyboard and mouse. (Very similar to Soulmaster Gameplay) WASD movement
C. Gamepad. Havent used it but ppl say that it works very well with this game.
1. Skills are used through the forms of left and right mouse buttons. (key+mouse)
2. 1-5 keys are used for items ex. Health pots, throwing spears for range, ext
Note: You cannot change keybinds, you can just choose between these two.
Story: For a free to play I believe the story is pretty indepth. I also like the approach on how they present it. They give detailed pictures and animations when you talk to the quest giver instead of just clicking a quest and leaving.
Character Cust: This is where some of the negativity arises. Only two classes to choose from and about 6 hair styles, 5 faces, 12 skin tones, and thats about it. You will notice everyone basically looks the same unless you go dramatic and go with the afro Note: I know its only open beta and not all classes are revealed. Also im sure they will add more cust features in the item mall.
Game interface: Plain and simple(which I enjoy) Very user friendly and easy to navigate.
Equipment/Items: Pretty simple to understand. You get quest reward equipment as well as recipes. How recipes work is after you beat a certain mission, an npc in town will recieve recipes. You can then have them make you those items if you have the materials. Materials are found within the mission randomly. The mission log will tell you where to find them. Easy enough. Some mats are rare drops so you might have to replay a mission a few times until you recieve it. Also, you get bonus stats for collecting the same types of equipment. Ex. If you collect Soldiers headpiece and Chestpiece you will recieve +20 to health.
Skills: They are earned as quest rewards. You then upgrade them using AP points. You get AP points when you win a successful mission. You then apply the points into the skill that you want to upgrade. Upgrads go from F-->A. (Similar to RF Online)
Missions: ALL MISSIONS ARE INSTANCED. I know alot of ppl asking about it. The town is considered the HUB, and you make a party at the boat station. From there you go into the instance. (similar to Phantasy Star Online)
Learning curve: At first I thought the game was pretty easy and was doing all Hard missions until lvl 10. The game then throws you a bone and from 10 on becomes very challenging. I remember going into a mission around lvl 8+ and being 2 shotted from a boss. Before that I was breezing through missions like noones buisness.
Overall(my thoughts) I played or about 8 hours yesterday and I have to say I really enjoy it. Reason being its different from most games and its easy to pick up and play. Its nice to not have to feel like your grinding all the time and the game does become challenging later on to keep you intersted. Sometimes the game does get laggy but I think it was due to it being the first day of open beta. I was able to play most of the night lag free without any problems. I would recommend this game for a fresh gameplay feel.

Just a couple things to add.
You can play with a controller. I used an Xbox 360 controller. It suits this type of gameplay much better than a keyboard.
I believe your lag is due to the "peer to peer" nature of the game. Missions are hosted off the party leader's PC. You will notice a vast difference from one mission to the next depending on who is hosting the mission.
The main site has a costume voting poll, so I assume there will be tons of costumes. Half of those costumes have intricate helmets that hide your head.
