World of Warcraft: Battle for Gilneas 10v10 Map Revealed

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

One of the new PvP maps coming with the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm expansion is the Gilneas Battleground. In the Gilneas Battleground, teams of ten will begin at opposite sides of the map. The goal is to race to the center to control various points in order to collect the resources in a race to grab 2,000 before the other team.

In The Battle for Gilneas, three distinct resource points are available for the taking by either the Horde or the Alliance: the Mines, the Lighthouse, and the Waterworks. Once any of these points is held by a team, access to nearby graveyards will be granted. In addition, workers from the controlling faction will show up to collect the resources necessary to win the battle.

unless they give a far better reasonf or doing it except "normal honor" (justice points), i don't see many jumping for it.

rated battlegrounds (conquest points) aren't going to be as much, getting together 10 and hoping the horde have 10, is one thing but imagine AV with 40 (a reason why blizz got rid of the old raids to begin with).

Since the matchmaking (yeah patch 2.1, whether it actually "works" is debatable) and of course the new LFG tool, PUG rated BGs could work, especially after Ghostcrawler contradicted himself on that subject.

I dunno... did anyone ever like EotS in TBC? no; no rep, no vendor.. awful. Did anyone like Conquest rubbish that was in wrath. nope. although Stand of the ancients was okay.

But again, it didn't feel as good as when the 3 older ones were king. With the vendors and quests in AV. (remember summoning Ivus). Good times.

BGs are fun, but with just justice points on offer for the casual gamer or the "non elite, i don't have a job" kind.... they are never going to be as popular as Dungeons now with the tool.

And Blizz said, they could do a raid version of that.... Step backwards for PvP with WoW. But we knew that was on the cards as soon as the arena BS began.

seriously if i wanted to play Arena, i'd play guild wars... with a spectator mode. And i would not be stupid enough to call it a "sport".

Arathi and Ws mostly but honestly i was sure glad we got new bgs, some fresh battlefields are always good, eots had actually some fun battles and ancients was a blast for the first rounds, no vendor was sometimes really bad but whatever not a major gamebraker for me overall i enjoyed those 2 battlefields way more than the alterac after the changes

Wasn't this supposed to be an urban warfare map?

Looks like it is heavily alliance favored by the positioning of the targets on the map.

Apparently you either are just a troll, don't play wow now, or are a complete moron. A. they still have all the old BGs and they still get plenty of use. B. Yes the LFG system works fantastically. Honor Points are a way better system than the tokens... so if you knew a damn thing you were talking about you would know there are honor vendors, that even casual gamers, such as I, can benefit from.

Im kinda dissapointed about this. I like WSG, AB and AV so much. They are the best 3 BGs because each is different, unique and fun to play. In BC along came EotS and it was fun because it was a mixup of wsg and AB but it used the new capture system not click on flag but get more of your team to that area. I really liked SoTA because that was also different and unique. D Day landing was fun. Conquest Isle was ok but I felt it tried to be AV with seige but the map was too small.

The two cata BGs are just rehashes of WSG and AB. I can see why you would like that but personally I would like something new. I mean I already have a AB and WSG and I really like them. I would rather prefer if they gave me a king of a hill or something new! Anything! Suprise me!!! Just not a rehash of something that is already in place thats very good and what its doing (capture flag, capture nodes).

This looks pretty awesome. A very basic, well-balanced field. Despite what some may see: The labels do NOT mark where you start/spawn and the ships and base seem to be equal distance from the waterworks, which seems to be the main point of conflict. All I'm concerned about now though is if they'll reuse all the battleground mechanics! I'll truely miss capture the flag if not... :(

You mean the actual Gilneas City battleground? That's still in the works I think, but it's been a while since there was any word on it. They might of scrapped that idea and went on with this 'Battle for Gilneas' battleground.

There's also rumors if an 'underground mine' battleground. There's 3D models of it in the data files, which has an Alliance area and Horde.

I agree with one of other posters that EotS was at least interesting being a combination of WSG and AB.  This is just a map update to AB.

Ever since BG-specific currency and rewards were done away with, the incentive to play varied BGs is largely gone. It's still nice to have a change in pace, but I don't want to wait sometimes hours in a now smaller queue that blocks LFG tool usage at the same time, just to enjoy less popular BGs (it's simply easier to get honour via AV - which is now nerfed into boredom too). I want to play! Not be trapped in the queue with only soloing to do in the meantime :-(

I'd do anything to meld pre-BC BGs with the BC queueing (three BGs t a time, and able to use LFG). That would actually be FUN. Some decent fights. Not waiting an hour to play a BG in five minutes - uggg.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

Why bother queuing for the BGs now? It's all over in five minutes. Why would I spend ages in a more limited queue to not have any kind of a decent fight? That sucks. I suspect you're just in it for the honour points. Me - I want to have FUN in a BG. Not wait ages for five minutes of mad rushing (people must hate BGs or why else do they rush so much?).

I am not a big PvP fan and I see WoW going more and more in that direction.
