over a year ago i made a poll and surprisingly 70-80% said they will quit mmo for d3. i myself started playing mmo only because d2 became hacked too much, so i voted yes. but i understand a year ago was bad time for mmos in general. i am curious how it is now? we have promising titles, but to be honest we had promising titles all the time.
go on and vote, but think your answer carefully, since i want this poll to be accurate. for those who hesitate, i included third option "not sure"
and of course comment why yes or why no etc. i expect hell of posts

So your saying Diablo 3 will destroy all mmo's as we know them, i see.......
pls tell me what Diable 3 has that WoW doesn't, besides updated graphics.
Diable 3 isnt' gonna kill anything.
Starcraft has a bigger following than Diablo does. Starcraft 2 was just released. Did MMOs die because of Starcraft 2?
And your statement that your poll of a year ago said 70 - 80% would quit MMOs for Diablo 3 is a flat out lie.

82% said No.
When diablo 3 becomes a mmo maybe?
It will be interesting to see how the multiplayer in Diablo 3 works. I voted not sure.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
I freakin love the Diablo series!!!! However, I think that some next gen MMOs that will be out at D3's release will be able to hold their own against it. I will likely stop playing whatever I am subbing for a bit when D3 comes out though... guaranteed!
If Blizzard can give D3 some good highly randomized repeatable content they may just be able to get a lot of people to ignore MMOs for a bit. Who knows? Maybe D3 will have an as yet unnamed feature that may blur the line between multiplayer hack n slash and mmorpg?
As with any release if it has an impact at all on MMOs it will have people being off for at most a week while they get their fill of the game, then they will return back to their choosen MMo and everything will return to normal. D3 will be great i'm sure but it will in no way shape or form kill MMOs. This has happened before and it will happen again. if you want recent example one of the previous posters said. SC2 was "suppose" to kill MMos, it didn't and i only saw a decrease for a day or so before the numbers went right back up again. So i voted No it won't kill MMOs.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
People will take breaks to play it, sure. I know I will. But it doesn't have the content of a full fledged MMO and can't compete for that long. Most likely it'll end up like D2, where you decide to play for a while when the mood strikes. Then you'll go back to your regular MMO or run to the next big one being released. There's only so long you can grind the same few acts over and over, fun as they may be.
Did MMO died when SC2 launched?
No
Will MMO die when D3 launchs?
No

Hmm... this thread makes me want to start my own poll....
"Did jelly die when peanut butter was invented?"
how SC was supposed to kill mmos? its totally different genre, unlike d3, which has many similarities.
thx for digging out my previous thread, i couldnt find it myself (loool). its interesting that the previous poll turned like this. i could swear the ratings were opposite.
what d3 has that wow doesnt have? faster paced game for one. wow requires tons of time to invest (and money). in d2 i could get lvl85 in 2-3 days
besides......owning somebody on hardcore mode is priceless. most of ppl will never understand it.
and phat loot ftw, like somebody said before, dont underestimate phat loot

I am really torn on the whole Diablo series now... I mean Diablo was my first online RPG and Diablo 2 had me addicted but that was sooooo long ago. The top down camera dungeon crawlers were great when you didn't have games that put you behind the wheel of awesome characters in fantastic 3d worlds, so basically I feel this style of gaming is just way outdated.
I highly doubt "if" I did buy Diablo 3 that it could really grab me like D1 & D2 did back in the day especially with Guild Wars 2 on its way.
It really depends on what the market is like at the time D3 releases and if GW2 is the smash hit everyone is predicting it will be... good luck to you D3 but I think Blizzard should have evolved the series instead of putting a new coat of paint on it and calling it a day.
I didn't play Diablo 1 or 2 and probably won't play 3 either while I like roleplaying game to my understanding Diablo is more of an action/adventure game then roleplaying.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
If anything, MMOs would have all died with the launch of Halo:Reach and SC2. After all, Halo did $200 million in sales in 24 hours. Last time I checked... the only MMORPG that shut down recently was APB, but they shut down because of bankruptcy way before Halo:Reach launch... so I say a resounding NOOOOOO
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
Diablo 3 is a myth
i didn't know Diablo was a MMO. and didn't people ask this same question about SC2?
So if Diablo is a MMO that means, Titan Quest is a MMO? Does anyone get the nagging feeling that Diablo 3 , when it comes out just wont be as good as Diablo 2/2 and be a major disappointment?
lol what a ridiculous question.
i really enjoyed D1 as a single player game, D2 not so much and i never got into its multi-player aspect so D3 has no real appeal to me.

It will be in the gaming matrix that StarCraft: Ghost went to.
Yup, as soon as Diablo 3 hits store shelves, all MMOGs across the globe will be shut down and all further development in the MMOG genre will cease. Yes, Diablo 3 will effectively destroy an entire sector of the gaming industry... Such is the power wielded by Blizzard.

It's just a game like any other. Some people will switch to it, some won't, some will maintain subs, some won't, some will leave and come back, some won't, etc... prior to launch there are always a billion people going "all my hopes and dreams are riding on this project it will be the bestest most perfectest project evers!!!!!!!!!11!1!!!!11!" and then after the find the first flaw or design decision they disagree with they whine and cry and go back to whatever cookie cutter game they were playing. This is no different, it's not special.
