Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited: PAX Update

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

At the recent PAX Prime convention, MMORPG.com writer Carolyn Koh had the opportunity to talk with Adam Mersky, Director of Communication at Turbine about Update 7 scheduled to arrive in October. Update 7 will bring Half-Elves and Half-Orcs online as playable races as well as the Devil Assault 12-man raid. Update 7 will be released on the public test server very soon. Check out Carolyn's update and then let us know what you're thinking on our forums.

The October update (number seven) to Turbine’s Dungeons and Dragons Online is lauded as the biggest update yet for the game. Update seven also marks the first anniversary of Turbine launching the free-to-play / subscription hybrid model for the game and Turbine has planned a slew of new features for it.

LOL this was being advertised like 3 years ago before F2P. They'd say "coming soon HALF ORCS!" like ever update they'd mention that

You always hear about the new subscription numbers, but never any info about the Premium players. I own all the adventures except the newest one, but I'm jobless and broke, lol. I wait for the 6900 points for 49.99 sale too. You get way more bang for your buck that way than you do the Subscription model, and you don't feel compelled to play every day to justify a subscription. Even if I had an amazingly large disposable income I'd still go the Premium route over the subscription one, the main reason among many being that if that were the only way they made money, by making new adventure packs. . .well, they've been keeping them coming pretty regularly so maybe those that have gone the Premium route have helped make that possible. Another problem I have with the subscription model is if you run into an economic downturn and lose your subscription, then you're back to free to play, unless you saved up your 500 points you get with that a month, but as fun as it is to buy cool hats and stuff for your guild airship, what are the odds of having any left over?

I know there are plenty of good arguments for going the Subscription route, but since I'm not for it I'll pass. I'm not a journalist; I don't have to be fair and balanced :D

This hybrid model seems to work out great for everyone involved, eh? :D

Keep an eye on DDM's Realm for all the new gear and quest walkthroughs when they are released.

If you haven't yet you should give DDO a try.  It is now Free to Play! If you need to know what quests are free to play check them out here:  http://www.ddmsrealm.com/ddo  - Just click the top right Free to Play! link and you will be set!

Here's to seeing many more great updates!

Oddly enough this is the update that finally convinced me it was time for this 4+ year vet of DDO to walk away and not come back.

     Why?

Major thing was it has now been almost a year since they gave any high true high level content(sorry epic lowbie quests are not real high level content). The two new races are very OP and with Turbines track record that means right after the sales die off of the new races Turbine will nerf them. I find it sad that DDos two best races will now be OP amd store bought only. Not to mention a lack of caring about bugs for years and the new approach to money first and money always has turned me away from DDO. They keep making what once was a thinking mans MMo into one anyone can play and they took almost all the challenge out. I can play any F2P MMO and get the same challenge level I now get with DDO. To me the DDO I loved died when Turbine decided all their updates would be to cater to new players who ignored the game for years and showed up when the price was right.

Here Here! It's been wowified, I agree, It is too easy. There should be more forthought into building a character. At least it isn't like a complete kiddy game like WOW where they won't let you make a gnome paladin, to where yo cannot start off with a horrible build, but yeah it is nothing like it should be, although one of the best MMO's out there atm
