Yes, this is what I find funny.  If many of these people weren't so used to playing games on auto-pilot mode where you really don't need to read text from NPC encounters or pay attention to the details of what they are being told, they wouldn't be stumped for things to do or asking what there was to think about, lol.

...Or perhaps the complete lack of an answer with reasonable detail has left many users asking the same question repeatedly. The question being, what is so intellecutally challenging about his game?

There are those that seem to "get it", cannot describe it, yet inexplicably have placed themselves on some gaming pedstal the rest of us could care less about.

I'd wager that omitting what some would consider necessary information only creates an artificial barrier. Those who continue to play consider themselves...what. Better? Kudos. We have an MMO full of snobs. How attractive. Most snobs I've come in contact with are shallow, surface-dwelling people who focus on materialism.

Meanwhile, I see many elements of WoW in there. My previous statement would likely have FFXIV fans asking me for details...How exactly is FFXIV like WoW? Should I be obliged to let them in on some information?

Defend the game to death, point fingers, and call other gamers names....but for God's sake.... DO... NOT...TELL...THEM...THE...SECRET. Is this what will shape the FFXIV community?

I think its the haters that have actually fabricated the whole "elitist" attitude by those of us who are enjoying the game.  I dont see many people saying the game is uber challenging, but I see a lot of people hating on the game claiming people are doing this.  Maybe its a way to justify their flames toward the fans of this game?

The game is just different.  Every time a new MMO comes out, everyone jumps on the bandwagon to shoot it down calling it a clone of one game or another.  Here we have a game that is different, and actually has an "old school" feel about it in the way of dialogue.  It steps outside of the box on its interface and does soemthing very different then your typical hotkey bar finger cycling MMO.

Its so different, the same MMO fans that like to call every new MMO a "wow clone" have no other way to react to this than to say people who play this game are "elitists" and basically sh!t on a game thats finally not a clone of the big white elephant, WoW.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

what do I like about the game?  For once I'm drawn back into the storyline and the dialogue of an online RPG.  Instead of looking for exclamatin marks or quest markers, Im speaking to random NPC's and reading their dialogue and actually becoming immersed in the world as a bi-product of quest hunting.

Im looking at the map, reading the names of locations instead of looking for an icon pinpointing my every objective

Im also seeing a very good reason to not only become a crafter, but to find other crafter friends due to repairs as well getting good deals on new gear instead of just sorting an excel spreadsheet type interface called an "auction house".

I really enjoy the pace of combat, and not having to spam/cycle/rotate spells constantly.  I also enjoy the way theyve reduced contested mobs and give players the option to pick their own quest difficulties depending on who they are with.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

anyway, theres a quick run down on what I like.  Im sure you're going to hate it.

    Lol geeze...

Some of you folks are as special as it gets...  (Crispin lol)

What some people seem to completely miss here is ... I noted that many points were my opinion.  Since my opinion can't be wrong, since it is my opinion...  I'm really not sure why this illicited such negativity.

I won't say that it's a fact the game is not hard or challenging... it hasn't been hard or challenging to me...(Quite the opposite in fact).  If you find it hard and challenging, well then...  what can I say...

Fact: The questing is repedative 1-10 for sure.  That's just a fact.  if repedative tasks in games turns you on, then I'm happy for you.  This company's got your ticket... stop reading this and go play the same quests over again!  Bring your friends!

Fact: The game world is a bit buggy and underdeveloped/Limited in features.  (No Jumping for instance), Very limited AI for mobs, world seems pretty static, you get the picture.

Fact: Combat is clunky... targeting isn't the best, time between targeting a mob and combat beginning is slow.  (From what my Wife and I experienced)  Does it get better?  Am I doing something wrong?  Who knows.

Another thing that got my interest was that people were saying this game wasn't sandbox?  Really?  This game is so sandbox that it should come with a pail and shovel!  Same old questing / Crafting (and I do mean old... maybe 8-10 years dated?)

If this post just pisses you off, don't bother replying... I will likely only skim your reply and laugh anyways.  I don't care if you don't like my opinion, I don't care if you think it's wrong.  Insults don't bother or upset me... we all know how pathetic that makes you look...  I don't care that I should have known better... (The game looked pretty decent... some friends hyped it further... many of the sites I read seemed to give it a positive spin...)

If you want to give me some positive feed back, maybe make some suggestions then have at it.  Maybe I didn't waste $75.00 on the collectors edition...  maybe I did.  You'll know when I offer 2 collectors editions for a reduced price in 2 weeks lol!

    Enjoy,

    ~zig~!

If you dont like it, your a hater and the game is not done for you. Dont try to change ANYTHING to the game because IT IS PERFECT, so anything you will say against the game makes you a hater even if you just want to give your opinion how to improve the game. So dont worry, if the game aint 1st on subscription, its because of Wow's fault made all of us noob and we turn our destiny against THE REAL GAME.

    HERE ARE THE FACTS :

1-Most of the people think the UI sucks, fanboi will answer: its not a game for you or play more you will get over it.

2-Keyboard and mouse controls sucks, Fanboi will answer: its not a game for you or  try it with a controler.

3-Combat is slow mode, Fanboi will answer: its not a game for you or its pure FF style you cant change it.

4-You dont have any indication how to play/control, Fanboi will answer: its not a game for you or noob.

Whenever Fanboi will come with a real answer, I will be glad to hear it and please no: they will fix it in a patch. That aint an answer.

But thinking about it ... MAY ITS NOT A GAME FOR US... shame on dev they screwed our franchise. Ill give a try when it becomes F2P.

You know, if people like this would stop calling everyone who disagrees with them a fanboi then he might actually get some real answers. I doubt it though, he seems dead set on not listening to anyone, I mean why listen when all you have to do is insult people and call them names? Sorry, but the 'THATS NOT WHAT I SEE SO YOUR A FANBOI' is really getting old on these forums. Relax man, take some Prozac or something.

Anyway, here is your real answer - there are two types of MMO players, ones who go rage nutts if they dont see action in the first hour of game play, and those who just dont care if they see action in the first hour of game play. If your in the first group, you WILL hate this game, if your in the second group you MAY hate this game, you probably will like it though. All four numbered points above, those are what the first group sees as faults with this game, the second group don't see those faults. This poster here, obviously raged and went into shakes from this game, definately not liking it at all. Seriously, its like watching Beevis and Butthead episodes with some of these people.

There are more in the first group. Blizzard entertainment confirmed this at Blizcon when telling us the reason for the changes to well everything in cata. Over 80% people will quit WoW (or any MMO) within the 1st hour of gameplay they found out through their surveys and info gathering, they are a massive company they can do things like that. So they have changed how talents and starting zones play out in cata to make sure they keep that huge 80% that quit. It's the truth go find out I dont have a link on me but I know its true I read it.

I like wearing lipstick. I love the way it makes my lips glisten and look plump and kissable... Oh, and nail polish too.. Even though I suck at applying it... what? Oh, sorry.

Anyway, I see a lot of "2 hour player alert" posts these days. I think 2 hours is a respectable time to spend in a game, and is generally pretty accurate of what you can expect. If you log into Aion for 2 hours, you've pretty much played the entire game.

While the end game varies, for the bulk of the game (And much of your 30-day free trial) you'll be doing the same thing over and over again.

Using Aion as an example again, you will eventaully enter the PvP portion of it, which is its selling point. That's when the game starts to take a turn. Some games; however, just remain.. the same. The difference is the worlds you travel to and the different enemies you face. FFXI is a good example because you will spend virtually your entire career killing very hard or impossible conned mobs over.. and over.. Leveling 2 different jobs, and revisiting old dungeons many times.

On the reverse end of the pole we have games that offer variety at early parts of the game.

Using WoW as an example, you enter a completely different game at level 10. From level 10 and beyond, you have complete access to PvP battlegrounds. Want to take a reprieve from the questing and fighting? Play a BG.

Or, head out into the world and find a level 80 AFK in Auberdine and auto attack him to death.

While it's too early to say what FFXIV will be in the future considering a good many players haven't even made it to level 20 yet and the retail of the game is still 3 days away, I can say that you shouldn't expect things to change too much for the first 30 days or so.

You may find yourself shifting from waiting in line for monster kills to forced grouping, similar to FFXI. That shift in gameplay may be yet another hill to climb for people just now getting used to the game.

Whatever the reason, picking on people for quitting the game; regardless of how long they've played does nothing to enforce a better opinion of the game.

Offer advice and if the OP refuses to give it another shot, then you've done all you can do. Move on.
