Unlockable dyes and the huge possibilities with no more dye mixing , I'm lovin' it... as long as there are no exclusive cash shop dye unlocks, preferably no way to use your credit card to unlock any at all... but considering how it is an account-wide unlock system rather than the old consumable item based system, it seems really likely there will be some "Dye unlock" packs for sale.
MUCH more interesting blog then I figured it would be. The screens are the best part. Shows how cool, yet practical the armor is and how in depth the character creation can be.
Also, do my eyes deceive me or is the female character actually wearing a FULL set of armor? Unheard of!
love it! someone should post the female pic set.. i think that's the best. The armor all looks much more practical but still very stylish and inspriring.
the female to the far left looks the most detailed, the other females look like there wasnt much thought put into their cheractor customization.
Thinking back on all the charactors we've seen in the demos, and when I saw a guy with the exact same look as me when I played necromancer at pax, I get the feeling that the randomly generated looks where just several the devs picked specifically to keep us from seeing how far the charactor customization goes, and then cycling through them for the different professions.
And if thats true, then the fear that all our charactors will have a plasticy and more cartoony look isnt true; and the looks we've mostly seen so far are mostly just the starter faces with slightly different hair (and makeup for girls).
As I read the entire blog post, one thing that I couldn't help but be continuously struck by was the enormous attention to detail and quality that is going into each feature of the game. Polish, polish, polish.
And another thing that I have consistently noticed is something that I've seen throughout ALL of A-Net's blog posts....these guys are really crazy about their own game and its features. Listen as they speak about them. Its like they are amazed themselves.

Two of my own personal highlights from this blog post:
"Even though there are a multitude of colors, those are not the only hues you will see. For each color, I had to craft three versions to meet the materials’ standards. This shift in hue will happen automagically, depending on the section you want to dye. While some colors will look best with some materials (i.e., copper was really made for metal), their alternate material equivalents will still look great and will feel like that particular color. For example, in the image to your right, the cloth, leather and metal materials are all the same color, but they are shifted to read properly with their intended material."
"We realize as a young hero, the starting areas will have a lot of similarities in what is available to wear. To ensure that the five races have their own identities, we’ve created a cultural palette that reflects the character of the species. This means a red color for a human may not look the same as a red color for a norn or charr. The norn, for example, have far more earthy colors: rust reds and rich forest greens and browns. With the furs, straps, and intricate carved patterns of their culture, these colors really feel solid and meaty on their armors. A charr would have probably have more blood reds and desaturated military blues and greens, while a human might have more jewel-tone reds and blues, etc.
By offering a specific palette to each race’s starting areas, there will be a stronger self-identity when you encounter each other. If you travel to a different city, you will feel like you are an explorer from another culture because the environment around you —including the inhabitants— will feel different. Until you dye your outfit with new dyes, of course!"
Absolutely amazing.
Oh, and hats off to the dude with the all brown armor (leather, metal, and cloth). I wasn't too focused on the norn race. That is until I saw him.

Agree it is the little things that count.
Too many developers have the position that "oh we won't do this or do that because our market research says there is not a huge demand for it, so we will cater to the largest common denominator"
The point is this little things that seem no where near as significant as other game mechanics and "fluff" offer a competitive advantage. And so the process moves on from there, when you think what other small things (furniture, RPG elements etc etc) are out there that not neccessarily everyone will do or try. The point is developer can say "we have that" and the passer by takes notice. Incorporating the little things makes a big overall impression.

Ermmm, i am looking forward to this game as much as the next person but lets not get carried away. Why is a female wearing a full set of armour unheard of?
What mmorpg have you played in the pass?
Anyway, i think this GW2 system will be better than lotro dye system and that's saying something. I wonder how many apperance tabs we will get.
Fear not! The dye hues themselves will be unlockable through various means, both in-game and out.
I'm taking that as meaning there will be a dye unlock pack available to purchase from the store. If they keep with their previous shop model it doesn't mean dyes wont be available in the game, you'll just need to work for them.
I love the passion the folks at Anet always present their information with makes you certain they must love what they are doing.
Oh, and just to clear up the question: yes, most clothing will be wearable by players
That's the second time this has been stated but no mention of the mechanics to support it, will it be a social clothing tab or limited social clothing in certain areas (home instance), if a tab will it be disabled for PvP?
I have to say, dye and armor customization is something I just LOVE.
And the woman behind this seems to REALLY be into what she is doing. That is such a good sign. I can't wait to see this more in depth with all the colors and choices!

A trend with a lot of MMOs, has been for females wearing 'armor' to only have a steel bra/bikini combo with pretty much everything else exposed. The pics here clearly show the opposite of that, with armor that actually looks like it can protect the wearer.

Insane amount of color customization, looks very nice.
Subtle yet exquisite. Gets my forehead stamp of approval.

Love the customization Arenanet is giving it's customers. Total win!
Archlinux ftw
Ok, that was cooler than I thought it was going to be. One more cool explorable detail to look forward to.
Guild wars 2 Dye system demo
This system allows for so many more options than the previous system.
Awessssssssssssssome.

Wow, they love their game, don't they? ^_^
