I really want to go back and play, but all this ninja stuff kinda turns me away.

Guess it depends when you played. If it was somewhat recently, you might have a chance for those things you owned to still be there, but if it was more than a year since you last played, your houses (for certain) will be gone. I'm pretty sure bank contents stick around, but I'm unsure how often or if they do character/account wipes after a period of inactivity. I will mention, however, that if it's been multiple years since your last return, you're best off staying far, far away. The game as it is now is nothing like it was, or should have stayed, during the T2A and Renn era's.
