Believe it or not, many view the objectification of women as "classic prejudice." Actually, the objectification of women is likely the most "classic prejudice" in all of history. The fact that it is still so acceptable and normal for so many people only shows how unsuccessful civilized society has been at educating people about the potential long term pitfalls of blatant objectification of women.

You say, " only retard and insecure people think different."

This game already seems to be attracting exactly the type of audience I was referring to.

So, just what IS this " civilized" society you speak of? A real civilized society would not use its educational system, as an indoctrination tool to suit the whims of various ideologues.  Objectification is what humans do. It is part of their internal processing system.  The fact that such extends to such a basic area as sex is hardly a surprise. Both sides objectifiy the other.  What needs to be learned(which takes time and experience) is to go beyond the surface. This is not going to be from some heavy handed "working on the next generation" nor from indoctrination at the hands of an ideologue dominated state.

I consider that video (and that art style) to be a source of humor. It demonstrates that the young adult Dev's and their target audience have not yet moved beyond the surface. But to take offense at that is much akin to cursing water at room temperature for being wet.   Human males(in even the most repressive, oppressive regime) have through out history demonstrated a fascination with the female form.  Lets let each individual couple work out their own education(believe me, women are more than capable of this... ^^) and leave collectvist abstracts like "society" to the ideologues.

Yeeeahh. Once again, I don't take offense. But similar to what you said in the sentence before that, it does seem like childish art direction to me. Which in turn attracts the same type of audience. I think it's a pretty reasonable stance to take.

And I'll agree with you that using "civilized" as a baseline was silly of me. My version of utopia certainly has nothing to do with what utopia is to someone else. Which is really why I wanted to emphasize this: Personally, I find that people that find this type of artwork acceptable would not have a lot in common with me. And there are many other people that likely feel the same way.

The only thing that's shocking or even surprising is that anyone is actually surprised by it. Ever since humans learned draw there has been sexualised images and there always will be so long as there is a audience for them. Anyway, it's a bit niave if you expect games to more moral or less sexualised than the rest of society that is full of sexual imagery and all the rest of it. But honestly, I think the toon with her ass sticking out showing her panties is just silly looking.

The fact that humans are portrayed more "normally", says a lot, although those who are choosing to be offended seem to be overlooking this.

Are you offended by the sexy succubus in WoW?  Do you go on a tirade and announce that you obviously have nothing in common with any of the millions of people who play WoW?

The male and female of this demonic race are portrayed in the same way... they are not human, they are different, more sensual race...

Seriously?  Why should they show any restraint at all as long as it's still legal.  It's well known sex sells.

I think alot of us are forgetting that the primary reason for making an MMO is to make money.

As I said the only thing you won't have in common with these people will be exactly that, that they find this art acceptable, they are not aliens, they are humans. Do you have everything in common with your friends? I don't think so.

I don't accept the argument that because they have horns or whatever, they are not human and therefor you should not examine them in the same way.

I have to wonder. Do you go on a tirade in all game forums about how ass and panty shots are normal for games and that everyone should accept them as such?

And for the record, I do not view this as sensual. I view it as cheap and slutty.

I don't see what's misogynist in portraying every woman as a whore.

After all, it's not so degrading to be a whore, is it?

If there was some kind of way to not make your character look like a whore, then I wouldn't mind. But female players don't have a choice. I don't mind male players being empty of value (because looking at every girl you can see, even pixelized ones, seems empty of value to me), but I mind it when video games FORCES players to wear, or rather not wear, any cloths.

By FORCE, I mean that if you want to be a part of the game as a female gamer nowadays, you will have to dress like a whore.

    It's disgusting.

Perhaps this is a cheap and slutty race... is it not then appropriate to portay them as such?

Do you get offended when a movie portrays a whore as a whore? a slut as a slut? a lady are a lady?

Do classic paintings offend you, because the women are often unclothed?

I'm talking about what he says during the first 30 seconds of the video. The video game industry really needs to start moving away from this kind of behaviour if it wants to be more widely accepted (and I dunno about you, but I do want that). It's both immuature and mysoginistic and I find it to be disgraceful.

Tell me I'm not the only one.

I agree. I am a grown mature woman and I play female chars. I saw the same thing in Lineage 2 and said "Ok, that is so ridiculous ... let's skip this". That stupid hentai anime "Yay I can see her pants when she bends down" is making the developers deciding to do this look ... childish and laughable.

And watch that ridiculous hip swaying when she does her spell. Are you kidding me? Can I have a grown-up version instead of this prepubertarian giddy thing?

I agree with you on this. It definitely doesn't look good to typical insecure women.

    *snicker*

If that was intended to hint I would be a "typical insecure woman" - way to go. I'm from Germany and on fetlife - are you? Don't project from your cultural background on me.

Because I am grown up with a certain neutral look at sexuality I am not interested to the least to watch my avatar show me her underpants or have women running around bend over doing that. Who is in favor of that shows a lack of ease and maturity in MY eyes on the topic.

Or how about we have all the male avatars run around with hot pants and a bulge and collars on a leash asking to be used as sexual objects? Would you like that?

Simple solution... Don't play games that employ that art style.  Or use a male character if you simply must play the game.  But throwing "misogynist" around in this fashion, is almost as abused as the word "racist" is, and for much the same reasons.  Some people are reading WAY too much into this type of thing. As I said, I find it amusing. It demonstrates that those who created it, and their target audience have not moved beyond the surface level yet.

lol she runs like a hunchback, only thing missing is the hump.yes I said hump....... which I know all the children out there will probably run with that. But seriously it is a bit over done, kind of rediculous IMO,hope it's not what the devs are concentrating on,game quality is certainly taking a beating these days.

So once again in different words:

I view the art direction as immature and childish. I also believe that the people that are attracted to it and find it completely normal for a game are people that I doubt I would have a lot in common with. I think there are many others that feel this way.

And who are you to say Da Vinci didn't have orgies?!

Asian games, manga and art are notoriously bad for their portrayal and treatment of women. Iook at it as their taste in design.

I personaly deal with it in Manga and Anime but there is obvious but still tactfully placed you know thoes things are massive and it might be a bit obvious but doesnt all the full way.

This however makes me sigh a little and shake my head. This is full on looking up her skirt. Theres looking at a swaying ass and checking out booty but this just makes you feel slightly unsettled. Looking up a skirt is just something morally that doesnt sit right with me. Sure Ive checked out a fair few womens booty's in my time. No men can deny to that and women arent stupid, they know whats going on. Looking up a skirt just takes it to a whole new wrong level.

It doesn't sell that well. Not to women, at least. Also, I never said it shouldn't be a part of the game, I said the lack of alternative is outrageous. Because there isn't only whores in our society.

In WoW, most female gamers I met were Tauren race (I only ever played on Horde). The female Blood Elves I met were usually acting like whores, but it's fine because women that didn't want to be whores could be Taurens.

You dude don't understand a simple fact, nobody cares if you come here, putting shit on the game then say "i never play this game", increase your counter +1 and back to your precious gw2 forum. You aren't important and i'm very happy i don't have to play with you.

You can be aman or human as alternative. But is a waste of time speaking with closed minded people like you that judge an entire game based on a 2 minutes trailer with some jokes inside, who dislike korean mmorpgs will find stupids and futile things to bitch about no matter how the game will be.
