Meridean59 was my first MMO. At the time Familiars "Fams" was where everyone hung around in TOS (main city). Was fun chatting it up with people, then heading out RPK hunting.

Wow i am showing my age here, it was released Dec 15 1995.

    Archlinux ftw

Asheron's Call.  My first, still favorite and the one I've spent the most time playing in the last decade-plus I've been playing MMO's.  By today's standards both the graphics and the steep learning curve for the skill based system would turn off most WoWlings.  But I loved how you could go into a town and have it so crowded you could get portal-stormed out of the area, but then run into the wilderness and feel alone in this truly vast world.  I believe it is still one of the largest games in terms of land area.

    Nightfall, a MUD.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Hmm. First MMO I ever played.

Silkroad Online. I did not like it a single darn bit, but it was my "gateway" MMO, and that's about as much as I'll give it.

    World of Warcraft.

The guild I was in was just so awesome...

    Lineage 2.

    Good memories ? Well:

    + Beautiful manga graphics.

+ Guilds, alliances, guild wars, castle sieges.

    + Item overenchanting.

+ I liked many of the classes, esp Shillien Elder and Tyrant.

    - I hated how passive my healer was. After level 65 or so, I couldnt do anything without a group. Even gray mobs would kill my Shillien Elder. Painful.

    - I hated to have to play dwarves to do crafting. Yes female dwarves are very cute. But dwarves where really boring to play.

All in all, there are some things in L2 I would consider perfect, but overall it was far from optimal.

    Everquest!

First MMO i ever played and still the best. Still sub every year, just have a few months break to try another game each year :)

The best grind ever due to what some others have said, " grind didnt feel like a grind because you didnt just log in to advance your character, you logged in to adventure and socilaise and to just be part of it :)

Dungeons were actually dangerous...yes shock horror they werent just a place to go to pick up items, they were actually quite dangerous and you could die!

Bring back Fippy Darkpaw or Gizdaen Gix....or that random Griffon that used to terrorize newbies! bring back Rares!

Cries! why did you do this? why start a thread like this? do you know what youv'e done!

    EQ1 was my first MMO.

I started in Feb of 01, as I had run out of PC games to purchase at Best Buy, so broke down and got the Kunark pack. I got the wife to playing a yr later. I had picked up a second account as a mule account, and would have her help me swap stuff out. I was in a family type guild, and she enjoyed the guild chat.

Eventually she gave the game a try, and been hooked on MMOs  since. The only games I ever saw her get hooked on was Mario Bros 3 and Sonic. She also used to race with me and a friend on N64 Mario Kart, and we used to play some Mario Golf.

She has gone on to be more hardcore in MMOs than myself. I left EQ basically in mid 06, and she moved over to EQ2 since that time,  as she could solo besides grp/raid.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

First one I played a lot was Anarchy Online starting around 2002. Lots of good memories and wish I'd thought at the time to keep in touch with some of my clan mates.

Tried AC around 2000. I had such a crap computer then that I lagged a lot and didnt get that into it.

I remember sitting down to figure out the candles for spell recipes after launch 50 people huddle around the mage shop fizzling spells like mad and an occasional woosh as an acid blast 4 went flying by.

    Rubies of Eventide.

Ultima online. Blew my mind when I first saw it and was informed of what it was. Went out and bought it the next day. Amazing times, miss those days for sure. Although, it may have ruined my social life, lol.

EQ. Good memories? Some. I mean it did hook me to this genre. But the effective inability to solo, the corpse runs, the trains and kill stealing? No thanks. I will take the new MMO's anyday.
