This reminds me so much of STO it isn't even funny. Did SE consult with Jack on this one? FFXIV has the all in one character like STO was supossed to have with the unlimited skill point system. Limited character slots for both with extra charges for more. At least SE held through and can justify to a certain degree limited slots. How much is the extra costs for more storage for characters really other than a cash grab.
Unfinished game with promises of a 1 month miracle patch. Both have questionably good graphics but gameis meh and lack of content. Is it all about box sales now then go F2P at some point to get another cash boost?
Why all the hate? Because Square Enix has brought a unfinished game to the table, and they know it.. It good on their part tho, because they released it at such a time when the MMO market hasn't really seen any AAA p2p in quite a while.. Had they waited the extra months this game needed then they'd might be competeing with some bigger named MMORPGs comeing out; such as Cataclysm, DCUO (even tho it got pushed back now), SWTOR (even tho theres rly not a date on it atm), GW2, ect..
They WANTED to implement pvp into this game, but they didn't have the time.. They even said this on a interveiw, stateing some skills were met for PvP but the PvP itself couldnt be finished in time to make it for release.. Wonder why they limit the ammount of quests/XP you can earn? To keep you playing and paying longer so they can get the much needed content out.. No auction house? C'mon..
I played OB breifly and i really wanted to like this game.. But the OB was terrible.. Square Enix couldn't even take the time to make a worthy computer-friendly UI? That's just lazy.. How rushed were they to put this game on the market? It took me less then a few hours to figure out the game wasn't for me, atleast not in its current state.. So i planned on purchaseing the game possibley after reviews or once PvP gets implemented later down the road.
Now that i've read the reviews i've realized not much has changed since OB! Still no auction house? Gotta zone into the player market? What the hell is that.... Game Spot gave FFXI (and no im not a FFXI fanboy) a 8.5 at launch; which IMO is sorta generous considering how FFXI launched.. They gave this game a 4.0! (link: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/finalfantasy14/review.html?tag=topslot;thumb;4 )
But sure.. Maybe Game Spot is out to get Square Enix or something? I thought that too.. Until i checked out the player reviews (which at launch are usually really generous hyped up reviews) and its FULL of 4.0 and 5.0 rateings; with only a few of the usual overhyped 8.0-10 rateings in there.. (link: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/finalfantasy14/players.html?tag=player-reviews;header;more )
Heres its player ranking on Game Spot.. Lowest i've seen for any MMO (could be wrong tho)
It's more Abysmal then Prime+Terrible+Poor put together!
If you're really likeing this game then good for you.. But i'am sure theres a few out there who are jus enjoying it because they forked over $70 for LE + monthly fee's and don't wanna feel ripped off.. But it's ok to feel ripped off.. I say let Square Enix know; maybe then they'll get onto makeing the much needed content quicker.. But my guess is after Cataclysm and a few other MMO launches FFXIV will end up with a lower population the FFXI does lol..
I always lol'd at the "This Game Is gonna have more population then WoW" comments...

I dont play ff games. That said from all ive read this is a game that has multiple facets to it. All of them hard. This should be a game the wow is to easy crowd would love. The problem is these same wow is to easy crown whiners are whining ff is to hard.
Im almost willing to bet at least70 pct of these ff is to hard to difficult whiners are the same wow is to easy whiners. Just goes to show u can never please the people who qq all the time. Nothing will be good enough for them.
Here is a game perfect for hardcore gamers who want lots of choices. From what ive read ff 1v has multiple paths to level Things to do to trade off leveling. The kind of game so many people saying sw tor should be like sw galaxies should love. The issue is they dont.
Just goes to show no matter how much people whine about casual games in the end the casual games like wow are the ones they play because easy is more fun then hard. Even to the so called harcore fans.
Why the hate?? Well thats simple, its like a 4th grader really, when they dont get thier way they stomp thier feet, kick and scream and throw a temper tantrum. Well thats what happened with FFXIV, so many people thought they knew what it was going to be like, but it just so happened they didnt actually work for SE and well, SE did what they wanted on thier game design...without consulting all these 4th graders FIRST. So when the game finally came out, and it wasn't exactly the way they wanted it to be, they kicked and screamed and got all mad, and they are still going on about how they didnt get what they wanted exactly how they wanted it. Its not enough for them to know its not what they wanted, but they have to make sure there is a big enough scene so everyone else knows how much they really wanted what they wanted. You see, if they were adults, they would just admit the game isn't to thier liking and move on, but since they are 4th graders, they can't do that with out the kicking and screaming.
P.S. I wrote all that as a joke, really. If you feel it refers to you, well....it isn't pointed at anyone in particular, but the theory may hit home to some. And if you feel it may accurately describe you, then perhaps it may serve as a wake up call that we are in fact adults afterall, and we are just discussing a computer game right. It's not like someone stole your iPhone or wife or something.
this is the worst reply in forums history... why write it down if you dont mean it?
As for reply to the topic itself because im sure you did mean it; you analogy to a 4th grader is all wrong, think more about a 16 y.o. boy that has his 1st car ... fanboi will like the car no matter what ... rust, noise, fuel cost etc etc And the hater will see a car that hasnt 2-4-5th gear, burns more oil than fuel, smells like vomit... So yes he will complain.
I like FF ip alot but nothing in this game pulls me towards enjoying it.
Everything Haters as you may call them, complains about is NOT related to gameplay but some BASICS every MMO should have or not ... UI lag is not made especialy for the fanboi, and so is bad controls. No general chat maybe a hardcore feature but in my world its just an obstacle. WE haters complain about programming bugs and broken features not how the game playing style is.
The 'this game his not for you' argument was pulled out so often that im really trying to find to whom it was designed for. My granma might be in the target market for this game.
And this statement is what is truly wrong with the genre right now. Everyone feels that all mmos or all games of any certain kind MUST have some of the same basics. That is complete and utter trash. Myself and quite a few other are pretty sick of playin the same freakin games with different skins. Its time for companies to start making their own individual games and stop falling to the so called standards that the people here seem to believe need to be there for every single mmo. Screw that. Give me something fresh for a change. To the rest of you go ahead and keep playing more and more clones of the same crap. Different is far more refreshing then you guys seem to realize but with it you have to have patience to learn the new system in the first place. Go take your rant over to an EVE board and see how torn to pieces you get. Move along lemming.

Mixing hardcore and slow? There is nothing "hard" in FF14, it's just endlessly boring.
None of the hate really surprises me. It takes an unusually experienced mindset to disseminate how a good game can exist regardless of a generally ponderous GUI. There's gamers, the average joe who plays games sometimes and is liable to rage quit at the first sign of inconvenience, and then there's Gamers, the people who really have a passion for the medium, connoisseurs whose eye for games can see well past first impressions. Even amongst Gamers, no game is for everyone, but those who found Final Fantasy XIV is for them will likely be impressed with the foundation delivered.
I said before it would be a rocky ride. Even rockier if you hang about on a forum largely populated by folks looking for a place to vent their disappointment that the game wasn't everything they dreamed it would be. However, perhaps after a few months of refinement the gamers (and Gamers) who couldn't enjoy the game at first will find it to have adequately improved to meet their expectations.
People hate on the game because they don't like it, and don't want it to succeed. If it isn't profitable, then no one will make more games like it, and will hopefully make games that said people like. Was that really so confusing?
Important facts: 1. Free to Play games are poorly made. 2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals. 3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE. 4. Community is more important than you think.

I agree that it should be possible to improve on everything by changing the so-called standards. As long as it is an improvement ;-)

You obviously havn't read enough into this game or played it..
If you don't enjoy using a broken, laggy UI, you're not playing the game right.
If you don't enjoy searching for mats to make a level 15 item to make level 2 gear without an auction house and a global chat channel, you are playing the game wrong.
If you don't enjoy having to grind after the 8 quests that are on a 36 hour cooldown are over, you're playing the game wrong.
If you find yourself dreaming that the airships in the sky would land and take you to a better game, you're playing the game wrong.
If you spend 90% of the time you could be playing the game on forums defending the game from factual opinions, you're not playing the game right.
I'm not sure, but I think I may be playing the Fanboi class wrong.
Ok show of hands, who here is actually playing this game? Not did you play last month, but playing today, tomorrow, next week. Oh and if your hand isn't up, than you have no rigth complaining about it, because your not part of the player base anymore for the game, so your opinions dont count anymore. Sorry, thats the way of the game world. You do know most p2p games now restrict thier official forums to playing/paying members right?? So yeah, that does mean you have no say in what SE does with thier game, they wont even hear you way over here.
And no, thats not fanboi, thats cold hard truth. Get over yourselves already. You want to make the game better, pay and play it and post on Loadstone forums where they watch. You want to troll and flame the game for the purpose of trolling and flaming, well then you can continue right here, because thats all your gaining by doing it on these forums.
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)

I'm casual, I play, I like and I'll continue to play. I even managed to decide all this for myself (go figure).
I no longer see any point on actually discussing the game on these forums its pointless.

Oh so since the Nazi's were only tormenting people in Germany/Europe we have no right to hate them? Terrorist blew up the Twin Towers but if we don't know anyone effected by it then we have no right to hate Al Queda? C'mon.. That ISN'T how the game-world works..
The game hasn't changed much from when it was released.. We don't need to be playing it right now to see that, i've read the reviews.. I've searched thru the forums.. I played OB and i knew it was a steaming pile of shit then.. Based by all bad-rep it's getting and the things i've read not much has changed..
Is the UI still clunky and annoying? Is there still no auction house? Do i really need to zone into some lag fest area to jus' to buy and pawn my wares? Is the map still a convulting mess? Are levequests still limited 8 to 36 hrs? Is crafting still impossible because of the economy and high lvl mats needed? Hmm.. By what i've read ALL that is still there from OB.. The game HASN'T changed.. And that's why people are mad..
Seems like only fanboys are only defending FFXIV atm.. "This game is good, i don't care what the tons of people on forums are saying! Or the critic reviews! Or the hundreds of player-reviews!" or "If you're not CURRENTLY playing it then you have no right to comment!" thing.. No i'am not currently playing it, because the open beta sucked and it still sucks now after launch.
Currently Playing: Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
This game deserves all the ish talking it gets. When a customer buys a product said customer is allowed to voice their opinion on the matter. When a game dares to stupify the genre people have the right to speak out...Gamers and gamers alike. When a game offers nothing new nor brings anything old that worked well to the table and attempts to break away from the mold...but fails miserably doing so...people should spread the word. If just one person reads this and thinks "well maybe this game is not for me" than I can feel good about this post. This game deserves no mercy from me, regardless if they want us to "review it in 3-4 weeks". They f'ed up and everyone knows it, including said makers. Watch this game crumble.

And you know all this from listening to other people who do not currently play this game...and you believe it, thats just funny as hell. You base all your lifes choices on the opinions of others that dont actually know anything about what your doing too? Seriously, I'm not talking a tyrant and a world war here, I said that the place to put your gripes about FFXIV if you want them heard is on Loadstone because thats where it will be seen by SE. I also said, that if you are not a paying customer of thiers then you cannot post on thier forums and wont be heard by SE. And I also said, that if your posting here thinking your gripes are going to be heard by anyone other than people just like you, then your just wasting your time. That is all fact, and yes I know you didn't like that, but oh well can't help there.
Sure you played OB, for how long? The bad reviews?? Like the Gamespot one right?? The first 10 seconds and last 10 seconds on that vid review should give you all the clue you need on that reviewers view of the game. They really are that telling if you know anything about the game. If you cant' see it in those two 10 second blocks (without even listing to a word the dude says) then you have no clue whats going on with how FFXIV plays. Sorry, but you dont. And if your basing all your logic off others who dont play, haven't played, and aren't going to play, well then seriously...I dont need to argue that point at all, it speaks volumes all by itself.
And here is your answer, although you won't believe it, I know you won't but I'll put it down anyway.
Is the UI still clunky and annoying?
Nope, not clunky at all - annoying, only to people with the attention span of a ferret. Its different yes, either you can adapt to different or you can't, thats all there is to it. If you can't and you dont like it, oh well, thats a personal issue there.
Is there still no auction house?
No AH no. But then again, I make a crap ton of money off the current system because people like you are too lazy to use anything that takes more than 45 second of your time to use. Does it need a AH or market search function, sure, is it being worked on by SE - YUP! Is it a game breaker - nope.
Do i really need to zone into some lag fest area to jus' to buy and pawn my wares?
Actually yes, you do need to zone into a seperate area to buy and sell on your retainers. Do you have to do that for everything - NOPE! If you dont know any other way, well thats just a lack of game play knowledge. If you really wanted to buy/sell things, and you didnt' want to use your retainer to do so, you could have found other ways, but you proably didnt bother to try. My guess, you yelled and screamed and kicked your feet and said I HATE THIS and well...
Here let me give you an example shall I. I spend about an hour each day taking my mules thru the markets in each of the cities. I buy products from people who have no clue the worth of thier goods, things like dodo skin harnesses for 1000 gil. I put them on my character bazarr for 35k and sit outside the market ward whiel I go eat lunch for 30 minutes. Come back and I'm 34k richer. I buy so many misc mats from the markets where peopel sell them below what an NPC will buy them for. Some I keep, others I vendor and just take my profits.
The markets are a mess because people dont do thier research at all in this game yet. They dont know what they have and no clue what the value is. Half the people try and sell items worth 100 gil for 2000 gil so it just sits there. Others try and sell everything on thier retainer but refuse to move it from the middle of the crowded first ward where noone will look at it to the front of the 3rd ward will those items would sell in an hour. Seriously though, if you just take those 24 sheepskins off your retainer and put them on your character bazaar, sit down in the markets near the repair NPC for 30 minutes you'ld sell it all. Supply and demand, you go where the demand is for the product your selling, and you sell whats in demand. You actually have to interact with the economy in this game, its not a drop on the AH and forget mentallity like WoW. I know thats difficult for most to grasp.
Everyone wants to just go out and grind thier levequests and power level to end game, and thats just not how this game works. You are a part of the world, you have to interact with the world, and that included your fellow players. If your not, your not playing it right, and your going to hate it.
Is the map still a convulting mess?
Never was a 'convulted mess'. But way to show that you believe buzz words on reviews as fact. Do you even know what he was meaning when he said that or are you just repeeating it here for effect? The map works just fine, it is a roll out scroll map, it is not a user interface / location finding, everything in one, ZOMG where do I go now tool. Never was intended to be that. Its like rolling out a paper scroll on your desk and using it to GUIDE you on your travels. Its not a freaking GPS navigator with voice recognition. If you have a quest that requires you to go to a specific location, your journal will contain the location on its own map. If you can't figure out where it is telling you to go, then...well... then you just suck at being an explorer sorry. And again, your missing what this game is all about.
Are levequests still limited 8 to 36 hrs?
Why yes, yes they are. This is a problem? You do know that the levequests are NOT the game right? They are but a side line of it, something to do when yuo feel like doing one here and there. Ok look, here is the idea behind them, and I knwo you missed this, so many here have. The levequests are miscellaneous side chores given by the people in a community. They need some elm logs to build some waterwheels, they need some marmott pelts, they need some pies made. They are NOT the games content! Never were intended to be. I'm sorry that you missed that part and assumed that being given constant direction through thousands of random quests was what an MMORPG was. It isn't, really, never has been. That may be what an MMO has become, but the RPG part, yeah its not. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then your just proving my point here. Levequests are NOT the content in FFXIV, they are NOT intended to be what you do, only what you do, all the time. If you are trying to make this the case you are failing to play FFXIV correctly. <----truth
Is crafting still impossible because of the economy and high lvl mats needed?
Crafting is not broken, not at all, and definetly NOT impossible. You may not be able to make every item and ALL its components by yourself, but you can get the parts you cannot make on your own and put things together. If you are trying to solo this game, and be 100% self supportive on all crafts, than again, you are playing this game wrong. If you think it shouldnt' be the way it is, so sad, sorry, but it is. If you can't see the reasoning behind why it is built the way it is, that is just an intellectual shortcoming on your end, not a design flaw. <-----truth
Ok, so now I'm gonna sit back and wait for the reply on this, and all the name calling, the fanboi remarks, the your a fool remarks, the you dont know what your talking about remarks. I know they will be coming, I expect nothing less from most on these forums already. I swear the maturity level of the people on these forums drops daily. I get it, really I do, you dont see it the way I see it. Leave it at that and move along please.
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
What a ridiculous argument. Its a game, a form of media entertainment. As long as you actually pllayed the game and gave it your personal usual time that you would fairly give to any other then you are entitled to an opinioin.
The fact thta you quit the game beacuse it did not appeal to you makes your opinioin porobably more relevant than those that just grin and bear it.
After all, the point of making MMO's is to get AS MANY PEOPLE SUBSCRIBING AS POSSIBLE!!!!

Really? This is what you're going with? Basically you just said "Because you didn't like it, your opinion doesn't matter.". That's about the most fanboi thing I think I've ever seen posted, and I saw Geldon claim the Gamespot review was hacked onto their site. I give heavier weight to complaints then praise. If you were smart, you would too. Most of the time, it's the people who no longer have a vested interest in something that give you the most honest opinion. Would you rather have someone say "This car is GREAT! It looks awesome, it has an awesome stereo in it, but there is a tad problem turning left." or would you rather hear "The reason it has a hard time turning left is because it's missing a steering wheel. It also has problems going straight, turning right, generally not running into things, etc."?

I love hypocrites. I truly do. Mainly because they have no idea what they're actually do and just like to judge from on high. You bitch about maturity level yet say things like "and be 100% self supportive on all crafts, than again, you are playing this game wrong. If you think it shouldnt' be the way it is, so sad, sorry, but it is. If you can't see the reasoning behind why it is built the way it is, that is just an intellectual shortcoming on your end, not a design flaw.". Really? The person is an idiot for thinking that he should be able to craft anything on his/her own? So in FFXIV you don't gather resources? Wait I've seen videos showing that you do. So if you can get the raw resources logic should dictate that for most things you should be able to make on their own, sirely not everything but most. Its also interesting that you call this person an idiot even though you don't appear to be answering the question. Are too many high level materials needed to make crafting worth while? You're not answering the question anywhere.
But lets look at your other "mature" ramblings shall we? "My guess, you yelled and screamed and kicked your feet and said I HATE THIS and well...". They're asking if you have to zone into somewhere to sell stuff. The answer is yes. A few reviews have already shown that to be a flawed system, well maybe not the selling but the buying appears to be. But someone asks a question and you want to treat them like a toddler. From the simple question of whether there is an Auction House you respond "But then again, I make a crap ton of money off the current system because people like you are too lazy to use anything that takes more than 45 second of your time to use.". So because someone may want to do something really silly, like say look for 1 particular item without having to click on every character in the zone to find it, that equates to lazy? "Nope, not clunky at all - annoying, only to people with the attention span of a ferret.". Yes all those people at Gamespot or many other sites that professionally review games have attention spans of ferrets or otherwise can't understand the UI.
Its truly amazing that for someone who seems to think themselves mature, you make quite a bit of childish remarks. If you have that much of a problem conversing with people, seek professional help, or maybe just stay off message boards.

I dont hate this game but I do thing its poorly designed and very dull (and thats nothing to do with the ridiculous Hardcore debate).
To err is human....to play is divine
This reminds me so much of STO it isn't even funny. Did SE consult with Jack on this one? FFXIV has the all in one character like STO was supossed to have with the unlimited skill point system. Limited character slots for both with extra charges for more. At least SE held through and can justify to a certain degree limited slots. How much is the extra costs for more storage for characters really other than a cash grab.
Unfinished game with promises of a 1 month miracle patch. Both have questionably good graphics but gameis meh and lack of content. Is it all about box sales now then go F2P at some point to get another cash boost?
In best Khan voice "Damn You Cryptic!"
OP: Because Cataclysm doesn't come out till december.
Once that's out you'll see a general drop off in haters/trolls for 2 to 3 months then it'll go back to business as usual awaiting the next xpac.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7

If a person has that little money, they shouldn't be buying an MMO to begin with.
At OP:
It is not hate, most of us are gamers.
And this is not a WoW-friendly site. There is a Blizzard-forums. Most of us are WoW-survivors or have never played it.

Important facts:

(waiting for Lienhart)
5 years I drooled for a next gen MMO, coming off a good one (XI).
And we get this steaming pile of turd.
Yeah, I believe we do have the right to be bitter about it.
A good rule of thumb even for mmo's
MAGA
You all are just hopeless.

To err is human....to play is divine
I love hypocrites. I truly do. Mainly because they have no idea what they're actually do and just like to judge from on high. You bitch about maturity level yet say things like "and be 100% self supportive on all crafts, than again, you are playing this game wrong.
