I am going back to WoW....

spankybusspankybus Member UncommonPosts: 1,367

...no, seriously. I haven't played it in ages, but I figured, what the hell....the game I really want to play simply isn't ready yet.

I played FFXI for about two years, loved the game (except for waiting hours for a party in Jeuno). My life changed over the years. Got married, had a kid, got a career...etc...so FFXI simply wasn't playable for me anymore. Kinda Blew, but I don't regret the reasons.

So, I played WoW a few times...never maxed out a toon, never for long stretches...it was kind of like chewing gum to me. you know, something to do while I waited for something else to come out.

Then I read about all that was promised for FFXIV and i was STOKED! It's FFXI for people with a life! Wife and I bought 2 CE's in the hopes of being able to get some of that FFXI magic back....

...and we find ourselves quite disappointed :-( I don't have all day to shop for armor.  Bazaar system...OK, I get they don't want an AH, but then they admit the Bazaar system needs tools to make it easier to us....Once you add tools to it...It's basically an AH with a lot more walking!! Just give me the AH so I can hurry back to waiting another day to restart my Guild Levels!

then there is the UI...sure, FFXI UI was similar, but I've played games like WoW since then...games will a UI that blends into the game seamlessly....It's like writing with a pencil...i don't have to think about the pencil...i just write. FFXIV's UI is like writing with a turd...I can't stop thinking about the shit in my hand long enough to write anything useful!

The whole thing just smacks of arrogance on SE's part..like we will just love it because it's Final Fantasy. SE, you are not Squaresoft, you are a pale shadow of their past glory...

This is all very hard for me to write. We (Wife and I) are hard-core final fantasy fans. We got engaged at the 'Dear Friends, the music of Final Fantasy' concert in Atlanta. FFS, We had Final Fantasy Music at our wedding instead of traditional music (sad, I know lol). To us, Squaresoft's shit didn't stink.

But with Square Enix...we can only hold are nose for so long...then we have to run elsewhere and breathe!! SE...what happened to you.....SHAME on you for even considering this acceptable for release!

I really want to love this game, but it won't let me yet. So, I will go back to WoW to kill some more time while they fix this mess. I will be back once the serious issues have all been addressed. It something fun comes along, I might not. That's the chances you take when you blow your 'First Impression'

How the mighty have fallen :-(

    well said...my feeling exactly.

All but the going back to WoW part...lol...I tried and tried to like that game when I left ffxi...guess I'll put all my game hopes into the GW2 basket. Scary huh?  After what NCSoft did to Aion I'm so aftaid of what they'll do to GW2. *fingers crossed*

I have never played WOW in life and i find FFXIV to be tedious and broken even in terms of basic features. And yet FFXIV fans tell me to go back to WOW. But i never played WOW god damn it ;(

Felt the same way after the Beta for FFXIV. Got tired of LOTRO and now to pass the time going to try out WoW after 2 years. Hoping this will give me entertainment until GW2 or SWTOR come out.

I just wanted to share that you are not alone OP. 2ch, the largest online community of JP players has decided to go play WoW  to experience a "fun" MMO. There is a thread with over 800 replies. They've chosen Blackrock for Horde and Proudmore for Alliance. Add-ons have been made to help with the language barrier. So far, they are having fun and enjoying it.

It started with a thread where a member photoshoped funeral ceremonies with images of FFXIV. After that someone mentioned that they should play WoW. Later, a thread about exactly that got started and they decided to actually go play WoW.

    source:

FFXIVCore has a thread about it with links to the original 2ch articles if you can read Japanese I'd suggest checking those out for some laughs.

Not gonna take the time to translate from japanese, but i got a good chuckle out of the story. Good to know our friends overseas are essentially on the same page on this one. So many of us wanted to like it OP to the point of being stubborn, but it truly lacks substance. Beautiful on the outside, totally devoid of any soul and personallity on the inside under all the pretty graphics. SE has fallen far indeed. Bioware and Anet need to take notes and assure this mistake doesn't happen again. Both SWTOR and GW2 look amazing, I hope they both launch to meet and exceed expectations since the last few years have been such a stale time for MMO lovers with letdown after letdown.

I think half the people playing WoW are still playing because to them nothing better has come along.  I am not sure what will happen in 10 years from now if WoW is still the fall back game.  I know graphics dont make a game but WoW has to be getting really bad at this point.  Of course, people still play UO so who knows.

I don't even care if WoW remains the "top-dog." I just want a decent alternative to be released. I thought FFXIV would be a decent game, but I was mistaken. In terms of graphics, WoW's graphics have aged pretty well in my eyes. FFXIV is graphically stunning but look where it is right now. Graphics mean absolutely nothing when there's very little that the game does right.

If the Japanese Final Fantasy fanbase is complaining and going to play WoW you know something is wrong. If I worked at SE as a general grunt my ass would be puckered right about now. I'd be looking for a new job. The thing with SE is they don't really give two shits about what their customers want, and they probably think that this game is actually good. From a business perspective, I wouldn't doubt if they were pretty happy with box sales alone.

What an utter dissapointment. Sure glad I wasted $75 on this piece of shit. If GW2, Tera, TOR, and Rift fail to deliver and I find myself wanting to go back to WoW, I will give up on this genre entirely.

    edit:

"mmm now wow is for very casual gamers. you can got the TIER without skill, if you want join in guild you only need high gearscore without skill"

WoW appeals to all kind of gamers from hardcore to casual. I'm sure you've done the hard content when it was relevant. Actually, strike that, you probably did nothing but farmed heroics for badge gear, wiped in TOC25, and claim to everybody that WoW is easy-mode. Here's something you may not realize -- none of these games are incredibly difficult from a personal skill standpoint. Somehow, people got "hard" mixed up with "extremely time consuming."

Maybe I didnt make what I was saying clear but it had nothing to do with your response.  All I was meaning was I hope something comes along soon so WoW is not everyones fall back game.

Agreed with OP to, Squaresoft made some of the best games in my eyes but FFxiv isnt even in the same league, WoW has been my fall back game for a while now and i'll be going back too just like when STO, War, Aion failed. Fingers cross that GW2 doesnt fail or SE sorts FFxiv out.

ps. sure glad i wasted money on the CE

Wait till the 30 days are over and see if you still get that queue.

Same thing happened in AoC and Aion - First month = large queues, First paid month = little to no queues, Second paid month = no queues. Third month and on = low pop servers and merges.

Though with SE being smart and only have under 20 servers for the entire world to play on, I doubt there will be merges.

Thing is right now you have everyone playing out their free time + the buddy codes. If SE can't get a lot of the issues pinned down by the start of the first billing cycle they will lose a lot of those players.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

Playing FFXIV almost made me want to start playing WoW....almost. Instead I'll go back to LotRO.

"I'm going back to Wow" must be some kind of catch phrase, I hear it a lot in this forum...

Anyways, don't get a MMO when it releases, wait a year afterwards instead. You wouldn't even been so happy with Wow at launch either, it had bugs and you had to wait in line to even log in... Not that it is an excuse for this of course but put the game away until next year and then you can consider trying it again.

For sure....I'm gonna play till the 22nd too...the free period isn't up yet.  I'm sure the servers will be busy till then.

My fall back game will be guildwars.  I still have a buncha stuff to do there before the release of GW2.  Sure hope NCSoft didn't hire any of the programmers from SE...ya know the ones with the crazy ideas about what they think a good game should be. ^^

Personally, I look at WoW and WoW clones as a totally differnt kind of game as FFXIV.  So, if you prefer WOW-style games, hey, stick to what you like.  Seriously.

I agree with OP, and Kevin VanOrd's Gamespot review. You guys both nailed it down for me on how I feel about this game.

Nobuaki Komoto's E3 interview makes me puke! "We learn from our pass mistakes", "Lots of character development through questing"  Blah...Blah..Blah...FFXIV is 2 step backwards from FFXI...How do you even do that???

A lot of the same complaints about FFXIV were addressed by beta players and SE did nothing to fix any of the problems before launch. Makes me really wonder if they actually even care about their players or the community.

Oh...where is that  FFXIV funeral being held at???

Considering it was a photoshopped FFXIV event, I guess it's being held wherever you can imagine it is.

Looks like the same guys took the time to count the player server population online at one period of time and came up with 40k.  Knowing that people online during one time of the day account for about 1/10th of the overall playerbase (rough estimate based on the average Vana'Diel Census report), looks like FFXIV is sitting pretty at about 400,000 subscriptions right now.  Not bad, I was expecting about half that much.

Im actually now playing Aion and up to Level 25...its a pretty good game...after playing FFXIV, any game is a good game.  I no longer care about the grind in Aion or the fact that it can be linear at times....it's actually a pretty decent game and Im having a blast.
