Hmmm, I must be playing a different Eve, I play the one where they have to patch the patch, of the patch, that broke the game...

The game that has a whole team of devs just working on streamlining it's bloated code.

The one where certain people I play with have to relog or restart,  because their overview or modules just plain quit working...

The game, that not a week goes by, that there isn't someone screaming on comms that they just lost a ship to some weird bug, lagg or glitch...

Where do I find this stable, bug free version of Eve?

Really, Eve fanbois, I think your confusing "updating their game engine(going from V.2 to V.3 freeware or something, probably)", with starting from scratch on a whole new game engine...

As far as updating the graphics, I really dont see the point of it, there really aint much to the graphics in Eve. Aside from the space backdrops, it could be wireframe models for all I care, I wouldn't notice...

Show me another MMO, where patches run perfectly, or where there's no client-crashes etc etc etc... EvE isn't any worse or better then all other MMOs outthere in that regard.

What EvE offers however is, that there's 2 expansions every year, and they're are for free. CCP does add content constantly and allthough you might not be interested in some of the stuff they add, it's stuff other players are interested in.

Wormholes where said to be a waste of time and still thousands of people do enjoy it these days.
Factional warfare is the same. You just have to look around and see how many people use this content... it's thousands again.
Most recently when Planetary Interaction was added, people asked why... and still lots ad lots of people use it today, allthough it's lot's of clicking. It's an industrial feature and industry-players don't have this big problem with it actually.

I'm a five year old alliance-warfare veteran and I've got 3 accounts to cover all the stuff like industry, PvE and PvP and there's actually no other MMO outthere, where there's as many options to play around with as in EvE Online.

If you're only interested in PvP then you should play another game tbfh.

will my ati radeon 5770 run this new version?

  • QuizzicalQuizzical Member LegendaryPosts: 25,483

To clarify this, shader model 3.0 or later means DirectX 9.0c or later.  DirectX 9.0c launched in 2004, so that is already very old.  For an Nvidia card, that means GeForce 6000 series or later.  (Three digits is later, unless it's an ancient GeForce 256.)  For an ATI card, this means Radeon X1000 series or later.  Radeon HD anything is later, but Radeon with neither an X nor an HD is earlier.  Earlier Radeon X series cards should have supported DirectX 9.0c, too, but ATI messed up.  For Intel, this means... wait a minute, why would anyone try to play games on Intel's graphics that basically don't work?

    Yes Chackz, it will.

And as for the rest of the post. I gotta couple of lols out of most of these replies. Gotta love pc gamers who complain about upgrading their systems.

You can get a video card that supports DirectX 9.0c really cheaply:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125336

Now, that's not a very good card, and most of the people worried about whether they'll be able to run the game probably already have something better.  But my point is, you don't need a very good card to cope with the changes.

Someone who does need to upgrade would probably be better offer off going with a cheap gaming card like one of these:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130533

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102871

If the system was old enough to not have a DirectX 9.0c card already, then either of those would be fast enough to be processor- or memory-bound in most games.

As people have already said SM3 should be available for any pc based graphics card under 4-6 years ago basically anything that is Dx 9c compat and if your playing games (eve is a game btw) you should be okay.

Me i'm really happy ccp is doing this always looking to see more shiny and better performance

No amount of shader model versions can make up for their crappy GUI design.

There's nothing wrong with the GUI.

When are they going to make land oriented player bases or for that matter space based that you can fly to and try to take control/destroy?  Dock your ship and run into the actual base with weapons on your toon?  Beam inside and fight for control of the sheild generator which would allow other ships to destroy it?  Those kinds of things would make the game a lot more interesting than the current model of who has the biggest/most advanced ship.  I played for several months and tried to get into it but found the gameplay bland beyond description and repetative to the point of nausia.

That's what Dust 514 is for, to run around with your toon shooting at others.

Ugh. Methinks I procrastinated too long.  Been about half finished with my 'new' system for over a year now but just never got around to finishing it.  My 4+ year-old 17" Dell laptop (connected to my 55" HDTV) is running the Mobile Intel 945 Express chipset which is NOT SM3 compatable (it is 9c compatable though btw) and not upgradeable obviously.  Time to get off my arse and get the danged thing completed. image
