Guild Wars is for grown Ups The Baby Boomer Game!!!

Has anybody noticed that 80% of the Guild Wars community seem to be over 30. The Baby Boomers Game!
Yes there are some of the younger crowd in the game but not the normal Majoriety like other MMORPG's. I spent the last three weeks going to and from almost 30 different forums that are Guild Wars centered. Everybody in these forums have been talking about this same subject. I noticed this also durring the last beta weekend where only people with the pre-order were in the game. There wasn't the group of PC's running around trying to impress everybody else.
Please EVERYBODY under 30 don't take offence at what I say here, it isn't ment to cut you down or make you look stupid. There are alot of very mature 18 to 30 year olds in the game also but, what I'm saying is on most of these forums the adverage age is 44. There were close to 35% of the forum members between the ages 45 to 60, I'm 52.

Right now if you join a WoW game site or play the game on line your going to find alot of fighting amoung the players because one player is stealing the treasures that belong to the group, or everybody want to be the leader and nobody wants to follow anybody Also Blizzard is already kicking players off servers for using cheats they have made and are using to make Uber Characters or because of bad language.
There wasn't and hasn't been anything like that in the GW Beta weekends.
There are servers for WoW that are over loaded with major LAG problems and then again there are servers with only 5 or 6 players that just stand and stare at each other wondering where everyboby else is . My son of 22 plays WoW so I have seen this first hand.
In Guild Wars there seems to be a more mature and grown up attitude between the players. Much more team work and purpose than any other MMOG I have ever played.

Does anybody else or has anybody else noticed the difference in what I'm starting to call the game of games.
21 Days until the adventure begins!!!

Most mmo'ers are over 18-24 [college years]. It is an illusion that most mmo'ers are kids.

Well, seeings how the average player for Guild Wars is about 45+, anyone around the age of 20 still would seem a little young.

Though I agree that this is a game for those of the older generation, you'll still find a few Gen. X'ers of there ::::39::

I didn't say that their wasn't alot of young people playing GW! I read that Guild Wars has sold some 200,000 pre release copies of the game That makes 160,000 over the age of 30 and 40,000 copies sold to those of you from age 8 to 30.
The adverage age of WoW players is somewhere around the age of 17 and below where only 20% are over the age of 30.
In the past 6 months I have turned Guild wars on to more than 50 of my friends over 45 and some of them were rivals from my old PnP RPG gaming days.
No matter how old you are Guild wars is going to bring alot of good people together and those that joined early will be able to be part of the revolution of Free gamers. No more monthly fees, no more waiting for servers to come back on line while the web master is at work or school. No more Patch Days when 90% of the players have to wait in line to get the patch for hours and hours because of the rush of players all trying to download at the same time and causing so much lag that only 6 to 35kb a second can be sent to each player. The number one reason people will want to be part of GW other than free on-line will be the cheat free inviroment that the programers have made for us.
No matter who you are or how old you are when you play you will get the feeling you belong there and thats what I like, evreybody playing together in teams and Guilds all with the same goal "To Be The Best"

How many preorders did WOW have?

I'm not sure about the average age of players in this game, but I have also noticed a much more 'mature' attitude in this game compared to any other MMO type of game that I have played in the past. I think the strategy/tactical aspect in this game is what scares all of the younger players away... I mean, they just know that running around collecting l00t and uber items will not help them win in this game :) I guess we shall see if that changes after retail is released!

P.S. I also heard that GW broke the record in pre-sales and that they obtained more buyers than WOW and EQ2 combined! (THATS HUGE for a new company) but im not sure about the numbers...

Where did you read that? I haven't seen any sales numbers of GW so far.

It is comenly know that most poeple who just reach puberty are annoying (not all.....i never was anoying...or i have not yet reached puberty :P) You see that in every game not only mmorpg. Take for example CS. I like to play Guild wars as the comunity is great. I have not yet preorder is as i do not know where i can do that in the Netherlands, but i'm sure i'm going to buy it.

I vote for a new law in the world.....You may not play online until you are out of puberty and mature...... who votes yes :P

It's good to hear there will be at least one game for mature people to play. I'm not as old as some here but I find alot of games are over run by kids how don't seam to understand civility. This game is starting to look better and better all the time image,

its actually a bit weird that GW has an avarage of about 40 years, i first thought that it would be packed with those annoying kids because its free.. but i was wrong and glad that i was wrong, even though i'm 13 (14) i dont like those annoying kids who think they are cool because they are swearing and stuff like that,, (maybe why i dont like half of my school)::::31::

My friend works for game stop in Los Angeles California. He said that Guild wars has sold 680,000 pre order games world wide that 3 times what WoW had sold in total pre sales and Guild Wars was projected to sell 2,000,000 copies befor july first. That will make gross sales for Arena 100 million U.S. Dollars for their first game.

thats because the only way to get into the beta weekends is by preordering it.cant just sign up.i know thats why i preordered it.im of age 14,and i can see why adults would assume teens/kids as a whole are immature on mmo's,because ive seen it so much as to expect half of my play time to be dominated my ppl being retards.i just urge those adults who think all kids are immature on games to not let the actions of the many(immature teens/kids) undo the actions of the few(mature teens/kids)who are actually trying to make a good name for young gamers

I and quite a few friends whom are all in the 35 -38 age range with our 2.5 kids recently retired from StarWars Galaxies after a considerable period of rehabilitation, and we agree that this past Beta Weekend 15th-18th April was just amazing, and due to the mission style in the game I cannot percieve how anyone could spoil the game for me, but I would think due to the lack of monthy payment via visa or whatever you have in your wallet, I think we may get a very large age range once this goes live, I also beleive that this one will apeal more to the ladies, I have already had to pre order a copy for my wife as she likes the play style and has no interest in PvP or the possiblity of PvP, I think the Death system also apeals to her due the grind actually not being a grind but a progressive story line simular to diablo.

Where as I look forward to getting slaughtered by the KOR guild

I am 15 years old and consider myself to be a mature gamer. I am interested in a more detailed game, and GW seems like its what i want.

I just retired from WoW. It is very easy to reach level 60, and I got tired of the immature audience and cartoon-like graphics. GW seems great, and I am considering pre-ordering it, but would that be worth it, sinse the game is comming out in 3 days? What are the benefits of pre-ordering it?

  • maharbamaharba Member Posts: 44

I quit WoW partialy because of kids my age being snobby and swareing or whatever because they can't loot everything. I remember i some kid bragging to me because he passed me in his level, which i guess just proves that i still have a life. I guess i shouldn't call him a kid because we're both the same age, but then again i and a lot of other people cosider myself mature for my age.

But this is a reason i hate playing MMORPGs, because it can be a great game and i can be having a good time RPing with some people, but then some kid ruins my gaming experience with his 1337 speak or whatever. I think they should just have like a test before you can play the game, or a server strictly for leetspeak kids.

Anyways back on topic, i think i should look into getting GW, i mean no subscription, and a more mature community.

Thats the thing. You don't know if you are annoying or not commonly, and you cant say, "im not annoying" because other people decide if you are annoying to them or not, and frequently people who are annoying don't think they are.
