World of Warcraft: Class Mechanics Changes Outlined

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

As the time for the World of Warcraft Cataclysm expansion nears, Blizzard is preparing to launch the 4.0.1 patch. Part of the upcoming patch launches the announced class mechanics changes. The official forums have been updated with a post outlining some of the more significant class alterations coming when 4.0.1 deploys.

Warlocks

Soul Shards

  • As items, Soul Shards are going away entirely.

  • Any shard bags used to store Soul Shards will automatically be converted into a bag of roughly equal value.

  • Soul Shards are now a new resource for warlocks. Each warlock will have a total of three. These Soul Shards can be expended using a new spell, Soul Burn, which allows the warlock to augment the next spell cast. The augmentation effect will vary depending on which spell is used, and all warlock spells which can be empowered by Soul Burn will have a tooltip listing of the effect it grants. Soul Shards will no longer be necessary for summoning demons or casting any other spell typically used when out of combat.

Read the full list class-by-class on the official forums.

Played on the test server and Warlocks are great now =)  Got rid of that lame old soul shard system.

I`m glad they made this change but yeah I would also like a new demon the originals have gotten old. Or at least upgrade their appearance.

Lol ya hunters can changes pets when ever, Warlocks should have some sort of list of skins/avatars to use as their deamon type.

this is what we ABSOLUTELY WANT.

a new demon that looks like Lord Jaraxxus or an Avatar of Sathal. it's primary power is to morph, for a short ammount of time, into an exact copy of your current target (enemy player) wile mimiking all the moves your target is doing on you. so if you are fighting a warrior your demon turns into an exact copy of that particular warrior and uses, against it's target, the same skills the player warrior is using against you. HELL YEA!

do it Blizz. i will lover you unconditionally for ever.....or untill you buff rogues that is.

Admittedly I have not played WoW since the 1st Qtr of the year, but uh - the thing about the Death Knights... they decided to make a dedicated tanking tree and chose Blood?

I had to lol at that.

    Frost Tanks.

    Unholy Tanks.

But no, let's get rid of that... make Blood the Tank.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

Why not simply allow Locks to go dominate demons in the way that Hunters tame pets, eh?

With so many unique resources to get use to, it's gonna feel like a new game when Cata comes. Also all the new mechanics seems to personally fit the classes now, making them seem a lot more specialized. I may have to re-sub just to give things a proper workout before the X-pac hits

The Druid mechanic sounds kind of like Runekeepers from LOTRO. I don't really care for WoW one way or the other, but I'm intrigued.

well.....they can change the game about a zillion times but the community still stays the same....thats why i am no longer subbed to wow after 5 years.

    Wow = good

    Wow community = bad

people ruined the game for me by adding gear scores and such.

    too bad.

wow.. by looking at WoW 's official forums there are plasters wtih people hating the new changes in the patch.. LOL  It looks like a 90/10 split of people not liking it.. especially the mages, pallys and priest, and squishy hunters, and.. oh hell.. NO ONE likes it.. LOL

I wonder how long it will take before Blizzard backtracks and reverts a little to the OLD class.. I love the one post that someone said if they mouse over their health bar, it says "if your health drops to zero, you're dead" or something like that.... ha ha ha.. WTF?   Has the game dumbed down that much to tell people what happens when the health bar is at Zero?  lol

LMAO...nobody likes it?  Really now?   You take a few QQ'ing post on the main forums to deduce that 90% of the players hate it?  Wow...just wow...no pun intended.

Blood always made the best tank and anyone that says different is clueless.   This new system BLizzard put in and making Blood the spec for tanks is awesome.   Finally we have a tank spec that can stand shoulder to shoulder with Pallies and Warriors.    I love my Blood Tank more than ever...she can seriously lay the smack down and hold agro like never before.

All I can say is be prepared to relearn your class and playing of it. I think many thought this was going to make playing more push-button for those that don't take the time to learn to play their class. Just the oposite. You may be trying to figure out what you need now and such but now you have to learn what spells or abilities to use and when in order to be efficeint with your class and roll.  Some that are one or two spell casters are going to have to do more.
