Giving Up WOW

HmrheadHmrhead Member Posts: 5

So I have been playing WOW since BC.  Its the first MMO I ever played and up until yesterday, it was really fun.  I won't open up the troll-fest as to my reasons for leaving because it isn't productive.  I will just say that I believe Blizz is pursuing a player base that doesn't include me.  SO.  Anyway

As I said, I have never played any other MMO, and I am a bit ignorant to all that is available.  I am hoping that if I post some things I am looking for, someone will have some good suggestions.

1.  I keep a weird work schedule.  I like being in a guild and grouping, but I also like there to be plenty of solo content to do when guildies aren't around.

2.  I enjoy PVP but it's not something I look for or even find fulfilling to my gaming experience.  It's kinda like green beans.  I will eat it if it's there, but its not something I will go out of my way to look for.

3.  I enjoy questing and maybe even a little bit of grinding. (Yes I got the insane achievement for all you WOW grinders.)

4.  I like to have a little variety.  Sometimes I like to heal.  Sometimes I like to pew pew til my eyes bleed.

5.  I have a new Gateway FX with quad core and gx260 video card. (while I have no idea what any of that means, i have discovered that it can be important.)

So ultimately, I guess I am looking for something more PVE oriented with plenty of raiding content as well as soloing content.  Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  ;-) Thanks! Enjoy your day.

    Hey man,

Glad to hear!  As far as this Fall-Winter is concerned, there's quite the MMO-drought this season.  If possible, hold out till 2011 to find something worth playing.  Right now a lot of MMO's are trying to do everything they can do lure in more players while next-gen MMO's are being released.

If you don't mind the game being heavily instanced, Vindictus is worth a shot (it's in open beta right now I believe).  But other than that, I'd wait until 2011.

You should read up on GuildWars 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic, RIFT: Planes of Telara, TERA, Earthrise, DC Universe Online, and The Secret World.  These are all different genres of MMO's but a good portion of them are set to come out next year.  WoW is the cream of the crop right now so stuff that's currently out might leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

Free Lotro is a good bet. Solid game and no monthly fee.

I highly recommend Lord of the Rings Online. It is an awesome PVE game that will really draw you into to its world. With it being free to play for about the first 20 levels there is no harm in giving it a try to see if it suits you.

Agreed.   Def. Go with Lord of the Rings for PvE.   If that isn't your style and you're looking for something with more depth, EverQuest 2 is also decent.  I've not played it in about 6 months, so I'm not sure of recent changes, but prior to that, the game was fun!

Just reading between the lines here, wondering if your issue is Community. Speaking for myself, it's a major detractor for me and what keeps me from enjoying the game, in addition to the hamster-wheel. If so, then definitely try LOTRO. The community is awesome. They are having a big sale right now so this would be a good time to join up and buy points/questpacks. If you like to switch between dps and healing, I recommend the Rune-keeper as they can do either.

As for me, I am giving Guild Wars another shot at the moment. Been years since I played it.

Lotro is probably the best straight up pve themepark I ever played. I say this and I'm only at mid level I'n the game and I have near 14 years experience in this genre. I will admit however that being a brand new Ex-Wow player you may have a hard time adjusting to it's slower combat system.

The Hunter is probably the easiest class to start with. The Runekeeper is capable of major DPS or excellent healing depending on the role you choose to play and can switch between roles within about 10 seconds.

If you're into crafting then choosing the Explorer profession gives you two collection (woods and metal ores) and one creation (Tailoring) skills.  Most of the character classes use armor (light & medium) that a tailor can make. Keep any tin you find.
