    I voted GW2.

Top Five Features that Inspire Me to Pre-Order

1- A proven track record from the developer that shows concern for quality and completion

2- The "vibe" I get from the beta or open beta (no, I don't count simple bugs AGAINST the game when in beta)

3- The company doesn't obviously "over promise," making it impossible to do anything BUT under deliver.

4- The game premise and features appeal strongly to my style of play, and therefore I'm pretty convinced I'll be willing to "stick it out" just in case the first couple of months are a bit "bumpy." If that's the case....I want in early so I can "get the jump" on learning the game and whatever unique things I might need to grasp right off...like a new UI, how to make macros, stuff like that.

5- I have to have the money TO pre-order without it putting a strain on my wallet....pretty simple that one.

EDIT: These are five GENERAL reasons that are not specific to only GW2...they're more my "mental run through" before making the decision on any game.

I voted choice not listed. IMO it's a poor choice to pre-order, you have very little idea what you're actually getting, and only helping to line the pockets of advertisers that are better at tricking you.

also voted not listed.. although its this year the only game i would currently preorder is Cataclysm, for the others i'll wait until they've been out a while before deciding if i'll even buy them.. preordering is not even a consideration.image

All of them, remains to be seen which ones I actually subscribe to though.

Except for GW2, which will be a buy without much thought, simply because it is F2P after one month, I try to get into every open Beta for 5 Euro and evaluate things in 3 or 4 days.

It is by far the cheapest way to test out the new games.

I stopped making "real" pre orders after my CE of AoC. There is a quite large useless box that grins at me every time I climb to my attic.

And every time I am tempted to grab a new MMO from the shelves I think of it.

It made me save around 250 Euro per year.

Edit : Oh And I forgot: Blizzard is the exception of course. I'll buy whatever they launch whenever they launch.

Guild wars 2 is the only game I would ever pre order, as it is the only developer currently that I have confidence in releasing a finished polished product at the time of release. I do not " pre- order" at all for that very reason. Anet would be the first I would give that honor to.

I am a stickler for customer service and quality product. I usually give games time before I try them for that reason. I wait until " grand openings" before visiting a store. They better be prepared for me, or I do not return. image

Pre-ordered SW:TOR the other day. Still play through KOTOR and KOTOR2 fairly often so it's a no brainer for me. I'm not even bothered how "MMO like" the finished product is, I'd buy it if it was single player.

  • UsualSuspectUsualSuspect Member UncommonPosts: 1,243

I don't ever pre-order, I wait to check out reviews and comments before buying. I've been caught too many times by hype and advertising that made a poor game sound great, that I'd rather not take the risk anymore.

I think the reason Cataclysm isn't listed, is because technically...it's not a game...it's an expansion.

AND....am I the only person that felt like doing what the OP asked and listing 5 things that WOULD get you to pre-order?  Or did no one else read the OP's whole post?

Edit: Nvm....I do see that Arnstrong listed also, just didn't number them, so I missed it.

I NEVER pre  order as advertising and hype are 90% lies or lies of ommision.

That Cohan one is a good example.

I prefer to wait till six months after generall release then i look at it and see how its going.

I have yet to see one that fits my likes that would take me from what i am doing now tho right now i have 2 i am watching with some mild interest.

Guildwars 2 [the combat mechanics are different and it  has a big fanbase, and looking at WoW with its bugged and broken beginnings we can see just what a loyal fanbase can do for a MMO'S life expectancy].

Darkfall [Yea i know netherless with expansions and a loyal [some would say insane] fanbase and some big asperations it may be a suprise success].

Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981

    My choice is not listed..

I think it would be stupid to pre-order ANY MMO. I've seen too many to be fooled again by marketing. I for one am waiting for reviews for my MMO of choice (TERA), and then I'll decide if the quality justify my money.

Pre-ordering is for the kind of people P. T. Barnum was talking about when he made his famous comment about birthrate.

    Guess:

    1) It's B2P. Why not?

    2) PvP 3 factions.

    3) Lore

    4) Combat

    5) Art

Edit: Aim to buy From Dust day 1 also.

None.  After buying Tabula Rasa, Warhammer Online, and Aion, I'll never order another MMO again.  I'll wait until they come out with at least a 14 day free trial.  The last three MMO's I bought taught me some hard lessons about managing my game money.  I don't believe any of the hype anymore.  It's always the same old bullshit.  Watch Guild Wars 2 fizzle after the game comes out and has to actually deliver on their stratospheric promises.  Just remember, fellow gamers, there is no "magic pill game" out there that will solve all your entertainment problems.  And don't take the hype out there with just a pinch of salt, take it with a handful of salt - all the hype will go down better that way.

None, I never pre-order.  In fact, I refuse to play any game that hasn't been "in the wild" for at least 4-6 months.  That way, I know what I'm getting, there are plenty of reviews and they have time to fix all of their launch bugs.

If companies are counting on me to pre-order, they're out of luck.

Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, Aion, Allods, lots more
Relatively Recently (Re)Played: HL2 (all), Halo (PC, all), Batman:AA; AC, ME, BS, DA, FO3, DS, Doom (all), LFD1&2, KOTOR, Portal 1&2, Blink, Elder Scrolls (all), lots more
    Now Playing: None
    Hope: None

Waiting awhile is probably the smarter move instead of pre-ordering in most instances.

That said, availability of an open marketing beta or trial can change that for me.  Gives the chance to see if the game fits your style and if the early faults are not too execrable.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Nothing.... I don't pre-order. That policy has paid off for me multiple times given the hype vs reality of software products these days.

I will probably pickup GW2 though...unless the reviews are absolutely horrid.

I'm going to try for Open Beta of Dark Millenium..... but I won't purchase site unseen.

I would never preorder, especially for a game that is doesn't have a good predecessor, so none of these games I would preorder. Heck I like SC1 and didn't preorder SC2, I guess it's because I don't become a super fan of anything.

If something was able to make me preorder it, it would be such a super hit, not just in gaming history, but history in general.

Voted Star Wars: The Old Republic.

    1. BioWare, a game developer i respect greatly.

    2. I'm an ex SWG player (only quit recently since i started in early/mid 2005)

    3. Story driven content enspires me more than running around looking for something to do.

    4. I'm a fan of the KotOR games and the chance to play KotOR 3+ online is my cup of tea.

    5. Can't stand the other options on the market or announced.

    -never preorder, ever.

-never do a lifetime membership because 99.999% of the people will never get their money back from it and it takes away your ability to vote with your wallet.

-always wait for the free trial before trying a game so that you don't risk wasting money on something that you can't stand after 5 minutes.
