Hi there as you can see by my post count I am new to the site here.. but i just had a question, as a person who primarily plays first person shooters and some sports game, what kind of a learning curve should i expect with this game, I mean it looks beautifal , I did'nt get to play in the beta events ( i bought it the day after the last ones) and what kind of pace does the game move at....I know the game looks as sweet as can be and I do have some friends that I will be playing it with , but i just want to know this being my first mmorpg should i expect to slow my pace of gaming style down some to accomadate guild wars... ok so it was like 15 questions but hey.. i'm a noob...

Yo, I play cs and all these fps games and learning this game is very easy. Guild Wars is just like WoW learning curve. So def try this game out and see how you like it
Sup, man? Well, let me say that I played in all the BW's and this game is AWESOME... I play mostly this genre of games, but a buddy of mine who does not QUICKLY picked up the basics. This game is not BASIC in any meaning of the word, but it is VERY user friendly. If you have a group you are going to play with that is kewl, but try adventuring by yourself for a little while also....this will help you get a feel for the game.
Well, that's my 2 cents, hope it helped...peace out
We were all new at one point or another, so don't worry about it.
GW is a bit slower than sports games and FPS like Doom, Timesplitters, GoldenEye, etc. However, I think some slowdown is to be expected - right? Those games are localized to PC's and consoles, and there's no real data transfer rates involved outside of that locale. However, IMO Guild Wars is one of the fastest MMORPG's (please, lets not get into the debate about if it's an MMORPG again!) out there right now.
As for learning curve.. I'm not sure, since this would be your first MMO. All I can say is that one of my friends used my girlfriend's pass for a beta weekend, and I expected her to have a little adjustment period to the game. She's not an MMO newbie, but close enough. However, she picked it up right away. Aside from a few tips I gave her to start off she figured everything out for herself.
Advice: Play in the Pre-searing (Lush green) world for awhile, until you feel comfortable in combat. Everything in that world is soloable without any real skill involved (in my opinion), but once you get into Post-Searing Ascalon you'll probably want to at least be in a duo when you venture into combat. Soloing is definitely possible (I did it several times), but a bit slower than you need to go.
Keep in mind that my game time was 90% duo-ing (me and a partner) so the game would get faster as you add more people to your group (in theory).
Once you get in-game if you have any questions drop a line, and I'd be glad to help you out. I'm sure that goes for most players, as I found the community to be pretty helpful on the whole.

My background is a lot like yours. This is the first MMO type game I will have played. I've really enjoyed the BWE's I've attended. My suggestion is to start with a Warrior as it's play style is clearly of the FPS/action type genre. As you progress through the levels, you'll start to learn how to incorporate skills and how to allocate your attribute points, to make your Warrior even more effective. Once you get your feet wet, and get a better understanding of the attribute/skill/crafting/user interface system, you'll have the baseline knowledge to play one of the more difficult characters, or you can stay with the Warrior.
You'll have fun!
