What are the most content rich MMO's?

Which MMO's keep me busy with discovery and stories the longest of them all?

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

    Everquest.

    Everquest 2.

A couple years back, SOE went through and removed some of the low level content.  Not because it was bad, but because they claimed there actually was too much content.  If I remember correctly, they claimed that new players were being overloaded and were having a hard time focusing on what to do next.

I don't have anything to back up my statement here, but I am pretty sure EQ2 has more quests than any game out.  Looking at my main on the website right now and I see I have 1,772 quests complete.  I have not even subscribed to the game for more than a month since the Rise of Kunark expansion (2 expansion packs ago), and when I did leave I wasn't even close to having all the quests done  Now that is a lot of content.

The moment I read "It's like" or "WoW" is the moment I stop reading your post.

Most likely Everquest 2, although content quantity doesn't guarantee content quality. Good feature it has is that you can turn off EXP and just go around exploring world while still doing quests and stuff.

Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.

I find Asheron's call to be the most rich in terms of content. Every much they introduce new quest chains, story arcs, and just boat loads of new content.  They have only had a few expansions (compared to EQs bajillion) but each month brings something new and exciting.

If you can get past the aged graphics the game is truly amazing.  I'm still dreaming for an AC3 or another MMO that takes what makes AC great!

I have to agree with EQ2. You can blow a lot of time trying to do everything in that game.

EQ2 stands out in my mind as having an astounding breadth and depth of content. It's really it's strength.

You honestly never log in without something to do on the menu.

    EQ2 i would say.

EQ2 if you like Quest Grinder MMOs.

EQ1 if you like old-school MMOs.

EQ 1 has a ridiculous amount of content. I'm actually pretty pumped. Around January, there is supposed to be a new EQ1 server opening up, with time locked expansions. So it's basically like starting EQ1 all over again, and moving between each expansion as if they were released at different times. Hopefully they don't release a new expac like every month though, should have at least 5-6 months between them.

Asheron's Call does free monthly updates that add content. They've done somthing like 120+ of those at this point. There is an insane amount of content and it would take you a long time to run every quests/explore every place.

They've also been updating the rewards/xp of the old quests over the past year to make them more worthwhile to run.

I have a different opinion about EQ2. I agree that EQ2 has a ridiculous number of quests, and if the "number of quests" was the best way to rank mmo's that are content rich, then yeah EQ2 would probably win.

But I don't think that number of quests should be the determining factor in that question. EQ2 suffers from having too few zones to play in. The zones are too small in size in my opinion, and very compacted and linear. There is a monster every 4 feet because the zones aren't big enough to have them spread out. The zones do have some incentive to go out and explore, but the feeling just isn't as grand as it could be. You can't get very far without reaching the end of a particular area. Exploration hits a dead end pretty quick no matter where you are, and there seems to be little reward for exploring most of the time. Also, travel is instant and quick much of the time, which can make the game world seem smaller than it actually is.

So I would argue that EQ2 is the most content rich game out there in terms of quests only, but instead I'd pose the question like this. Which mmorpg on the market is the most content rich, where content rich means continent and zone size, ability of the game to cause immersion and a feeling that you are living in a huge expansive environment, a game where you can spend months and months in and still feel like there are places to go and wildernesses you can explore. In EQ1, it would take hours to traverse the world. In SWG when it first came out, my friends and I went to some far corner of Tatooine and played in that region by ourselves for quite some time. It was a world which had not only a ton of content, but a world where you could get lost in that content as well. EQ2 doesn't fit that bill to me. I'd ask, what other games do?

This is easy... EQ1.  VG and WoW would be up there too.

EQ2 really is low content.  More than LotRO but no where near lots.

Landmass size has nothing to do with content density. Your getting the two confused.

It's very common to have huge empty landmasses in a game, but this dosent equal content. Nor is EQ2's content defined by quests... you havent played it in any depth if you consider that the case.

I've been playing EQ2 since launch on and off including having SF capped toons.  Its a small game.  Really no way around it.  Low zone count, low dungeon count, low raid count... even lower when you consider the amount of actually playable dungeons/raids for people not in top raiding guilds.  Does have a ton of solo quests and little instances but then so does CoX and I wouldn't consider that high content either.  EQ1, VG and WoW have real high zone counts, real high accessible dungeon counts, EQ1/WoW have a high accessible raid count.

Even today EQ2 only has 27 zones.  EQ1 and VG have hundreds.  Outside of RoK, zones in EQ2 are small too.  The dungeons that are there other than the end game people only run RoV, RE, CT, SoS... and whatever RoK ones you need for epic.  TSO even now is limited to a handful of the zones for most and SF dungeons more so.  The Hole is on a level of suck all its own.  Long and short of it... DoF good, KoS bad, EoF great, RoK excellent, TSO ok, SF bad.  Fingers crossed Velious brings EQ2 back on track.  Meantime I'm playing VG and bitching about how XP comes to a crawl at 45+ :p
