I wanted to love Final Fantasy 14, I hoped that it would turn out to be a sparkling jewel of a game that I could hold high and admire. What I got was, well less..
I preordered two copies of the deluxe edition, one for myself, one for my wife. We play a lot of MMO's together and look back on our time in FF11 with fond memories. Upon receiving the game, it was installed, patched and then began the back and forth process of actually getting an account set up and all the codes activiated. Instructions on where to enter what code where sparse and some mistakes where made.
After getting all of that straightened out and excited to get into the game. At character selection you get to choose from a wide variety of characters and assign a god to it, there is nothing explaining what if any benefit comes form a god selection or the birthdate selection so we used our own birthdates and went with the default god selection.
Once in the game, we found that the UI is almost unmanagable with a keyboard and mouse. Moving the character around was jerky and NPC's where often missed because I failed to wait around for them to pop into existence on my screen. We connected xbox 360 controllers to our PC's and got around this problem. We managed to get the starting quest from the bartender and figured out where the levequest dispenser was thanks to a giant croud of players standing in front of it.
Quests in journal we ventured out to begin our adventure. Once the aetherite was found we started our first levequest and selected a good group difficulty. We thought that was a pretty cool feature, once thequest was completed we discovered that only the person who initiated the levequest got the full reward and the other person could no longer initiate that levequedst or recieve the full reward for it. We split up and ddid levequests and both of us ended up dying a few times thatnks to iffy targeting (i.e. accidently target something other than the mob, such as yourself, and then have that target lock while the mob beats you to death) It took awhile to get past this and figure out the UI, once we realised that after the levequests where done, if you didnt want to craft, you had nothing to fo and xp diminished quickly.
We tried again a few times but it seemed very repeptiive and a kind of forced solo experience. We canceled so that we wouldn't get billed for the next month. Today I decided to see what changed for the patch that came out on the 14th and discovered that you canno even play the remaining time that was on your account after canceling. We also did not get the extra free month they gave out. In the end we are very dissapointed in SE for releasing an unfinished game and not caring at all about their customers. I personally feel ripped off by SE.

You and everybody else man, we feel your pain here at mmorpg. it is unquestionably (it isn't worth arguing, it is without doubt so fanboys save your breath) the worst AAA MMO to ever hit the market. The fact that you and I aren't eligable for the free month because we (and many others) cancelled just shows the true nature of this company. The free month is a desperate attempt by them to have us not leave the game until they can fix 'some' of the issues, but most of the core of the game is unfun and needs an NGE to rebound. The 'changes' don't even come into effect until after the free xtra month is over, this company has no regards for its customers or wouldn't have used them as glorified beta testers for the ps3 version. The attempts by SE to save face with the announcement from its director come at a time when the SE name is being ripped to shreds on every corner of the internet, and there is no point of paying for a game with a monthly fee in hopes that in a year it will be better. Before you FF fanboys flame me for that sentence be honest with yourself, would you support Mortal online or any other small MMO that releases so buggy or would you flame it because it isn't a major company? MO fans are saying 'wait' a year in hopes it gets better, same with FF14. I have no hope in either game of truly turning it around.
Wait -- after you cancel, before your 30 days are up, you cannot continue to play for the duration of the remaining free 30 days? It cuts you off there and then?
Yeah. They are pretty weird about it.
Weird isn't the term i'd use for their shady practices.
I have been trying to reconcile how this is legal, as it states on the box 'free 30 days of play with purchase'. If I cancel my account or not before the first 30 days should not matter, the box states that i get 30 days of free game play for purchasing the client.
I would admit that they would not owe me the extra 30 days they've offer everyone as i canceled my account, but I effectively paid for the first 30 days when i purchased the Collectors edition!

Normally I would be like, "OMG What were they thinking?! How could they cut you off?! No one does that!!!"
But I'm so overwhelmed by their design decisions in an overall sense that this just seems like another thing to throw onto the enormous pile of crazytard.
Just live, learn, and remember
There are two methods of canceling.
One stops billing, one terminates your account.
One lets you play through your remaining time, one completely deletes your account.
My brother and I both canceled, and we can both still play...even though we dont.
Dont be so quick to cancel maybe?
And seems to me another post from people who cant seem to adapt. Been playing ff14 now since launch and it feels no different, you soon get used to it.
Jerkyness? i dont seem to get any. You can both get the rewards if you both have the same leve. If you dont, at least you have 6 leves to do rather than 3.
Meh, more hate for a game not yet understood by the mass.
I can give you some advice that might help you in the future. If you have the free time, and you are really anticipating the release of an mmorpg, you should seriously consider signing up for their testing phases. I was incredibly excited for 14, and I started in alpha, played played played, and figured that it would get better. It did get better, but by the time open beta started, I realized that not much had changed, and while the game was visually stunning, it just felt unfinished, lacking content. I actually just realized while typing this that I pre-ordered the collectors edition at gamestop and I haven't gone to go get my 10 bucks back! Haha.
or a game thats just terrible...
Listen there a dozen MMOs that do what Final Fantasy does and better...
You paid money for a finished product that was placed in market... if they wanted more time to finish they should have delayed the release...
This "Wait for the patches, it'll be ok" doesn't do it.... I rather play something awesome and fun, and they fix it... I might come back but this game is really looking like it'll take more than a year to fix...
Suffer for a year for small 3 month patches...? Gimme, something fun to play.
Just give it up man. Its not even a debate anymore whether the game is good or not.
Welcome to the PC version of Final Fantasy XIV - the beta for the PS3 version.
The game is going to be a bust on the PS3 as well. Even with the technical issues fixed the game is simply borinng and not fun. Thats not going to change when it releases on PS3. I would not be suprised to see the PS3 version canceled.
Shady's too good of an excuse.
Amature, rushed, sloppy, poorly executed.
I think this MMO got to the market way too early for some kind of odd pressure.
I secretly think someone in SE hates the idea of MMOs and wanted to just kill the idea off in one fell swoop.
Mission accomplished.
APB was considered a flawed MMO until....
STO came along lacking "Exploration" Star Trek Feel... making you into a ship and killing social exchange... it was bad until....
FFXIV... it has classes... and you can change them... that's all....
yup...
While I agree that the game has turned out to be a huge pile of suck, it should be noted that the OP made a mistake in cancelling his accounts. There IS an option that allows you to play out your remaining time. He apparently chose the one that actually deletes the account. I wouldn't sweat it though OP, you're not missing anything. The new patch fixed nothing.
and may I add, not only do the patches fix only the very minimal...
They come in 3 months... DECEMBER...
You have til Christmas for your interface to be fixed...
GARBAGE!
Sadly i have to agree with most of th peoples opinions. I ADORED FFXI. It was by far one of the greatest gaming experinces ever (5 years). I wanted to love this game just as much as FFXI, but they are making it SOOO hard to do. From the copy paste terrain, EXTREMELY reptative leve quests (they are ALL just kill X mobs/kill X mobs for drops), tons of bugs and missing ...very basic features, this game is a giant mess.
I almost wish NA/EU did't get this game until a year from now like we did with FFXI....it was a blessing in disguise TBH. Maybe when the PS3 version rolls around il re-sub to see if its in better shape, but until then its just a shame. I put like 400$ of upgrades into my PC purely for this game, just to be let down. Its a damn shame becuase this was finnaly going to be my next big MMO, coming from a Genre that has turned into a giant solo/lets hold you hand fest. I honetsly have no idea what to even bother with...maybe if EQ3 comes out....

Once you have cancelled your Square Enix account, you will no longer be able to use any of the services associated with the account.
-
All service accounts will be cancelled.
-
After a Square Enix account has been cancelled, it cannot be reactivated.
If you decide afterwards that you would like to use a service again, you will need register a new account, but you cannot use the same e-mail address or Square Enix ID.
WTH, so either you stay subscriped to the game for eternity paying out of your pocket, and the second you need a break from the game due to either fund issues, or life issues, if you cancel, you can NEVER reactivate your account, and you can NEVER play your character again?!?!!? WTF
Not just weird crazy insane.
If you're to believe what people are saying, it seems a lot of people have accidentally deleted their account.
Too bad for them I guess.
So this is the account deletion right?

People didn't notice this one...
*After the cancellation procedures for this service account have completed, you will no longer be able to use this service account.
*Even after the cancellation procedures for this service account have completed, automatically continuous options will remain active until their end date. If you would like to use them again, please reactivate your service account.
They really have a shitty management system. I almost perma nuked my account also, because it is under the "Square Enix Account section" At the top... To actually unsub, you have to go to the VERY bottom of the page, under the "Services and Options" section.
This is why I always stress. READ EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS BEFORE YOU DO IT.
It's not understood because it makes no attempt to explain.
>>You can both get the rewards if you both have the same leve.
Try it, one of you gets the lesser reward and the other the full reward and both of you have that precious limited resource that is a guilleve marked as completed, it is obsolutely retarded.
