Lord of the Rings Online: Producer's Letter

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The official Lord of the Rings Online blog has been updated with a new Producer's Letter from Turbine's Kate "Nereid" Paiz. In the letter, Paiz reviews some of the information about subscriptions that was revealed during the Austin GDC. Paiz then continues on discussing Turbine's expanded view of LOTRO. Included in Paiz's remarks is information about a fundamental shift with regard to updates and how that will impact the game's development throughout 2011.

On the topic of updates, I wanted to let you know that we have shifted the way we think about our releases. In the past our updates depended on new Books being added to the Epic story. Going forward, updates will not always feature a new installment in the epic story line. By decoupling the Books from Updates we’ll have the flexibility to offer different types of new content and new features in each release. This will also allow us to do more releases each year. Don’t worry, continuing the Epic Story and continuing along the path of the Ring is very important to us! We’ll have more information to share about that and our plans for 2011 in the coming months.

Not bad, some low level and free player love. Makes sense since they have so many new players running around. I swear it's like times square on new years eve on my server. Freaking thousand little bastard hobbits (that never stfu). I feel like I'm playing on one of those crowded wow servers...

Wow the best we can do is  fix the  vault that we all complained about last last beta., that is about time.

However nobodody asked for you to go messing with the skills for LM's and for RK"s.  What we asked was that the lst 2 skills that we got in MIirkwood were crap, and wanted something else.  Not a total retooling of those toons.  That has never been discusssd.  So where is that comming from.

What about content, as in more overland zone areas.   Talk about not listening.

The one thing I did get was you will be buying the new quest packs via the Turbine store.

They (turbine ) have to do lotro by the books,  the only reason i play lotro is because it is by the book.

who want to play lotro by wow contents or wow ideas .

Ok haven't read the article yet, but from what you quoted Jakoblin I think maybe they mean instead of each new update they release being a "book" like Volume 1 bk 13 which added Forochel if I remember correctly, they're going to shift to adding updates as simply updates.  Some updates may contain a new "book" but not every update will be a book.  Which means they can really start adding content that isn't tied to the Epic storyline.

What they mean is that they won't have each update be a "Book," the way they've been doing it since launch. Instead, it sounds like we'll be getting smaller updates over time. They'll still be using the LOTRO book lore, they're just changing the terms they use internally for updates.

I hope this doesn't change the feel of the game.

Yep...and I think this is a good direction. It means they can FINALLY finish the Tower Hills and Grey Havens which players have been wanting forever.
