Why would people who were "completely new to MMO games" join a guild just to get into the beta of an obscure Korean grinder? Why would they have even heard of Forsaken World?

I dont know how they found out about the game maybe they had a friend who was playing a PWE game or w/e that i dont know. But why wouldnt you chose to start playing MMOs on a new game if youve never played a MMO seems like a good time doesnt it? By the way PWE is a China based company not Korean, so FW is a western themed Chinese game not Korean.

Quite a remarkable coincidence. An army of people who just happened to have friends playing other PWE games, decided now was a good time to get into the hobby, and somehow fell into a guild with the inside pipeline to the developers.
Or, maybe, they're not "completely new to MMO games" at all.
As for the Korean/Chinese thing - oops. My mistake. Goes to show how low-profile PWE is if even someone who has been playing and following MMOs for seven years gets their country of origin wrong.

Perhaps it never occured to you that FW has forums? Its not hard for several random people who have never played a MMO but would like to try find out a bout a game then look at the forum, see a guild promiseing CBT phase 1 entry and join. The guild in question had been promiseing these guaranteed slots for several MONTHS so not hard to get a bunch of members and army? lol. But i do admire your ability to nitpick a post, ignore stated facts that are the only ones that truely pertain to this situation and try to formulate a compelling argument against said post.

Yep, because the forums of not-yet-released MMOs are always full of people who have never played any MMO before.
How about we move away from these possible explanations, and instead you tell us what makes you think that so many members of this guild have never played an MMO before?
Me and 4 of my friends have had CB Keys for almost 6 months for this game. While they were putting out thousands and thousands of keys that they never had any intention of being valid.
So a few days ago we all get a "give these keys to your friends" and then 2 days ago we get a "sorry you've been waiting this whole time and you don't get it".
So it's nice to see that they are giving away slots on a premis of who you know..
The point is they have been giving out CB keys for half a year at least. They keep changing the date, then they say ont he forums "a good number of you will get in" and yeah I've only seen a few posts from people who got accepted. None of my friends did, not of the CB keys we got worked.
Screw PWI, This game is going to be an antique by the time it actually comes out.

Oh thats easy its all the people who post that this is their first MMO on the forum then ask why they cant download the client (which isnt relased yet) and ask how to activate their beta key, then they go and post in the guilds recruiting section that they want to join the guild in question.

So.. they've joined this guild in order to get closed beta access.. and yet they have closed beta keys (which they don't know how to use) before they post on the guild's recruiting section asking to join?
Just give up now, it's becoming increasingly obvious that you're just making stuff up.

Cool story bro. Guessing you never saw the screen shots of the guilds official forum? They asked for your login name in order to have your key apporved for phase 1. And yes most people hit the Get Beta Key button then recive the email without relizeing it find out they have to activate it, ask how and then activate it. Everyone who posts on the FW forums has (or should have) the beta key before they post.
Interesting to read most of this thread, many views are flawed as to not taking account that MMO releases have this thing called the level curve, knowing the quests and grind needed to do before hand allows you to stay a head which then in turn allows you to out level your competition, and keep killing them while your competition is trying to catch up the levels you got because of this favoritism which allowed you to get the experience needed to out level someone.
As well as when trying to sell multiple video games keeping a good image for your company is crucial to make this gamers come back to games that you create, personally not coming to play an other PWE game after FW (FW is my filler to GW2 anyway). The irony is that the one responsible for this is the PR executive. When trying to sell a service like a MMO it is very important that people think you are fair when making decisions, if they think other-wise they will be scared that if they kill someone that has ties with a GM they will be baned and lose all the money/time they put into their account. The only power you have to this ends up being not playing the game at all, which I bet PWE wont like and it is not what they are on busyness for, they are not on the busyness to make a the friend of a PR executive happy they are in to get people to play their game and make money from the players. Personally I put my money back in my wallet and will not be buying anything from FW cash shop, and instead save it for GW2, which is a better game anyway.

Using your logic, every MMORPG in existence gives a certain portion of the playerbase (beta players) an advantage over the rest of the playerbase. All the crying in the world wont change that MMORPGs do betas.

The unfairness factor comes in only when not everyone is given the same chance to participate in beta, and some are chosen over others though favoritism of the kind discussed in the OP.
You should read my second paragraph.
let me tl;dr it for you:
Image of the company and the trust that it will get by its players is only thing that is going to be harmed.
I was going to spend some money on it, but instead I ll just spend 1hour or so in codding a couple of bots that will give me money to be competitive in the game without giving PWE money, since they lost my trust and my ethics tell me they don't deserve my money.

Almost every game in existence has plenty of players in their closed beta that they choose specifically to test their game. I guess all of them are using favoritism to give those players an edge in PvP or whatever ridiculous argument you are using.
They aren't going to be harmed. They are going to weed out the weak. Everyone that crys about this is going to leave (actually, they probably won't leave) and the community is going to be better off without them. It's a F2P. Who cares about these guilds crying about closed beta?
And I agree, this game deserves no ones money because it's going to be terrible. Not because they picked a guild to join their closed beta.

The only "plenty of players" picked are quality assurance testers who are paid and trained to push the game to its limits and try to get it to break during this QA phase which is about 1 year before the game is even announced, also the rest of the "plenty" is usually writers editors and other 'news people' who are loved because they give the game free publicity whatever that publicity might be.
F2P games are the only ones with a random selection for CB, P2P or B2P have a pre-order based Beta Tester selection (which is really just allowing pre-order to get in), beta does not actually test for bugs if you think that is the case please do not respond, it is just a 'here play and allows us to stabilize the servers for release along with figuring out the max number of players online and possibly allow you to QQ about random shit'.
Probably not going to be harmed cause most people are retards and after QQing a bit they just fall in line and start paying money for whatever is sold to them, however possibly for future reference the ones able to understand this will not pay a dime and will try not to play PWE game again, only playing this cause my friends/guild decided they wanted to make this the filler until GW2 releases.
Yeah FW looks horrible, but w.e. played worst games (just don't pay a dime have some fun for a tiny while--releases are usually fun, being able to make kids QQ in world chat after Pking them is fun while they were grinding).

Lol.
Ok, closed beta is not for testing and bug reporting. You even go so far as to ask me not to respond if I disagree with you... Closed Beta tests are for bug reporting. No wonder people are having a problem understanding why it's a ridiculous complaint.
Only quality assurance testers that are hired for money play in MMORPG closed betas? What planet are you from?
At least I can understand where you are coming from based on your own invented facts. I was afraid you didn't even have pretend facts to back you up.

And there's the ignorance.
They're not choosing people in a logical manner. Easiest example: the talent calc fandev (Lashen) already posted in this thread that he was denied access. From a game's PR standpoint: that's a massive fail. This guy is developing a tool that is not only great PR in itself, but is actually creating game content (because it reinforces minmaxing). And because reskilling requires a cash shop item, that also means that encouraging minmaxing is bringing in revenue for the company. Since everything about what this guy is doing is pro-revenue, if you were making rational decisions, you'd obviously want to give that guy priority clearance... for the same reason that the Curse gets data dumps before patches go out for WoW.
The community recognized this guy's contribution, and have corrected the error themselves, but it's obvious that PWE wasn't passing out invites on merit.
And then I move onto myself. I did volunteer anti-hack/exploit work for Gpotato in Flyff, Space Cowboy and Rappelz, did translation work for Rappelz's Epic 4, and did data mining and translation for AlizarinHQ (which at the time was to Rappelz as Thotbot is to WoW). I generated instructional guides and videos explaining the massive overhaul that Rappelz was receiving (entire reworking of all classes, pets, the basic combat system, mob AI, etc.; it was essentially a completely new game, just using the old game's models), to the point where game staff actually responded to information inquiries with "ask Puppet". When I made my first post at Perfect World, I was greeted by name by some of their staff, who were themselves previously Gpotato employees that I had interacted with.
And I too was passed over for access. Again, the community has corrected this for the greater good, but again... it's pretty obvious we're not looking at merit here.
The problem is not JUST the obvious display of a high profile staff member favoring a specific player; it's that the entire process this far has been nothing but deceit: players were given beta keys which were supposed to give them access to the beta. WOOPS, turns out they don't, because the people who would actually be getting access to the beta were preselected. Imagine if Charlie Buckett showed up to the chocolate factory only to be kicked in the face by Willy Wonka and sent home because the Wonkas are tight with the parents of the other kids, and Willy just doesn't feel like dealing with the winners of all those surplus tickets they gave out.
So on the one hand, there's the fact that you had to win a beta key raffle... where the prize wasn't actually a beta key as advertised, but rather the key to participating in a second raffle to obtain a beta key...
And then there's the fact that the second raffle didn't actually happen: it was rigged so that the friend of an oompa loompa and all his frat brothers would get guaranteed seats on the boat. But they still pitched it as being the results of a totally random, unbiased raffle... and maintained that lie even after everyone noticed that half the boat was rocking green hair and suspenders. It wasn't until they were given pictures of Willy Wonka making out with the head of the Lil Man's Labour Union that they confessed that something might have been fishy... but still refuse to admit that the whole thing was a sham.
And finally, there's the obvious problem that Mr. Wonka himself is the head of PR for FW. Meaning that this is also the same guy who is telling people to lie and say that it was a random raffle. Obviously this guy has some clout, and he's perfectly willing to misuse that clout to fullfill his personal bias. Now Ragequit is understandably concerned over this: we ARE a hardcore pvp guild, so we hand out butthurt bars like every day was halloween. That said, we also spend a LOT of money on games... and I'm not talking "$100 is a lot compared to WoW!" kind of money. I won't give you the real figure, because you'll no doubt call me a liar, but just ask around. Additionally, we HAVE run into corrupt staff before; actually, in every game I can remember we ran across at least one corrupt staff member. Normally they're just volunteer GM/mods from guilds we're crushing who decide to go white knight and martyr themselves for their comrades, but we've seen a few special employees as well.
We really just want to know if we should be wasting our time/money on the game if we're all going to get banned when we inevitably roll over these scrubs, spawncamp them, and then release video montages of them hitting the dirt set to something classy like gangster rap music.
Cool, you like spending a lot of money on their games. I'm sure the rest of the playerbase will more than make up for your guild's cash shop players.
It's interesting to see how important you feel based on the amount of dollars you've spent. They already got what they want out of you and they couldn't care less about you personally. Or your guild. Especially because you whine over not making beta.
For your information, they never cared about you personally. They only cared about the money you spent. Now they just made it obvious to you. Hopefully you move on, but somehow I doubt it.

Believe it or not, I'm always positive cashflow when I walk away from a game. So your strawman attack on the fringe details isn't even based in reality.
Additionally, as you clearly skipped over in the post, while I wasn't selected during the "random selection", I AM in the beta, because I cried my little eyes out at someone who fixed what was obviously an unplanned error by their random selection machine... which you can tell by the title is clearly a highly advanced piece of technology with lottery balls and spinning gizmos, and TOTALLY not a piece of paper with a list of names written on it. So saying that I'm QQing over not being included is also incorrect.
My concern comes down to whether or not Willa Wonka will be the boss fight after I dropkick Violet Beauregarde in the placenta, seeing as the guy who snuck me into the factory was merely Mr Slugworth. And I'd rather not bother taking the time to learn the secret formula for the everlasting gobstopper if I already know in advance that everything in the factory is tainted with oompa loompa feces.

The funniest thing about all this epic butthurt is that mmorpg.com is currently giving away thousands of closed beta keys. I've done my bit to contribute to the QQ by claiming one, even though I have zero interest in this sure-to-be-terrible pay-to-win game.

GW2 ftw :P
THIS JUST IN!
Some vidya game let some guys beta test it, but not some other guys who wanted to.
Back to you Carl.
Sounds reasonable.
Look, it's pretty simple really. Start a game company and run it the way you want. Failing that, just enjoy the games you like.

The funniest thing about all this epic butthurt is that mmorpg.com is currently giving away thousands of closed beta keys. I've done my bit to contribute to the QQ by claiming one, even though I have zero interest in this sure-to-be-terrible pay-to-win game.
If this counts as a corruption scandel whats an actual corruption scandel look like?
Cause you know, this isnt one.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
