I decides to try this game out because I haven't played an mmorpg since aion and I was getting bored waiting for guild wars 2 to come out. So i downloaded it, with super low expectactions because its a f2p and i previously decided never to play another f2p after i quit requiem: bloodymare (arghh what a bad taste in my mouth) but its free and people say its innovative so I just gave it a try...

Wow! what a fun game! If you dont play it thinking its an mmorpg but instead more of an action online game with level progression you will enjoy the experience more. Playing it reminded me more of monster hunter, diablo 2, and demon's souls all of which are thoroughly enoyable. the graphics are awesome, the combat/skills and boss fights are well thought out, and the storyline is actually indulging and engaging. Dungeon runs with a party dont have to be more than 20-30 minutes long but that doesnt mean they are easy. Boss fights are intense and require precise timing and knowledge of their attack patterns in order to win.

Will it keep me occupied for 40 hrs a week for the next year? Absolutely not. And to be honest at this point in my life I dont have time to devote to such hardcore leveling/grinding anymore. Will it be fun to play as a side game that you play a couple of every hours every other day or whenever you feel like it or in addition to your main mmorpg? Definitely!

Even with regards to the item mall and the game economy- the game gives off a sentiment that reminds you that this isnt a game to be taken way too seriously like a full  blown mmorpg. at the end of each dungeon everyone gets their own loot so no one has to fight for items and equipment in the game isnt as important as player skill would be. As of now I forsee that I will be able to enjoy this game without having to pay any money and not having to feel like a "second class citizen."

So yeah, if anyone has enjoyed demons souls, monster hunter, or diablo you should def try this game out.

EDIT:

COIN SYSTEM: I dont know what everyone is complaining about. I am at level 22 ive only played a couple of days, and I didnt have trouble with coins running out yet. Heck this morning they even sent 30 free platinum coins in the mail for no reason. if you are running out of coins already and are already hitting max level (by playing for 72 hrs in a row straight) then a fix in the coin system is not going to make the game any more enjoyable for you.

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

Due to a bug during Early-Start and Open Beta, coins would refill everyday, when they are supposed to refill on monday and friday only. Nexon fixed this bug, which created a lot of outrage from the vocal part of the community, so they sent everyone 30 Platinum Tokens as an apology for their lack of communication.

I also completly agree with the last line of the quote.

Well, I've been playing for awhile now, and I completely agree that the combat system is fun, and over all the game has potential. But my lord, the party lag in dungeons is INSANE.  4-8 seconds for attacks to trigger, 10-15 for potions to work, rubber banding from hell, you name it, it has it lag wise.

Which is odd, since in solo its smooth as butter. I know its not my system(Vista64SP1, quad core 2.5 6 gigs of ram, a 22 meg connection and a geforce 9800GT(512megs ram)).  I've been playing Global Agenda, and in raids(with 10 other players and hordes of robotic mobs) its still smooth.  I've heard rumors that Nexon is using some P2P setup, is this true??

Any way, its good as a solo game, but if group play is going to be so horrible, its going to have limited appeal.

Yes its true. The reason why u have such a fine game solo and such a shitty game when u are in a group is because of P2P. Nexon is not hosting games on their servers. Players host them on their comps and u connect to other players. It seems to me that the game is build using Half-Life 2 engine (based on Loading box at the bottom right of screen during loading and options window semblance with Half-Life 2 and CS:Source) so with that said, I assume each player hosts a game on their own comp while others connect to him or her.

Oh my dear sweet lord...<face palm>... All that effort and work, and they pull a bone headed stunt like that?  Talk about being penny wise and pound foolish.  Nexon appears to be even more clueless than NCsoft has managed.  P2P for a major MMO? Now I've seen everything.  Its too bad as the combat system is a lot of fun, and the over all game is good as well.  Oh well, thanks for the information.

Vindictus is laughable, i deleted it in 2 days, a total waste of a download, unless your just terribly bored even then ( why i tried it) it is just plain LAME.

Actually the idea and principal is great as it cuts down on a cost for server infrastructure and maintenance for companies. However, this system would work probably only in Korea and Japan where they have a really high-speed internet and the physical distances of the country are not that big. Now, try this in NA and u got disaster.

Yes, thats what I was thinking as well. Both Japan and South Korea have MUCH better internet infrastructure than NA has. Not to mention they are much smaller distance wise.  But I suspect the chances of them putting in a proper client/server system are not good. Especially with Nexon involved.  Its too bad, as this game is a lot of fun.

@Wraithbone : From what I've experienced, you can tell (in the majority of the time) wether a player is lagging from the moment he enters the Boat. His character will skip frames, so I usually kick those players, and it saved me from dealing with a lot of missions under heavy lag. Because Vindictus works on a Peer to Peer system, you might also need to open some Ports on your Router (if you don't have uPnP), as it will greatly improve the connection. I do not remember exactly which ports are required, but you can most likely find them from Google or by sending a Support Ticket/reading knowledge base.

@Kuraphimaru : Yes, Vindictus was developed using the Source Engine.
