Wife went to pick up my pre-order for this, and for TFU2 earlier. Gonna start this one first, and will be commenting as I go thru the game.

OK I played for a few hrs last night.
Unlike Fable 2, it appears you need to click on each person if you wanna raise/lower reputation with that person. In F2, if you did various expressions then everyone around got a rep boost.
The pause button.....shoots you straight to your home base. IN some instances I have been able to save directly(during the middle of jobs etc....but normally you have to go back to base, THEN move to the options statue to save. Same with your map.....no more convience thru start menu, you are heading back.
You no longer earn specific skill exp ala F2....you get generic exp points you use for purchasing things with.
Pluses....the map actually shows what is going on in a city. YOu can see who has the quests, and I believe ti showed what was for sale.
In F2 I prefered melee....this time around I am liking the fireball spell.
In F2 I dont remember using dodge(cant recall if it actually had it)....It seems I only fought one boss mob, and I was doing a lot of dodging. Hit a slow time potion on accident to finish him off. I dont understand where our health meter is. Gonna need to read manual I guess.
OK more to come as I progress.

Was playing at a friends house, good game from what I can tell, I missed out on two personally. I was going to buy a 360 next week (birthday) along with this and read dead redemption (haven't played yet), but my GFX card just fried (uhg). On top of that had a heart attack at 31 last week and meds are like 400 a month lol, so I doubt that's going to happen now. Maybe I'll rent one from rent a center or Aarons.

Wow Mal I am sorry to hear that. From doing steroids all these yrs, and smoking to boot, I have high BP. Keep taking those meds, as they do help. I guy I grew up with had a H. A. at 30. He passed away, leaving a wife/kid I guess. It isnt as strange as it sounds.
F2 was OK I suppose. I completed game, but didnt like it enough to play thru a 2nd time.
RDR was alright. I am only part way in. I dont like the sandbox to this....huge open areas with nothing to do besides some random encounters or wandering mobs. The horse breaking mini game is an alright side game(you have to find various breeds out in wild, then break them to be able to use in game).
If I was going to recommend 360 games from this yr alone, I would go with Mass Effect 2, FO:Vegas, Mafia 2, and possibly Alan Wake(own it but havent played thru it). Even though these games use shooter mechanics, it doesnt mean I am a huge shooter fan. They have good stories to them.
Back to Fable 3 info....
I ws just looking thru my manual whilest on the throne, and I didnt see a way to decide which expression to use(each button is assigned an expression. IN F2 you could use any you wished....in F3 you need to cycle thru them it appears(like you use good expressions....whistle THEN hero flex THEN shake hands. There is no way to skiip to shaking hands.
Also, forgot to mention at home base you can change which tatoos/clothees and use the character appearance tab for thngs you have purchased. There is a place to save 3 sets of pre-sets for fashions.
OK gonna try to game a bit today. Supposed to be a free day, but wife hurt her neck streching this morning......DONT ASK ME. She is in pain, and already been to Doc. Said she pulled a tendon or something.....basically he said "Screw you Moaky....you get to do the running today". I hate Docs!!!!!
Nah just kidding...she is good to me, and some days I gotta watch out for her.

Thanks moak, I think I'll be okay, I went vegetarian and have stopped smoking (patches) working for a pharm has it's advantages as well, as I can get the meds and pay later (out of check). Just sucks as who knows what the future holds now. Enough about me and my drama though, hah.
Sounds good to me so far, maybe the old lady will break down and pick both up for me (360/F3), my birthday is next week, and bad stuff happened I'm entitled to be spoiled, lol.

I played about 7 hours yesterday and am loving it. I got about halfway through Fable 2, took a break and haven't yet gone back. The wierd thing about Fable 3 is that yes, in so many ways it feels like F2, but there are also a lot of subtle improvements that just improve game play and the over all experience.
I like that you can zoom in on a region and see the quests there. You can even buy, sell and manage properties from there, once you've unlocked the ability to own them.
As stated by the OP, gaining friends takes more effort here than in F2, but I don't think that's a bad thing. It was maybe too easy in F2. In addition to having to give individual attention, to make the final transition to friend status, you need to do a brief quest for the person. This gets you out in the world, usually with a random encounter or two, with out becoming a major time sink.
The side quests, so far, have been great. Rounding up Chickens in a humorous and creative way. Participating in scenes from a lost play. The one with the Garden Gnomes is hilarious (stick around for the singing). Love it!
On combat, I like that it requires you to move around, switch attacks and actually use tactics to win the tougher encounters. It amazes me that you can play with a pretty small amount of active skills and still have combat that's more interactive, tactical and fun than anything in an MMO. The game offers some wicked, slow motion special moves for melee, so don't miss out on that. Just be in range, hold down the melee button, point the directional at your target and let go of the button. I usually pick off a couple enemies at range, use magic and tumbling to manage the battle field, while watching for opportunities to use the melee specials. Very dramatic effect and very fun.
Another thing that is great is the way your weapons evolve as you do. At each upgrade, the weapon model updates to be even more kick @ss than the previous incarnation.
A lot of fun so far.

I've been playing a bit too, I only got about 5 hours yesterday because I wanted to get some global agenda out of the way with some buddies before they left for a week to colorado.
Anyways. No there is no health bar, no mana bar. There are some things that I like, like the magic system is done a little bit better then in F2.
It seems fable 3 is like the "iPhone" of the RPGs. They've seriously removed the menus, and made it mostly visual cues - removing functionality for ease of use. The voice work so far is fantastic, and I love John Cleese. The combat seems slightly less fluid to me, a little bit of stuttering here and there with the melee. When doing side jobs I often have a little lag time as I increase in gold multipliers. I don't remember seeing that in F2.
The choices that you have to make so far have been pretty epic, though I won't go into any detail for those who haven't played yet.
I'm really interested in opening up all of the items, and i downloaded the free weapons pack so far. I haven't used any of my free preorder items yet, but I expect to soon.
Game is awesome though. Keep us updated on your progress Moaky.
Heck Mal....dont worry about "drama" on these brds. You are around for the TOR forums, so being subjected to that, we are allowed to bring up some RL stuff here and there.
I think the saying is "Frack em if they cant take a joke".
I got a little bored with F3 today, and have switched over to TFU2 for a bit. I was looking thru the acheivements, and I dont like that there are ones for getting married online, and having a kid with someone online. Kind of weird chit if ya ask me. I got the corss dresser one accidently just by doing a quest....and it actually made me laugh. There is another acheivement for dressing as a chicken, and judging someone or something to that effect. Cant wait to see how that one plays out.
Will continue more F3 later, as I am sure TFU2 wont take too long to play....that is if I keep going on it till I finish.

I'm still miffed that the game was delayed on the PC. I don't own a 360
The collective j**z that i spouted all over this game is insane. It's short, if you consider 15-20 hours short but i enjoyed it. I've already restarted just to try and custom steer my weapons in a certain direction.
I'm 15 hours in now. I'm almost to the end of the Road to Rule, but there is still a ton to do in the game, so I'm putting the main story line on hold to expand my real estate empire, make more friends and do the side quests.
It seems it's very possible to rush the main story line, if you want to, but I can also see I've just barely scratched the surface on the extended, optional content part of the game. Looking at all the towns before shutting down tonight, it appears that new side quests have been added to a number of regions, on top of all the ones I hadn't gotten to yet. Many of the side quests have story content and some last for a good amount of time. I think I have 8 Silver Keys so far, no gold keys. I haven't solved any of the Demon Doors yet, etc... I think the game completion score that pops up from time to time puts me at well under 5%.
It's definitely one of those games where "how long will it take" really depends on the player. Some games just have the story line, maybe a few side quests, but then nothing else to do, even if you want to extend your game play. That's not F3. There is tons of optional stuff you can do, if you are interested in more than the main story.
The real estate side of things alone looks like it will take some time to play out. I own most of the Houses in the early, small village, and the stalls, but the larger businesses are still too expensive. Looking at some of the other zones, there is a ton of properties in the game and the base cost progresses pretty steeply as you get closer to the capital.
I think I have about 7 of the Garden Gnomes so far, so still have a lot to go there too. (I want to see what happens when you round them all up).
Not even going to think about romance and family achievements until I get a lot further with the rest of the stuff.
Still loving the combat. As battles are getting tougher, I have had to rely more and more on Magic, but I still make it a point to get in a number of melee flouirishes and other melee action each fight.
I also can't say enough good things about the voice acting and story telling. Absolutely love it. I think that's why I am further along the main story line than I had planned, because I couldn't wait to get more of the well scripted story content. Then I discovered that more than a few of the side quests are just as rewarding, so I'm tracking those down as I go.
Great game. Everyone one can enjoy it the way they want to, but I hope people realize how much more there is to the game than just the main story line and don't end up missingout on a lot of content they might have really enjoyed.

Is the xbox version laggy I keep reading about that at gamespot forums. I want to buy it I have a sneaky suspicion they might not release the PC version like they never did one for Fable 2.
The game does lag a bit, yes. I did notice that once I installed it to my 360 hard drive it ran a little better. I used to get some stuttering but most of that has gone away, and every now and then i just get a bit of a slow down if theres too much on the screen.
About 24 hours of game play in now. Still loving it, though I've started to run low on meaningful side quests, while delaying the final push on the Road to Rule.
The real estate is snowballing now. When I logged off, my last tick would set my hourly income around 700K, as long as I keep my properties in good repair. I still have a number of high priced properties to grab, but may peak my holdings next session, if not, then the session after that.
I've found 1 gold key and 17 silver, with out searching all the nooks and crannies of the zones. About the same count on Gnomes, or pretty close. Still no Demon Doors solved.
Excellent game.
As far as screen lag, even installed to HD, I still get some instances where things slow way down. It's very rare and usually doesn't last too long. I haven't been able to figure out exactly what triggers it yet. Not always the same locations and sometimes it happens when there aren't even any NPCs on screen (although sometimes it does happen with a large group of enemies).
So, I think I'm going to continue to amass treasure through real estate, work on the achievment for 30 friends and start looking a little harder for keys and gnomes, before pushing further in the story.
The city zones are large and well detailed. For those who want to slow down and take time to live among the people, it's a pretty immersive experience.

Nice job. Yeah, I've spoken to a number of friends of mine that have also been playing the game and all of them seem to have some problem or another. I was talking with my cousin last night that, not only has these issues, but he also has had some major problems with getting his preorder items. He finally ended up getting one last night, and shortly after he started getting lock-ups on his game.
It is a great game, but rather buggy. I constantly have issues where my gold line for quests will just disappear completely, or take me back to the start of the quest and start over even after I'm already half way done.
It seems like this has kept on line with the other 2 games in the series. Of them all I think Fable 1 was the least buggy I remember playing. Fable 2 was pretty bad, but this third installment has a tremendous amount of issues, most of which I don't even think have anything to do with hardware limitations. I can only imaging the amount of problems the PC port will have.
I've bought all of about 3 towns so far, found maybe 5 or 6 keys, got about the same amount of gnomes, and opened only one demon door. The game is great.. but it has some glaring flaws even without the bugs. I still consider it a must play though simply because the story and the content is just too much fun to pass up.
Just wanted to check in and see where everyone is in the game right now.
I ended up starting a new character and went over some parts differently. Took me half the time to get to the same point I'm at with my first character.
Which direction are you taking? What changes have been made due to your actions?
I go ahead an install all games I am currently playing to HD....it helps a lot with loading screens alone....let alone any ingame performance boost.
I got past the road to rule, to where I am actually the king.....and now I have to restart my game
I would suggest having 10M saved before finishing the road to rule.
It is an alright game. Probably should of rented it, but will have it when DLC launches.
This time around when you rent houses their condition goes down, so you have to keep them repaired.
The job mini games(blacksmith, pie maker, lute player) reminds me of my kid playing Guitar Hero.
There is a quest where you will listen to a "typical" PnP session. Look for it.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
Does the game have Multiplayer capability. Have not played any of the fables.. But right now 2 of my friends and myself are looking for a game to play 1 or 2 nights a week just for story. WE were thinking of heading back to Guildwars for that fix.
Yeah, I loved that quest. I went through it with both a male and female character, kind of a different experience.
As for the road to rule, I have gone through it twice. One thing to take note of, when you are the king (or queen) you can always run off and do other jobs, etc. instead of doing everything on the list up front. This way you can run around and look for keys, gnomes, plants, run quests, while your money goes up steadily for your next days activities. I've already maxed out the amount of cash needed, and i still have a few million in my personal store to transfer. I still haven't gone through all of my kingly (and queenly, I have two characters now) duties. I still have 2 hundred and something days left.
Overall I'm glad I bought the game, I'd like to go through the game multiplayer and see what thats like too. Theres also the whole thing about trading weapons? Not sure what thats all about.
One thing I am disappointed in is the lack of hairstyles/clothing options you have.
Yes the game has multiplayer, though I don't know how many people you can have in the gameworld with you at the same time. This could be a great casual game for multiplayer, but I seriously can't put it down. I spent my entire weekend playing between my two characters. I haven't really played a game that hardcore in close to a year.
30 hours in now.
Over 7 million gold and rising. I just finished the Road to Rule, but am taking my time to finish up some lose ends before moving forward with the Ruler's decision quests. I want to make sure I have more than enough coin.
I was planning to try to complete keys, gnomes, etc... on this run, but I'm already planning a second run, so I'll save a more complete game for then. In spite of comments from many on how easy combat was, I did die fairly often on this run through, so next run I'll be more careful and make better use of my knowledge of the game to stay alive. I'm also going to focus on getting Legendary weapons earlier and focus on activating their upgrades.
So, I still really like the game and intend to get a lot more play out of it. However, I can't help but feel that Microsoft rushed the game. For most of it's development cycle, Lionhead touted that the Road to Rule was only the first half of the game. However, unless you just stretch it out on your own, the post Rule content and game play is far, far less than half the game.
It's really too bad.
I hope there will be some good DLC to flesh out the game and extend the experience as ruler.

I never understood the appeal behind the Fable games... The first one felt like a mockery of the games with decisions with them being meaningless (killing your sister doesn't make much of a difference in the world) plus too black and white. I never knew bad people could grow horns, it's like the game never decided if it wanted to be serious or not, and in the end it just becomes a joke of itself.
The npc interaction was so shallow and artificial you could hear the gears when you spammed the emotes.
Hell a indie game like Mount&Blade felt more deep in the decisions than Fable. You could approach a caraven and charge money or kill them. If it was Fable, the options would be offer your horse to help them your food and gold, or rape, then torture them and feed them to their own dogs, and get horns or a halo as the only consequence...
oh and there's some evil-meter-number that you can easily revert by throwing money at some shrine or so.
The first fable was great, eventhough your mockery is meant to show otherwise, what you state are some of the reasons I liked the game.
Mount and blade is great for one aspect, and one aspect only, its awesome combat. The choices you could make in M&B really didn't mean much, it all ended up as a race for followers which pretty much just ended in larger, longer lasting battles, or a siege on a keep. Absolutely no story aspects, the only thing that kept you playing was the combat and different mods so you can play different kinds of combat.
Fable 3 allows you to make very large world changing choices. The story is pretty great. There are a lot of really funny quests, great voice acting, its been an excellent experience. The game isn't without its problems though.
With all of the Fables I was always expecting something.... more. They were always highly hyped, and in comparison to the picture Molyneux paints of the game while in development, it never lives up to it. Still, the game is very fun, lots of additional gameplay in this title, I have upwards of 60 hours and haven't even finished the main storyline, I still have tons of keys to get, gnomes to kill, a few demon doors left, some plants to get, and maybe play a few rounds of chess with Chesty, who happens to be my super best friend.
Great game.
Agree with the hype. Last 2 fables was insanely hyped, especially the first one. I read alot into them and got disappointed when i finally got them Despite the disappointment they were still very enjoyable games.
For that reason i haven't looked into anything it should have or shouldn't have. Pre-ordered on the PC at the moment and am hoping it should be pretty decent.
I thought fable 1 was one of the best games i've played. Sure it was a little jokey but it made it different. It had a special feel to it as well that i can't really explain. Just seemed to make you very interested and want to go on, not many games do that these days. For me anyway.
If nothing else they deserve some hype for using t-rex in the ads

The person who is certain, and who claims divine warrant for his certainty, belongs now to the infancy of our species.
Well I am letting game sit while my land purchases bring in money. I dont believe game accumulates money offline(at least that I have noticed).
At 4th skill lvl on my do-over game. Have like 21 cheivies unlocked now. I still cant get the 2000 score on the mortar game(1640 is best score). I did pick the winner at the chicken races.....yes I did pick all 5 once....I am talking just a single pick :P
Got like 15 gnomes so far. The one was taunting me from several houses away. I read there is some errors in game, and that must be one. Pretty far range to be taunting.
Anyways gonna play a few more minutes then crash.
