    My feelings on the matter.

Then for sure MMORPGs takes skill, but it depends alot on the MMORPG in question and what options it gives you as a player.

Saying that FPS PvP takes skill and RPG does not is like saying ping pong takes skill but chess does not. You cant compare the two as they are entirely different.

I agree with you, sort of, but the whole ping pong vs chess analogy is way off. Chess is a skill based game, whilst it is tactical in nature it is still player vs player with the game mechanics favouring neither side. RPG games (whilst they require some forethought/panning) do not give a level playing field (thats the point in progression games) and as such are nothing like chess.

The point was not to equate chess to RPG PvP but rather that the skillset for chess and ping pong are entirely different so you cant say one takes skills and the other does not, like with RPG PvP and FPS PvP.

As for level playing field, well in many sports there is equipment and size advantage (weight classes in boxing for example) so certainly you have that in other competing sports as well. That again does not mean that RPG PvP requires no skills, it does. It just does not require the same skill set as FPS PvP nor does it have the same level playing field.

ROFLMAO!!! Tactical group skills is called teamplay/communication and it's needed in every team-based game. How to build your character and what gear to use for what situation isn't what I call skills, any noob can build and gear like a pro but it doesn't mean he can play like one. IMO, the only skills you need in a MMORPG-PvP game is being able to know when to use what power and that's it. And yes FPS do required alot more skills than MMORPG, why do you think cs1.6 been a high competitive game for the last 10 years when no MMORPG (execpt WoW but not for long anymore) is being played at a pro lvl in major tournaments. So IMO, yes the 2 styles can be compare skill-wised.

It may not be the best example, but its the only one that comes to my mind. Compare Global Agenda, a TPS/MMORPG to TF2 a real FPS. Global Agenda don't required half of the skill needed to be good in TF2. In Global Agenda, don't even try to take on 3 players alone even if they are noobs, there's nearly no way you can win because of the RPG part of the game. But in TF2, i can easily take out 3 noobs since aiming and game mechanics understanding is wayyy more needed in TF2.

Seems you still dont get it. Tactical group skills or whatever you call it is still a skill and is needed in MMORPG PvP, even more so because in MMORPG PvP you usually coordinate much larger battles than your typical deatch match in FPS.

And knowing what gears and builds to use is a skill, it requires thought and experience. Just because someone can replicate someone elses build does not mean it is not a skill.

In any case, it seems you fail to understand that there is not one single skill used for all games. FPS games use the skill of aiming with your mouse, jumping up and down, ducking and other fast reflex type skills where such as games like Eve require a whole different set of skills. For example, you need social skills to create a powerful PvP corp in Eve. Just because you dont care to learn those type of skills does not make them less of a skill.

The game is awesome, i dont personally play it cause i am just too lazy to microing so much,

But its one of the best pvp skill dependant games i ve seen. Its really an AAA skill game from a skill dependant gameplay aspect

plus it doesnt have gear and other stupid stuff that gives noobs an advantage for playing longer

The other people who dont like its gameplay they simply suck at it and just cry(i am not talking about support/bug/engine issues, only about gameplay)

I got the beta invite as well and was looking forward to giving it a go. Unfortunately I am having the same problem as a few others here. Thing won't patch and just says..newer version available. Internet has a few instances of people reporting this issue on the forums but no one ever replies back with a solution. Oh well. Uninstall and done.

Good to hear.  Part of the reason why I stopped playing LoL was it was more luck than skill it seems a lot of times.  Maybe I'll check it out then.

From every trailer this looks like a duller version of LoL with fewer characters and no character improvement (either per game or meta) at all--i.e., total crap.  Just spawn and bumrush the other team.  Wooo.

And people who complain about crits/evades really should pay attention to item effects.  Though it doesn't seem as if this game even has any (?) so it should be much better for the simpleminded.  All in all I find LoL a lot more fun (even though I've taken a break from it for the past month or so)  simply because you have to actually focus on how you BUILD your character, and pay attention to how you DEVELOP them (vs NPCs or going for ganks), two elements this game seems to completely ignore.  No thank you Funcom, please stop emailing me!  I don't know why they thought this would be a successful release in the face of already existing, more fleshed-out games of the exact same type.

I'm glad that people like you, who watch trailers to make an informed oppinion on games such as BLC, will not be joining those who actually test them out for their 'real worth'.

Oh and btw, at the bottom of a Funcom email is a little link that says "unsubscribe"... click it

This game is 100% skill, no gear or advancements.

You create arena teams and compete in tournaments.

Please do not hype any gam.. oh wait, nevermind... forgot what forum I was on.

Ok. I read your review and downloaded this game and I have to say it is really fun. Thanks so much for the non-rpg heads up as this game will probably be at the top of my play list when I have less than a half hour to spare.

I was pleasantly surprised when I went from Apprentice to full 5 star Elite in under 2 months. I was pleasantly surprised again when I went from Elite to just barely Hardcore in 2 weeks. Apprentice, here I come!

The first time I saw this game it struck me as a tester. Like an inhouse demo mini game that would take a single element from a larger game and have the mechanics run so that the element could be repeated as many times as possible. A way of refining certain parts of gameplay.

Hur dur game doesn't have rpg elements so it's clearly inferior.

Do you put any thought into your posts at all?

This game is a top-down, fast-paced action game. Every match is between two even teams. It's like a first person shooter but with action-RPG controls. It's a ton of fun, and I'm really glad I gave it a shot despite the Funcom logo I saw in the email (almost didn't click because of that.)

The game balance between characters is pretty great, action is quick and fast-paced, games are short, and there's plenty of diversity in the character types to make every game interesting.

Don't write this game off without trying it. It surprised me. I bet it will surprise most others, too.

For those having patching problems, mine took a little while for the bar to start filling. I'm not sure what's up with that. I just let it sit for a while, and came back to it being nearly done.

For those complaining about the graphics: try adjusting your graphics settings, dimwits. The game looks and runs great on my computer.

I tried the game out and for some reason I lagged like hell..

Anyway, I'm not sure but I didn't notice any advancement while browsing through the game and was the reason I was a bit dissapointed. The reason I liked LoL way more than HoN also.

Advancements like gear, levels, achievements are only used to attract noob crowds aka 90% of ppl playing game aka the money. Its basic phycology, it makes them feel less fail. And it simple works, thats why i say 90% of the world is stupid!

I dont count build countering as a skill, that can all be done pre fight and at the end you just have an unfair advantage in the real battle.

BLC is an awesome game skill wise but dunno how well it will go, its an awesome game for the few not the many noobs

    Fury anyone????

  • reanorreanor Member UncommonPosts: 441

this game will fail eventually. No I am not a hater, thing is that pure PvP games always do. Its been proven so many times. So its just a matter of time. Unless of course this is F2P with item mall then there is no problem.

Not true at all, I'm a Dota veteran, played the map for several years and have gone to many country-wide tournaments with my team and even got sponsored by net cafes.. Then it gets old. BLC won't live in 2010. It's boring. Tournaments and such will be good for this game but just that.

Not much depth in this game other than aiming some skills. With little advancment the game will become boring fast for most. Nothing but PvP is fine, but if there is litterally no point to it other than killing some time.. people will just move onto the next similar game fast.

I played it for a bit. I like the way skills work but its the same thing everytime. Its balanced for 3v3 and thats it. The balance there is still being worked on.

But beyond this.. the game gets boring after first or second day.

And what does this mean?? sc2 is inferior to sc1 in terms of skill based gameplay yet most people are on starcraft 2 and made many tournaments, its just marketing

This game is like the XFL of dota/wow arena.  People are trying to hype it as "XTREME" and "HARDCORE" but it caters to a very specific type of gamer, and does not have the skill cap of top FPS or RTS games.

People are still playing Counterstrike man. Progression isn't the only way to make a game entertaining on the long term.

One of the developmental goals for this game is to have a relatively consistent release of new bloodlines (characters) to keep things fresh, anyways.

Been playing the beta for a few weeks. Really love it :] Plays like LoL but gameplay isnt LoL. This game reminds me of the good ol' days playing Fury. Ahhh the best arena game i've ever played....
