An unusual LFG request..

I have taken it upon myself to learn German. Now having a fondness for MMOs, and given the fact that there's bound to be some German servers for popular games i've come to ask if anyone could suggest a game which has a friendly community (guilds/legions would be a huge plus) and group-orientated content.  I'm bound to spend an hour or two gaming every day after work regardless, but if i could find a game that even marginally contributed to my learning of German i'd consider it a success. As such i don't require a game with cutting edge graphics, nor will the inclusion of pvp be of much consequence. I'm not sure if such a game exists, but i'm sure if one does someone here will be able to point me in the right direction.

Many thanks for your help!

I'd def wait and get a few more opinions on this but I have enountered friendly german-speaking individuals in City of Heroes, Age of Conan, and (and I mean really) World of Warcraft on their specifical language speaking server.

Also to fully disclose; I do not speak German myself, but I've had long time friends made from previous games who have that particular preference and we generally voice chat while playing anyway.

Most games have German servers. besides the above mentioned ones: EQ2, WAR, Guildwars... More or less all the big ones.

I think it easier to pick the game first. Buy a German box from Amazon.DE or some other German store that ships. In Europe have most boxes already multi language support but it is worth checking up before getting any.

I would probably try picking up Guildwars, the European version of it makes it possible to change between the English, German and international servers in mere seconds and you can buy it online. It should be enough for your needs, have no monthly fees and is group centered.

There are many F2P games also with German servers, DDO is a good choice there. I don't think LOTRO have been released as a F2P game in Europe yet, but it will happen soon.

I do already own Guildwars and WoW, but i've never ventured into their German servers. Would you consider them to be good choices? For guildwars as long as i was able to find a good, active guild i can see it being worthwhile. Especially given the speed at which you can reach "end game" as it were. However with WoW you have to invest a lot more time before you're at the level where the majority of the group content is at. Maybe it's just a case of finding a well populated WoW server? I'd have to look into that.

Between f2p mmo, Maestia has a dominant german community.

And it's a good game also!

LotrO F2P relased in Europe last week.

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
