Is Mines of Moria worth getting to?

When I read reviews of the MoM areas it seems that people either love it or hate it. Tell me, whats your take?

Well, are you looking for something different than what you read in those reviews?

I mean, all we would be are another review. For what' it's worth I do think it's worth it. It's a huge area, very cool and diverse environments considering it's "a mine" and there is a lot to do.

If yoiu are adverse to being "inside" for extended lengths of time as some players are then of course it wouldn't be for you.

I really enjoyed the MoM expansion myself.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

It has to be one of the largest dungeons ever created. The look and feel of the mines are great. The content is also very well done so it is worth the purchase. But, I did feel closed in after awhile. I started logging in less and less the longer I was in there. So it is worth the price for the amount of content. But it is a very long dungeon crawl. So you have to decide if that is for you. At the same time, if you ever want to get to the other side to continue the journey, you will have to go through the mines.

In my opinion,  yes most definetly!

Although you won't have to bring sunscreen, cus' you'll be in the great underdark for quite a long time.

Love it AND hate it is pretty accurate.  As others have said, it's one of the biggest dungeons there is, and it's not tough at all to get completely screwed up by the maps.  And the sheer density of mobs can make getting lost more frustrating, as you hack through 20 baddies to get down a hall and realize you're going the wrong way.

Many of the areas are dark and beautiful.  The Dark Deeps are particularly beautiful, but again frustrating to get through, with Elite mobs around the corner that can smoosh ya into bits... AND the ease in which you can get lost.

But, those same things can be what's great about it, too.

As others have said, being stuck in the dark, with no changing weather conditions for 10 levels gets old after a while.  So it's good to divide your time up as best you can.  Kinda wish Lothlorien hadn't been just level 60-ish content.

To be honest I don't care too much for Moria but the truth of the matter is there is so much content chocked into the place it's hard to envision going from 50-65 without spending a considerable amount of time in the place.

One of my first problems with Moria is the overall design, the place to put it simply is a bitch to get around in now some years after it's release I am finally getting to the point where I am close to familiar with where everything I need to find is but this is as a player who got the expansion the day it released.

I don't have too many objections with the story material but ones character would/could be gimped to no end if you tried to avoid the place all together, and this is an even bigger negative when you consider that throughout the game you always have atleast two choices of where you want to adventure in until you reach Moria, hell they even added another area so folks can avoid having to do Mirkwood so I can't figure for the life of me why they neglected 50-60.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Moria was a mixed bag for me, too, though not so much for the reasons mentioned so far. I actually really enjoyed the layout and ambience of Moria. My problem came more from the change of direction MoM introduced to the game (radiance, faction grinds, marginalized crafting, etc). Some of that will still be felt even if you don't buy MoM, though, since it was an overall shift in focus for the game, rather than something limited to just one geographical area of the map.

As far as Moria itself goes, there are lots of travel routes, tons of quest hubs, and many different environments (dark, foreboding areas covered in fungus, half-submerged areas, sprawling gardens, lava-fields conjoined with arching stone bridges, and so on). It's not just one wall texture in a nevernding hallway, there's really quite a lot to see. Getting around can be difficult due to the cramped hallways and large mob population (many of which have snares that prevent you from just running by), but getting access to the various stablemasters eliminates the worst of that, just leaving you with the "fight there and back" process of getting to quest objectives.

Nice post that brought something else to light I hadn't considered in the change of focus for he entire game with the Radiance etc. But truth be told I'm used to MMORPG's trying to funnel us into raiding at end game since every game does it but the crafting does die off (in part due to the legendaries).

One thing I did want to add though about the travel routes is they are a mixed bag at times for example, Jazargund can only be reached from the twenty first hall even though in distance it's a hop skip and jump from Chamber of Crossroads.  so while there are travel routes to get to alot of the places in the mines a good many of them have no real connection outside of travelling to one area first then travelling again to where you wanted to go.

Folks are right that the environments do vary enough to offer a good bit of scenery but the truth is when you get to Moria the difference in design philosophy is highly visible and while not the worse thing I really did feel like they did a better job with the game before Moria than after.

I still though feel like the most glaring problem with Moria is the lack of alternate content of the same level which is not the case anywhere else in the game that I can remember.

Moria is awesome. Very immersive. It will drive you crazy at times, but that's the point! It is a gigantic dark maze after all...
If you plan on sticking with the game for any length of time then definitely get Moria!

Definitely worth it, I still look forward to getting there on my alts.

Moria is my favorite area of the game.  It was supposed to be difficult to get around.  It was supposed to be mob-dense because the orcs threw out the dwarves and took over the place.  (The Dwarves want to get it back so much because it was their "Eden".  They were created and placed there as their home.)

Moria is one of my favorite zones in the game (the other two being the Shire and Evendim). It's simply breathtaking, and has a dark beauty that you don't really see anywhere else in the game. It's massive, not just in terms of zone size, but also vertical size - the zones are already quite large, so when you add several levels to it....well, it can be quite a challenge to navigate.

I highly recommend picking it up if you haven't already.
