Ok, so far I was very hyped about DCU, and I sort of still am. However, the recent weeks have made me nervous, and today even more so. Today, I began to play "Two Worlds II". It's a single player RPG, and the combat there has blocks and combos. Yeah, sounds familiar, eh? Yeah, what I once again realized: I SUCK at block and combos. Really, really bad.
It's like games with jump. When there is a game where you need to jump, in 9 of 10 cases I fall into the chasm between. Always.
So atm, reading about blocks and combos in DCU, I start to get nervous and skeptical. I mean, generally I love action combat, but when the combat is reliant on MY skills and not the characters skills, it usually ends bad. This thing, pressing buttons exactly timed, it just SO isn't my thing. So right now after having a really hard time with block and combo in TW2, I have a bad feeling about this combat system DCU also claimed to be heavy reliant of blocks and timed combos. It's just made games like, e.g., The Force Unleashed entirely unplayable to me. I just die way too much and end up angry and frustrated.
Alas, I didn't have the chance to playtest it on any public test or something, so I can't say. *sigh*

I would have to say you are correct that this game may not be for you. On the one hand you may not be great at combos, on the other hand you might not need to be.
What I mean is, you may not need to be a fantastic action game player to do some of the PvE missions. You may not get the full effect of PvP, but it doesn't mean the game won't be enjoyable for you.
I'd say, give it a shot if and when it hits open beta. If you have preordered then you won't have too long to wait as the end of the month is nearing everyday. (surprising isn't it?).
I totally spaced on the TW2 release. How is it? I totally wanted to pick it up, but just forgot when they moved the release date to.
I am very over the fence with TW2. It surely isn't bad, but after leaving the tutorial island, I feel like falling into a hole lacking motivation. I am dropped into a world, and I have no clue wth is going on or why I even should care. But it is early gameplay, so don't really ask me now.

Combos are little more than repeated mouse clicks. Combos and special moves are suprisingly easy here. You'll be fine.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
Are you speaking from experience in the beta? Or just speculating? (spelling?) lol
Experience.

I don't want to get anyone in trouble with their NDA, but the quesiton I have about this repeated mouse click combo system is do I need to go out and buy a mouse that can macro "turbo" clicks, or is there more to it than that? I suppose I'll find out in less than three week (pre-order...HOORAY!) but I am hoping that there is some nuance that I am missing to prevent turbo mice, and ping rate from making all the difference in the game.
EDIT: Oops forgot about NDA, can't wait until they drop the NDA

trust me, a friend of mine is in the beta and i watched it, tried it a little bit, you have nothing to worry about....he seemed please with it also. when it comes to the action and fighting it is very very spot on....SOE has done a great job with the combat.
Who would have thought, right?
Hey, they're allowed one successful game launch every eleven years... this is their one
