I am thinking of trying this game, i was just wondering if there are plenty of lower level players or good community to help out as i read that you can gimp your character endgame if you make a couple of wrong choices? Any info would be appreciated.
Currently playing : Darkfall
Character name : Aeola Anara
Played: Almost every P2P MMO you can get your hands on, notably:
Daoc, SWG, LOTRO, WAR, AoC + Dozens more

If you rush from start to end, yes you can gimp your toon.
If you take the time to learn the game and level slowly, you will gather the info you need as you go, and you should be fine. Furthermore there is a "respec" item you can purchase to get AP points back in case you spent them in the wrong skill.
You're not going to choose a faction before lvl 18-20 so take your time going through al the AP quests in the first area.
Community is a blast and there is an open help channel, which is a real help channel unlike many mmo out there. Then there is also a new player clan called Carebears which concentratre into helping new players.
Be warn, this game is kinda rough on the edges at first, you will need some time to adjust and appreciate the game. I don't see people jump in and say "wow". But after 2-3 weeks I see people say:"once you know the game you really appreciate it".
The game is VERY engrossing inspite of its few (and minor) flaws. It is one of the few games that has true emersion and certainly has a good community behind it. It is a shame, though that if you are a bit hard core, even taking your time means you will end-game in about a year. High end content doesn't really exist and the days of clan vs. clan PVP is long gone. My account has been cancelled for a few months now, but i am sure to re-join when Sector 4 opens up. i will probably even start completely over just to get a re-feel of the game (again, emersion is everything to me)...
Its certainly worth the money for a years sub, but you may dry out after max level...
I quited a few months ago, but can tell you that the game still have plenty of people playing it. Zone one is always filled with people, thought 80% of them you can find around the major cities :P. The community is great and always try to help you with problems, same with GM's their awsome!
I suggest try this game till you hit level 10. The flaw is prolly that the learning curve is hard and that the world can be a bit overwhelming. But don't let that stop you
