Vanguard is dead! wait? It isn't?

2:30 PM, PST time. Sunday. Most people I've ever seen on VG, even at peak time on the weekend. A few months ago, there was not really too many people outside the isle...during peak US times.
Today, I log on to trial isle, 40+ people online...people EVERYWHERE. Get off isle with one char, go to Kojan...kinda dead, but its okay I guess. Had about 9 people on starting area. Go to Qalia with 2nd char, over 40 people in starting area, people all around. Go to Thestra with my third char, over 40 people in starting area...people EVERYWHERE.
Vanguard is dead Jim! Oh wait...if going by today...population is GROWING! Even Sunday's when I played a few months ago weren't nearly as populated as it is now. Even yesterday was really crowded.

I think there's something like 40 or so people max per one iteration of the trial isle.
Or it only shows 40. This was addressed some time ago elsewhere in this forum.
It's actually been that full pretty regularly for quite some time. but I"m not really sure how many of those people end up subbing to the game.

No way. Vanguard is booming. The trail isle has tens, no hundreds, nay thousands of people trying it out. Sure, past level 10 there are only 5 people, but MY GOD THE TRAIL ISLE HAS 40 PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

40 people is the max limit on the /who list, there was a lot more than that on the isle. And if you trolls can't read (which I assume you can't, but you guys are probably kids, so its understandable), I also said qalia/thestra had over 40 people in each of their starting zones, and thats not counting elsewhere. And do remember, 40 is the max limit on /who. Kind of like typing /who in WoW, and 40 or whatever is the max as well.

Vanguard is dead.
Not because of population, but because there is no more development going on. SOE has stated that no more large scale content is being worked on. We may get a fix or tweak here or there until the game dies, but that's all that's coming.

well, if SOE does indeed not put anymore work on it, than the rumors of SOE only wanting to protect EQ/EQ2 are true. Then again, if SOE sees this raise in players, they'll put more work into it again.
In any case, we'll just have to wait and see which one of those are true. But population is definitely not dead, from what I've seen the past week.

THIS.. Sad to say.. I mean, i enjoyed Vanguard when I played it, very deep game, but when Sigil bailed on it and SoE took complete control it was doomed. They don't know the diamond they have sitting in the rough, especially with the "hardcore" crowd still screaming for a decent game..
Add some town and keep building options, make current npc towns conquerable, make the server OPEN pvp with guards around starter areas, throw in some joinable npc factions, a little server stability (most major bugs should be taken care of or in the process of being taken care of by now) and BOOM.. Crucial competion for the darkfall and mortal online players right there..
I know, its a niche market, but seriously so is EvE and people pray to that game every night.
They aren't looking for WoW success right now, they are looking for some loyal new fans (even if its in a niche market)
downloaded free trial, created character, developed headache - logged until tomorrow. Will develop opinion on game at that time.
Currently bored with MMO's.
well, SOE seems to act more as a business, sadly. I have quite a few friends that would join in an instant if there was even one update to show SOE still cares.
Still, population wise, VG is definitely not dead. But if SOE is purposely not updating it to protect their other games, like the rumors say they are...then even I admit, the population will again plummet.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
Didn't SOE drop Vanguard from their own summer fanfaire event they have every year? I don't know what says "we don't care about this game anymore" more than that. I mean, they still have panels and events there for the original EQ, but nothing for poor Vanguard.
Population isn't growing. Every few months for the past 3 years you got VG players claiming such. I know, viral marketing is important for Vanguard. But seriously, how many times do you have to scream population is growing, game is on the rise before people realizing you're just crying wolf?
Ever since the newbie trial island was introduced, it's no secret the island itself is probably the best part of the game. The problem was never with the trial island, the problem is after people step foot off it, after people subscribe for a month. It doesn't matter how many people play on the trial island, what matters is how many of these convert into live accounts....and how many of the live accounts stay longer than a month or two.
Please, stop giving people a false sense of hope & security. If the game is growing, there would be developers left on it, there would be more servers and possibly expansions. The fact is the server has more than bottomed out by now.

I wish the little propaganda boys like this one would stop trying to say the game is growing and take off their rose colored glasses and see the game for what it is, dying a slow and painful death (unfortunately).
There won't be anymore added to this game... SOE has said as much in VG's forums.
You could be right, but who do we believe ? Nobody have any concrete evidence, but I think someone playing the game, seeing the population has slightly more credibility than someone who don't.

in my honest opinion Vanguard is my second on best mmo ever made. beside Eq1 when that first came out. im not surprised it isnt dead the gameplay and classes are awesome the raiding is even better. everything about the game is great. What made me stop playing was i wanted a new type of mmo i was getting sick of auto targeting i wanted somethign like oblivion then i heard about Darkfall and now i consider Darkfall number 1 on my list Vanguard then Eq.
been playing darkfall for sometime and i dont think i coudl ever go back to your regualr commercial mmo.
oh and i think Vanguard is 10 times better than eq2 and eq and warhammer and any other typical mmo out there
I also think Vanguard is 10x better than EQ2, with all its expansions, and slapped together maps. EQ2 is a mess
