Whats wrong with creating low level content?

Turbine certainly seems to have gotten the right idea as far as f2p is concerned.  Have been enjoying my time back personally, although the deed grinds still suck, and only get worse as you go higher lol.

Interesting.. might have to give this game a shot after all.

Sounds like they are trying hard to improve their game. After all the nay sayers on this game, I backed away from it and even reading about it, until lately.

Hope things work out for both the Dev's and its gamers! :)

Egh.  Quite a long wait for another update.  Luckily my subscription dies in December.

  • McGamerMcGamer Member UncommonPosts: 1,073

    ...and your point is what?

Lotro has been popular for quite awhile before the announcement, so I don't see it being hurt by a few impatient gamers leaving because they don't get their instant gratification fix.

The expansion is fall 2011.  There will be updates before then...like the one scheduled for November 29th of this year.

Which doesn't actually add anything substantial. They reworked LMs and nerfed RKs, and added "Tasks", which basically is just a simple form of Kill X to Y quests using vendor trash. And BTW, stops at level 50.

There is nothing in it for long time players, and there likely won't be until another year (when this hits). Even if they do add more land areas before then, there's no level cap increase, which for a lot of people, dramatically reduces their desire to play.

Because while exploring and questing can be fun on their own, there's a stimulus you get from getting rewarded for dong so. And with no level cap increase for a year, that won't be happening.

Lack of content after Moria is what killed this game before F2P revived it. And it seems like Turbine is repeating history, a miniature expanion in a year, two years after the last miniature expansion is just pathetic.

Well considering no content in 9 months other than endawaith and it was small,  another 6 months till more content with one zone only.

Im like wow,  lets nerf RK's and LM's with the november update,  lets put more stuf into noob areas while we wait another 6 more months for real content, and its only going to be one zone.

Turbine shure got of track. I would have hoped by now with all the  new money comming in they would hire more dev staff and get back  to the updates every 3 months we had at the start o the game but no.

What do we get more stuff in the store, more stuff for the begining areas,  and only one 6 and we got have to wait at least another 4 months to get it.   Wow sad turbine sad.

I tried this game a couple times and the leveling turned me of to it. Signed up for the sub bout a month ago. I am not a big fan of the standard game, but the monster play is a lot of fun. I am glad to see they wil be opening it up and adding new content/ battle fields to it.

But my point is that it gives players that have money to burn up get those ingredients without effort. Therefore having gear allot faster then say those who cant afford the store. Giving an unfair advantage and making it so that Kinship (guild) members that pay leave there friends who dont pay, in the dust. Not only that, it takes away the sense of accomplishment. To many developers are dumbing there games down.

    but also too:

    1. its honestly not game breaking as this is mainly a PvE game,so who cares if joe shmoe has a tad better gear than you.

2.Some People dont have the time (family, work, insert other reason here) to do a but load of gathering, and would rather PLAY the game and enjoy it,with the time they DO have to play.

3.and like SBford said its not tradeable.

now if LOTRO was mainly PvP based I could see some major issues with this, but its not. And honestly if some ones has the money to buy ingredients all the more power to them, hell it keeps LOTRO going.

"Its like a senior discount, sure they may spend a little less money at the same resturaunt as you,but your still getting the same quality  food."

The fact that there's already enough for you to level 3 toons with completely different sets of content to at least level 30...  1-30 arent areas that content is needed at.

Good news to finally hear about a date for Isengard, but damn that is a long ways off. Talk about a fool proof plan to extend the life of the game. But I have to wonder if I won't be hooked on SWTOR before this comes out.

Needing a new level cap every xpac is complete and utter nonesense.

Listen to yourself you sound like someone that started the genre with WoW.

According to the press release at http://www.lotro.com/news/pressreleases/910 "Rise of Isengard will be available for purchase in the LOTRO Store in the Fall of 2011..." so it is not a "free digial expansion" as the op says.

Nothing wrong... As long as high level content is also created, specially when players have endured almost a year without any new high end content and with only 3 raid bosses and 3 6-man bosses to grind over and over and over cos there was nothing else to do at lvl 65.

“With the free-to-play launch, you could walk right up to the gates of Moria,” Aaron explained. “With this update, we're extending that idea so that you can walk through Moria, into Mirkwood, basically across the world as it's built without ever buying anything or paying a dime. This means that free players will enjoy a fully extended level cap (up to 65), continue to complete the epic storyline, enjoy the skirmishes that are part of that storyline, and be capable of continuing to level in new areas without purchasing the expansion.”

They have also introduced more daily quests so F2P players need to buy fewer quest packs. Less good lore quests more repeatable leveling ones. And in 2011 we get the Rise of Isengard, also free.

Where in all this is the promised model that entices F2P players to take up a subscription?

“the long-awaited addition of cosmetic pets. While the pets will not be interactive, they will be a “fun toy” to show off to your friends.”

This will no doubt be as lore breaking as the halloween horse, totally dreadful.

Whoa indeed, man! They really push the limit, but then, competition is stiff. I am looking forward for returning for the new LOTRO content. It is is a matchless beauty, to walk the world of Middle Earth. :)

In what way is the skeleton horse lore breaking? It's no possible to paint a horse in middle earth?

And why would the cosmetic pets be lore breaking (since LMs already have them)?

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Loremasters are already lore-breaking themselves. I can't recall magues everywhere running up and down followed by a bear in any Tolkien book. If you think about it, magues in Middle Earth are extremelly rare. Really. Check the books.

Eh, I was talking about cosmetic pets not LMs but whatever... I know the books pretty well and just a fyi, LMs are not mages. (not saying they are not "lore breaking" but that's another discussion).

I recently returned to Lotro.  I left before the F2P, and I have never seen LOTRO as full of players as it is right now.  Bree's streets were very crowded, and there was layers of it - never saw that before.  I do not know what you are basing your statement of people leaving on but I see no evidence of it.

    Currently bored with MMO's.

  • divmaxdivmax Member Posts: 106

He means veterans are leaving. Judging by what Bree looks like is exactly the point. Thats a low level area. It means the game is flourishing with new players - ie. without many of the loyal customers who made the game even last this long.
