Reading TOR threads makes me think that this game will get as bad community as WoW has. Too much hate even before a year before the release, wonder how rabid fanbois going to bash anyone who dares to express opinions that are not overly positively melting. Think I just have to stop following the game until release is much closer and more info available.
What? I don't even...who are you? This forum is mostly overly negative, most of the negativity having little to nothing to do with actually facts about the game. Much like saying SWTOR is not an MMO.
My thoughts on why this website is so overtly negative is probably due to the majority of us that come here are bored with MMO's, we come looking for something new, we try the game for a short while, find it isn't like our "First love" (What BS) and promptly quit.
I fully expect day to day Drama Queens spouting the same old rubbish, yet hardly ever come to the honest truth and admit IT'S GOT BORING TO PLAY MMO'S or worse still YOU'VE GROWN OUT OF THEM but just won't accept it, thats the stage I'm at, at 41 I don't want to give up my MMO habit without a fight, but after bouncing around countless MMO's over the years I realise, and this is the truly sad bit, that I'm throwing good money away on a months subscription each time I read something vaguely new has been added, via this website, and then promptly stop playing the game after 10 minutes, realising the game is still meh.
So yes this website is negative in it's views on MMO's, and it won't change until we all get off our bums and play something remotely interesting, then the negative posts will cease because who's got the time to write when your enjoying your current game .
I've been following the game for some time but yes, I'm not so much interested now than a year or 6 months ago. There are several reasons, one among them all the hate from both sides. I still hope that TOR will succeed to add more options for MMO players. Who am I? Who is asking?
Why care about the bickering so much? It's to be expected with an IP like this, it wasn't much different when galaxies was being developed, it might have been a little worse actually. However look at SWG's community back in it's prime, it was one of the best if not the best I have seen in any MMO.

Do you guys have a door that leads to that ceilingless area? I like to call it outside. Don't bother with television, TV sucks anymore.
I've read through all the posts in this thread and I believe that even though I am not excited about SWTOR, nobody shares my discontent for what we have been presented with.
Before I continue, I would like to state that this is all my opinion.
--- MAJOR PROBLEM FOR ME --- Personal storyline garantees based off what we know that Trooper A (Me) and Trooper B (Other Guy) will have the same exact story outcome, nevermind that there are choices like "Kill the Captain" and "Don't be rude". The fact is to me, that one out of every 10 people will have a story that is almost identical to my own which completely ruins the experience for me. I am not excited about this part of the game as it advertises things as "Your Story" but seems more like Yours and every other dozen of your same classes story.
--- Nitpick, but a major no sale point for me --- What we have seen of the open world and voice acting thus far completely ruins my fanboy approach to Bioware. The voice acting seems uneeded as the conversations look pale in comparison to things like Mass Effect, if I was to ever play the game I promise there is at least a 90% chance I still won't care to listen to the voice acting, especially the identical dialogue my character and another character of the same sex/class speaks. It looks to me like there is zero chance of you running in to anything unique other than the occasional "Oh, that thing is cool looking". Running around, on the same note just looks like a pain. Couple slavers here, couple banthas there. Whoop de doo, let's hope that the aesthetics and amount of interaction you can perform in the environment at least bleeds a little bit of strategy aside from "Target this, CC it, shoot at stuff while standing still". I'd really like to be able to aim my thermal detonator and choose where to drop my shield device.
--- Aesthetics, look like crap --- Are you kidding me? I watched that E3 Video that they were extremely proud to bring us, and was not impressed. Still to this day aside from the very first playthrough have I been impressed with anything I've seen. Let's go back to that shall we? It was awesome, bounty hunter flying up in the air and laying waste to stuff while the Sith Warrior chops through things wtih abandon, I was saying "Man, and this is only alpha". Since then, we've seen what... giant droids jumping onto a guy so hard that it makes a blast wave - and the trooper just stands there and keeps "Tanking" while standing still and backing up occasionally. Where are the knock backs and the flinches and the rolls to avoid the giant droid landing on you. I've watched all the E3 Videos and frankly, I just couldn't be less impressed.
--- Rail Shooter... --- Actually looks pretty fun to me hehe... I was a big Star Fox fan and it looks very renescent of Star Fox. No complaints here, I understand the design mechanics of something like that... and it actually looks REALLY GOOD.
--- Finally, The effects that my "problems" with the game have on PvP - a huge deal to me --- So let's say that you are a Jedi Knight, and the enemy you are about to engage is a Sith Warrior. Can we expect more of those terrible clipping Lightsaber fights? How about Force Choking just like in Jedi Knight 2? Maybe choke them right off the map, or at least use it to let your team treat them like a pinata. The problem is, mechanics like Cover, Lightsaber dueling, and even Trooper machine gunning... all work about as well as a midget trying to compete in american football.
I understand this point is complete speculation, but the problem is that the mechanics seem to work so poorly in controlled testing that I can't imagine how severely they will affect things like end game PvE and PvP and hell... even storyline missions. Stop me if I am wrong, but I believe a lot of the problems people have with this game right now is that Bioware has happily showed us underwhelming footage to an amazingly hyped game without that stamp that says "This is alpha footage and is subject to extreme change" or whatever that first video said. For that matter, why should I be excited for a game that looks like a pile of crap? It doesn't look like the controls will feel good in my hands, it doesn't look like something I could imagine myself playing for a long time, I am not an ALT whore - what is there in the game for me, who only want's to roll a trooper and have fun with him? I couldn't even imagine myself becoming absorbed in the PvP.
Can you tell what my problem is? It was that I was extremely excited about this game once upon a time but have since completely lost interest. If I was given a chance to test this game, I may still say the same. However, fair is fair and until I see concrete footage, I won't be making a final descision. But what you are missing for the time being, is that not everyone is buying into what we have been fed thus far. I am extremely displeased and have every right to be. I am a huge Bioware fan and a huge Star Wars fan.
Now that been said, I don't want everyone to come here and get mad at me for posting this, I know how these forums do. I simpled replied to the OPs question.

Pretty much nailed it for me. I share the exact same concerns. I was eagerly excited for the game until I saw that Sith Inquisitor leaked video..

Do you guys have a door that leads to that ceilingless area? I like to call it outside. Don't bother with television, TV sucks anymore.
No, they don't venture into that unexplorred region you speak of. You see there is this extremely bright glowing object that hurts their eyes when gazed upon, and burns their skin, turning it crazy shades of red when they are under it for more than a few minutes. It makes them feel as if they were melting. And that's just at night, God forbid they venture out there during the "gulp" daylight! They might burst into flames or dry up like raisons!

I don't think what you're saying here is exactly the same thing the Op is talking about. You actually explained in great detail what it is you don't like, I don't think anyone has a problem with that. Do you plan on writing this in every single thread that comes to be in this forum? If not, then I really don't think you're the type of person the OP is referring to at all.
Opinions are fine, intensive negativity and nagging not so much, most people still don't care about that (like myself). The only thing I will ever argue against is something that is blatantly wrong, as in misinformation or things like "TOR is just for kids".
I think people look at what the op is saying here in the wrong way. It doesn't mean everyone has to coat their posts in sugar and gumdrops. To me what the OP is saying is basically the same thing Bill Murphy hit on in his recent "The Doubtful Gamer" article. "What's with the overabundance of negativity around here?". Which is a perfectly legitimate question IMO.
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
Apologies, no I do not plan on roasting TOR rapidly. The people that do that are trolls.
I however understood the question as, "What's not to like?!" and not "Why are people trolling us?!".
It could be that they share my distaste but feel much more strongly about it, I doubt it though - you could have a game that has proven itself to be perfect and you would still get trolls because of the setting or something. Some people will troll a game just because it is so far out that they can't physically get motivated for it and just because someone posts something positive about it they feel that they must provide something that is fun for them, trolling.
So in reply to your question, no you didn't miss anything - those people actually enjoy what they are doing. You should enjoy ignoring them.

But in WOW and most other games your story is EXACTLY the same as everyone elses because you all did the same quests which had the same outcomes. At least here you have three choices you can make that can lead to different outcomes which affect your character. Then the next mission scenario adds more branches as the next etc. etc.I don't see how you can end up with the same character as every 12 with that many different possible outcomes which just keep multiplying. The missions also seems a hell of a lot more interesting than the standard "Go find 10 feathers off the bird" crap.
--- Nitpick, but a major no sale point for me --- What we have seen of the open world and voice acting thus far completely ruins my fanboy approach to Bioware. I believe they said at one time that you can skip past the dialogue, though I'm not sure I would recomend it seeing as how you have to make choices in how you answer and give orders. I always tell folks that if you aren't interested in those kind of things then this game is certainly not for you, seeing as how this a major selling point of the game.

Troopers are wearing big heavy gear and using big heavy guns. I doubt they will be able to have the nimblness of a jedi or Bounty Hunter. .

Hmmmm, I was pretty impressed when I saw the Sith Warrior force choking people. He levitates people completely off the ground and they are suspended in mid air while grasping for air.Sure as hell beat the horrible choke animation that SWG had. We also have Bounty Hunters shooting from mid air, troopers using the butts of their guns to knock people down, Smugglers doing low blows and shooting from behind trees etc. Seemed pretty impressive to me.

Plenty of people want to play trooper or Imperial Agent. Far as how the PVP will play out, who knows? No one is going to know how good the PVP is until they try it out for themselves.

The only people I've seen jumped on are the ones who make a habit of saying "I hate this game" in every single thread and being rude about it. Your thoughts were well constructed and you made some interesting points. Hopefully you'll get the chance to try it out in Open Beta and share us your thoughts on that as well

Thanks for reading.

Pretty much nailed it for me. I share the exact same concerns. I was eagerly excited for the game until I saw that Sith Inquisitor leaked video..

Hello all negative people , that dont believe in this product but still will buy it .
No matter how well written your concern is , and how many trolls will sign it .
Fact of life , this game doesn´t cater to all your individual demands .
Oh shock and horror , imagine you are nothing but a number in the world (check your id in real life)
Sadly this product caters to my demands and fun .
Woot hurray cheer for me will you ? or is that not in your interest to make other people happy ?
No this is not a baiting post neither is this a troll post , its my opnion !!!
So basically based on that assumption , i am entitled to a opnion that concerns me about this product .
IT WILL BE FABULOUS !!!
WHY cause i will be there :P , i will boost your hide off , i will help the average casual players raid .
