I wonder if they are removing the quests like the Linken quests. They had you travel all over Azeroth. It would be a shame if they did in my opinion. Those were my favorite quests, having you travel all over. However, judging from what I've seen in Northrend I have a feeling that those types of quests are gone.
Ok, so by far the largest MMORPG in the western world is implementing the biggest change to content ( ie about 4,000 new quests are being added today) along with drastically changed landscape in almost every zone in the game... all this is happening today.
I come to this site, and the featured article is about the lack of news from GW2. The 'best' news they could come up with is there is no news about an upcoming game that is probably more than 6 months away from release.
We don't care about an outdated EverQuest clone. It's not the first MMO to revamp all their newbie content. The game is six years old, it's simply not exciting for most anymore. It certainly wasn't for me, ever really. Where were threads during the EverQuest cataclysm, or the Trials of Atlantis in Dark Age of Camelot?
In terms of expansions, this one is small. Other games with 30 devs have released bigger expansions. It's really sad. Blizzard has like, 200 employees and they can only manage 2 races and revamping the old content? That's it? Oh boy, new quests, I'm sure they'll be just as boring as the thousands of other already mindless quests in the game.
Please speak for yourself and stop with the "we" crap. I'm not in the same boat as you are with your bitter outlook on WoW and the genre. I'm a older player that has preordered Cata, but I'm not playing right now. I also find it strange that you and some others here think that people like me eat, breathe and crap anything WoW. Which couldn't be further from the truth. I just happen to believe it's a damn fine mmo that has earned the respect of the industry for being a solid product.
I for one could careless about what you think the expansion contains and would like some input from someone without a chip on his (or her) shoulder. Preferably a professional who has experienced the beta. I also don't care what "others" have, will or plan to cover on their sites, magazines or blogs. Because THIS is the site I frequent. So this is the site I expect to cover all mmos no matter how big (WoW) or small (Minecraft) for me to find out the latest news. It's called supporting your base and this is my base, thank you.
P.S. Stradden I look foward on your coverage of the WoW pre-CATA patch and will be there to catch up on things I've missed while playing Perpetuum.
well said, I concur. Meanwhile the new intro is pretty awesome, cannot wait.
*lol* how about visiting the 1.000 other sites which only have ONE topic = WoW.
I'm glad this site is different thats why I'm here. If you are looking for hyping fansite stuff maybe MMO-champion and so on are the sites for you. Oh and don't forget the official forums so there are tons of site where you will find enough "shattering".
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."
This is a mmorpg news site. It is not propaganda for WoW. There are plenty of sites like that. This is not one of them. There has always been little information covered on WoW, and more on other games. I would guess its because the managers of this site have concluded those stories are less popular, and don't warrant the extra resources. Or maybe the managers just don't like WoW. I have no idea, but this site definitely is biased against WoW. Whether that comes strictly from fans, the writers and editors, or both is debatable.
I think the users of this site drive the content being covered, though. If we wanted to hear about WoW 24/7 like we want to hear about GW2 I would think the coverage would be there. Since it isn't I conclude that the MMORPG audience doesn't care much for it.
To be fair, though, this site is far more user driven. There are not a ton of news articles. Its a lot of fans talking about games, and fans whining about trolls and fanbois. Sadly the latter is getting out of control, imo.
What is there to cover... The changes have been covered time and time again since 09 Blizzcon.. If you are unaware of the upcoming changes to WoW you must live under a rock.. So why does MMORPG.com have to revisit the changes for a 101th time.. if anything a simple post of "The patch went live today" is all that needs to be said..

"By far the largest MMO" is changing the landscape and adding quests.

How do you figure? The dungeon finder is the antithesis of MMORPG. It removes the social aspect, it removes the persistent world aspect, it's pretty bad all around. If people wanted that kind of gameplay they could play Diablo for free.
Azrile most people who bother to sign up to a site like this are normally MMO veterans. There are not many MMO veterans that would consider any events that are going on in WOW to be of any interest.
Lets face it WOW is just another tired old EQ clone and no amount of new landscape or races is going to move it away from the tired old formula. How the hell you can play a game that still uses auto target button mashing shite combat is beyond me. Does it not bore the shite out of you yet?
What a shame that you think this site should focus on WOW when there are so many interesting new types of MMOs coming out (Guild Wars NOT being one of them!).
This pretty much is a prime example of what is wrong with the mmorpg.com userbase.
LOL at "there are not many MMO veterans that would consider any events that are going on in WOW to be any interests."
I didn't realize that MMO veterans had elected Saorian as their representative on the forums.
Also, I happen to know a good amount of MMO veterans (people that played games like EQ, UO, DAoC, and other older MMOs) who have played or currently play WoW. So please get off you high horse and stop trying to feel elite because you are too "Veteran" to play WoW. You are just making yourself look like an idiot.
Really, I'm not sure what I was expecting here on this site. But come on, they added 4,000 quests today. They completely redid about 75% of all the zones in the game.
I just found it ironic that it isn't even mentioned no this site, yet the featured article is about GW2 not having any news. It's really ironic since it looks like Blizzard has started advertising on this site.
And of course this isn't my primary source of WOW news. (mmo champion and wow insider).
Tomorrow's lead story, a question and answer session with the artist who picked the color to use on leaves in AOC.
So we've just skipped right over my explanation?
Yeah, I think so, most posters don't actually read the threads and the replies that are posted in them.
Its true, its pretty big news to many folks, me personally it's of only passing interest. I put WOW behind me over 4 years ago and am actually more interested in the next new class in GW2 than I am with regards to anything in WOW.
But that's just me.
^^ This.
Most posters seem to read the healine and the latest post and then go from there. I think that you, John Wood, wrote a similar article and it was comical how many people left your name out. Just goes to show that people dont read beyond enough to validate their own personal opinion (yes, i know its redunant three times over to use "their", "own" and "personal" in the same sentence as they all ahve the same meaning as I used them).
Personally, I am more interested in Rift, its beta and the rest of the class descriptions.
Besides, I do see an article about WOW and Cataclysm at the top of the page of contributor generated material.

In defense of MMORPG.com, OP, you are exactly 100% WRONG.
First of all, today is not the beginning of Cataclysm and those 4000 quests you speak of, are NOT in the game yet (in a playable way). You also cannot start a goblin or worgen yet, those zones are not fully implemented, no new dungeons are "open for business," you can't fly in the old world on your personal mounts yet, etc. LITERALLY, the only changes so far are geographical, and while that's "cool" and all....it's not anywhere CLOSE to the whole enchilada that your post seems to be referring to. This is only The Shattering, it is not the "full meal deal."
I would guess that on Decemeber 7....when there really IS news to cover....there will be coverage.
Just calm down and go respec any healing class characters you have, kick back and tour around the main cities so you'll be able to find things on LAUNCH....and calm down a bit.
There is no anti-WoW conspiracy. Cherry Grog from Booty Bay will really help with those feelings.

But the OP does have a point....The Shattering is the most game changing patch to ever hit a MMORPG...EVER. Every site I have been too today is making a big deal out of it except here, thats what the OP is referring too.
The OP was also right about the quests too. Although not ALL of them but and i quote from todays patch notes:
"Azeroth Shattered Deathwing's return has had an immeasurable impact throughout the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. Players will notice drastically altered terrain, thousands of new quests from levels 1-60, and updated level ranges for some zones to improve the questing flow."
The biggest feature is actually the new quests for the 1-60 level range that are to go with the destruction of Azeroth.
So the OP actually knows what he is talking about. The quests for the new zones, new races, arent in yet but thats for obvious expansion reasons.
Not sure what the big deal is here, its not like every MMORPG in the world is changing because WoW is putting flight capable terrain in thier game today. The new quests, thats great, how many old ones did they delete today to make room for the new ones? More or less (pretty sure every old vanilla quest is now gone right - 550 Horde Eastern Kingdom + 700 Alliance Eastern Kingdom + 685 Horde Kalimdor + 700 Alliance Kalimdor = 2635) ??
This isn't a massive change to the genre either. Yes WoW is a big MMORPG game, yes it has alot fo people who play it, but it is still only 1 of 100s of MMORPGs on the market. It is also NOT the genre all by itself as some like to think it is. When the game WoW makes a change, only WoW makes a change. And yes, lets not forget the reason behind the shattering itself, fixing the old vanilla world so players can fly in those regions. Typically fixing old content (Vanilla WoW) to allow for currently in game mechanics (Mounted Player Flight) introduced in old expansions (Burning Crusade released on January 16th, 2007) is not counted as 'new' or 'game changing'.
While we are all happy they finally got around to allowing us the ability to fly in the Eastern Kingdom and Kalimdor, it should be remembered that Cataclysm, and the Shattering are just the mechanics Blizzard is using to FIX the world so we can fly in it, every other detail that comes along with it is secondary for the need to completely change the world maps to accommodate this change. Most definately NOT a game changer in the genre.
As for your patch updates on this site, I'd expect you will see them like everyone else does for all the other MMORPG games out there. An official site will list the patch notes, a fan of the game will copy them and bring them here to the forums to let everyone else know about them (the OP didnt' do this, I'm surprised). And sometime later, after verification, editing, and whatever else is needed - the staff of MMORPG.COM will post an editorial on it. Just because it is WoW doesn't mean it deserves any special treatment on this site, this is an overall MMORPG site, not a WoW fansite. Expecting more is unrealistic.

The frustration by the OP was supported by a lot more people than some posters on mmorpg.com would expect.
It's enough to browse through the suggestive "NEWS" titles mmorpg.com editors make that shows the general attitude towards the number one.
"5 ways Cataclysm would suck" (then followed by a so called in cheek humour that wasn't even funny, but referred to the 4-year olds playing "the thing").
"My account was hacked" article: thereby not even following the sites own rules of putting all those trolling posts into one global thread. Because frankly Blizzard 100's troll of posts stealing their own paswords was pathetic during several weeks.
"The end of Azeroth ... or the beginning?" was the last title added (quickly written to counter the OP's statement).
As much as the editors of this site want to support these typical mmorpg.com feelings against the number one ("that killed our old beloved games"), it shows an attitude they rarely make against other MMO's.
The problem is ... that you create an atmosphere that makes you stand at the border instead of the center of the MMO world.
And these last years I think a policy of supporting/hyping simply bad developped games and trash talking the number one isn't a very smart thing to do at all.
I think OP is right, there are about 3-4 real news as average per week in MMO industry, all the other articles posted here are editorials. A new major patch is a news that should be talked about. If you look at the main articles in the homepage, there is an article about the last and upcoming patch in LOTR. Why not talk about last and upcoming patch of WOW ? the last patch was about the new talent trees and today's patch should have bin annouced but no, they decided to wait and let anyone else speak about the topic of the week without them. Will they wait 2 weeks after the Cataclysm lauch to tell us its launched? there are some really old news still posted on the homepage, what would it have cost to move it away? Seriously, its not about being anti-wow that bothers me (even if they seems to be), its about their professionnalism as reporters that really bugs me here. Journalism is about getting the news 1st, having a scoop, not waiting events to come, wait until everyone is bored of the subject then write on it. Why not try to get some flash news from the dev. themselves? try to sneak in, call Blizzard, make interviews, DIG INFORMATIONS HACK THEIR SERVERS!!! (kidding). No only a : we will do a review a week after its out . One more thing: the news about no news in GW2 is really LOL.

I play WoW, but I'm sorry, your view of the game community I find truely disturbing. The MMO world does NOT revolve around Blizzard or WoW like you think it does. And seriously, do you really need to post all the rabid fanboi comments, elitist remarks, and general baiting like this? This is the exact kind of post that gives everyone the bad impression of us WoW players. And if you think these boards are negative against WoW and not other games, well then you obviously haven't spent much time on the other game forums on this site. WoW is the golden child compared to how most are treated here.

The "golden child" is treated by an official rating of 81% on this site and placing it not even in the top 20..
While the complete and overall reviews on the web gives it a whopping 92.5 % and placing it around 10% higher than other Fantasy MMO's.
In fact not one other site of those professional reviews even comes close to that appalling low score the mmorpg.com website gives it to your "golden child".
Combine these scores with the attitude and choosing of words in even the headlines I mentioned above by EDITORS (not posters), I think we have a pretty good picture here about the overall attitude towards the "golden child".
The board staff can't just post news on these boards without an official announcement, otherwise it would be considered an assumption, people read these forums with trust. Secondly if mmorpg.com treated WoW like the best thing since sliced bread and focused on WoW more than any other MMO's, then that wouldn't be fair on all the other titles out there which are popular in their own right. The Guild Wars 2 post about the silence was actually the company (AreaNet) posting on their own site about why the news flow has slowed, because the fans asked why..You can't dig at MMORPG.com for that, news..is news... If you don't like the way things are run here; Professionally, then don't come on this site, I love this site because all I hear is truth, FACTUAL information which I can relay to my friends, what if they released the news about the update before the official announcement and then it didnt happen you' all be like ''WTF DUDES, WHEREZ MY UPDATEZ''
Thanks mmorpg.com for doing what you do, your awsome

Factual information can be aquired 2 major ways ... 1 waiting for it or 2 investigating. They choose to wait, we choose to whine about it, on this matter job wasnt done and i dont like my #1 MMO site to behave like they did (sorry for vocabulary, sentences etc. I speak french as 1st language, my ideas might not come out right).
As I said news in the MMO genre arent that overwhelming there should have bin a small smothing about WOW anyways. It's not as big as 9/11 but it is a big news in MMO genre.
And btw the 'if you dont like it go elsewere' argument is quite lame, FF14 survivors used it over and over again.

I'm very confused here obviously. MMORPG official score for World of Warcraft is 8.1, player rating of World of Warcraft on this site is 8.2 based on 9109 total votes (at this time). Pretty much every game on the market (already launched) has periodic re-reviews done by the site, and based mostly off of the ratings given by the users who post thier own ratings on the games. If the overall user rating drops, the official will likely follow in time. If your trying to say MMORPG.COM is rating WoW too low, then may I suggest you scream more at the 9109 forum users who rated the game at an 8.2 overall as well. To which I believe you are a part of, unless I'm further confused and you are in fact not an MMORPG.COM user and a player of World of Warcraft. Defending WoW by infering that the staff of this site are solely to blame for giving an unfair and low rating to WoW, and not even taking into account the 9000+ other people who rated it similarly is just bad form.

Played SWG, EVE, Fallen Earth, LOTRO, Rift, Vanguard, WoW, SWTOR, TSW, Tera
Tried Aoc, Aion, EQII, RoM, Vindictus, Darkfail, DDO, GW, PotBS

"Azeroth Shattered
Deathwing's return has had an immeasurable impact throughout the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.
Wasn't an explanation. It was an excuse. Every other site bar MMORPG.com seems to be managing. Well done for spewing your usual rubbish though.

I find this thread extremely funny.
Its simple, Cause we 2 hardcore for that shit, and even if WoW Rips out a new asshole, we wouldnt give a shit once again!
Some people would say.
