Wait... but by the time the game is playable (maybe) you will have half a dozen other games to ponder spending money on. Plus the PS3 is cheaper than upgrading a computer to play a game that performs badly across a wide range of windows machines.

I'm confident that this game will be something to write home about after december, but its still lacking in "things to do".
S-E admitted themselves they put too much emphasis on the game functioning than being a game, hence the 60 day extension on the "free trial" given too all players who bought the game at release.
Wait for the PS3 release. That's the platform the game is designed for. Plus, there might be actually something to do by March too, if Rift, GW2, SW:TOR, or TERA haven't caught your interest by then.
You should wait. But that doesn't mean you have to get it for PS3. "This game" will hopefully be a "Good/Great game" by the time it is released for PS3. However, there are good reasons why you might still want to play on PC....for example, 1080p!!

My PS3 does 1080p perfectly. Not to mention Dolby Digital HD and DTSHD through HDMI.
PS3 slim.
Not to mention you will probably be looking at a much larger screen than your monitor.
You will also be using the PS3 controller that the game was designed for anyway.
I don't know of any other "good reason" to play the game on PC.

Hook your HD compatible computer upto your 60" HDTV. Buy a gamepad, it's PS3 without the lameness of Sony At least that's what I do. Sony makes cruddy things. My PS2 broke a month after I got it. and it broke again a year after it got fixed (right after it went out of warranty). My PS3 overheated about a month and a half ago. I had a Sony Vaios a while back, it overheated as well...I don't buy anything with Sony on it anymore.

Just because the hardware can do it does not mean the games will use it, in fact most games on both consoles don't use real 1080p, instead they use a 2/3rd resolution upscaled to 1080p.
FFXIV will be released with a physical resolution of 1080p and a rendering resolution of 720p just like most of the games on the PS3 and XBOX360.
I play the game right now with a PC in REAL 1080p on a 48" HDTV, using a standard PS3 controller.
The game looks amazing and runs smooth even on my old PC. Intel Q6600, 8GB 800Mhz RAM, GTX 460. The only thing i upgraded in the last 3 years was the GPU from a 9800 to a GTX460. The game is certainly more "future proof" on a PC as new GPU's come out and the engine will be used to it's maximum potential.
In March the game will most likely be polished and has more content and the PS3 makes for a good standardized platform if you want to play in your living room on the big screen TV.
It's really up to you. If you have a PS3 already and your PC needs upgrading i would wait. If you are going to upgrade your PC anyways i would start on the PC.

Buy before everyone jumps on the bandwagon finally an get strong. you can wait for a ps3 release but by the time that happens you could be dominated the server instead of being noob :P.
If you do decide to play it now, buy it from eBay. People are almost throwing the game away there. $7 for a normal edition and $15-20 for the Collector's Edition

Yea, true..but you know you can run the game on 1080p on a decent gaming computer if you have a monitor that has a native resolution of "1920 x 1080". In fact, I'm using one right now on my gaming pc which I use to play FFXIV Max settings on "1920 x 1080" with my GTX 470. As long as you have a decent Graphics card, then you will experience everything what FFXIV has all to offer. But not everyone wants to spend 1grand-2grand to buy or upgrade their computer just to play FFXIV.
So I just hope Square Enix can manage to make the game run good with decent graphics on the PS3, which I know they can just by taking advantage of the PS3's hradware that can take time. I'm talking about games like Killzone 2, 3, Uncharted 2, and Gran Turismo 5. All these games takes advantage of PS3's hardware that can run the game on full 1080p(if I'm not mistaken).

Just to sum up what somebody already said (in a lot more detail), THE PS3 WILL NOT RUN 1080p FOR THIS GAME.
Unless plans have changed.

We also support multiple displays, so players can use two or three displays to show that game." --Hiromichi Tanaka
If you play try to find someone you know who plays to give you their buddy key which lets you download the client for free and still play out the free month, so you'll be playing the game for free.

You either play for potential right now, or wait until you can play to have fun.
