Bah, I was thinking of buying GW2 but, after seeing that video, not so much interested anymore.Graphics and Art Style are alright, gameplay I was hoping for something a little better to be honest (most videos were misleading), as someone else mentionned in earlier pages, it does seem like the game appears to be solo-friendly, which is something I completly hate as I'm all for communities. Quests, nothing impressive here and while we didn't exactly get to see the whole Event System in action, I don't hold great hopes for it either compared to Citadel Of Sorcery's Event System they are working on (then again, CoS has yet to hit the same development stage as GW2, don't think they've reached "Alpha" yet.). Overall, disappointed by what I've seen in this 50 minutes video.
The game clearly is overhyped, and I expect a lot of "this game sux" posts at launch. Ready...., Set....., Grab your bowl of popcorn!

I respect your opinion, and hope that you find the game that you are looking for. However, I must say that I've yet to find a negative response from anyone who actually played the demo. Quite to the contrary. So I"m not inclined to think that the entire launch will be a failure.
And about the "the game sux" posts that will inevitably show up at launch, there is a likely chance that they will mostly come from people who developed unwarranted visions of grandeur concerning what the game was supposed to look like, and set themselves up for disappointment. Its possible to get so overly excited about something that your expectations of the product outshine what was actually promised in the first place.
In my opinion, as well as MMORPG, and all the other major gaming sites, everything that A-Net promised would be in the demo, was in the demo. In fact, many people felt that they saw more than what was promised.
But it is your opinion, so I'll stop there.

I really saw a lot of bad in that video personally. Made me even less hyped for the game. Lots of flashy skills don't make combat fun to play so until i try it out i can't make a decision on combat.
Cutscenes were horrible looks like an old nes cutscene and I dunno all the people talking in the cutscenes holding up there hand and their heads shaking constantly really bothered me.
The running animation for the female hunter really bothered me. The turning of the char didn't look smooth at all. It looked like the person was over turning almost every time they turned.
The char models however look Great.
And yes the DE's look like PQ's from War to me. And there appears to be no reason to group as you can get the same reward playing solo.
And for a game with no Healing class the water elmentalist sure looks like they do a lot of healing in battle.

Oh I'm sure GW2 will be a very succesfull game, just like GW1 was. I highly doubt GW2 will "fail", but my point is that it's being overhyped (same goes for most MMOs but over the recent months, SWTOR and GW2 have received the largest amount of hype) and if it's overhyped too much, there will be a "shit-load" of "This Game Sux" posts at launch. Though, not much players can do to stop the hype.

They never said there was no healing, just that there are no dedicated healing classes. The water ele is support oriented and does some healing, but does a fair bit of damage as well. It literally takes 2 seconds for them to switch to fire, air, or earth though and focus more on damage/control.
I understand they can change to other elements but I can guarantee people are gonna be hollaring for elementalist that are water to be deicated healers. Sure they can attack while healing but other mmos allow healers to be effective in combat as well as heal. They might not call them a dedicated healer but from what i have seen they will end up being so. Just my opinion.

I don't care that it is alpha all i get to see right now is alpha footage so it is the only thing i can base my opinion on. Sorry if you can base your opinion on everything will be okay by launch but until i see better right now that is what the game is to me. It may change but right now nope those things bothered me. The cutscenes were purposely not pre-rendered to allow your character to appear in the cinematics. The animation in the early level scenes, in my opinion, looks somewhat exaggerated.

I'll admit that I still had mixed feelings about the character dialogue cutscenes and player character voiceovers. The movement of the characters are a little annoying, and the voice-overs for your character, as well as their responses to the NPCs seem to be pre-selected by the game so far. What I would prefer is something more on the scale of mass effect or dragon age, where you can select exactly what you want to say, giving you more dialogue options to flesh out your character with. IMO, they could have sacrificed the voiceovers for the player character, and just given you several response options at the bottom. And then let all your dialogues be able to be saved in a journal like DAO. That would be cooler, in my opinion.
I'm still trying to let the player character voiceovers grow on me. I'd rather imagine my own voice for my character and have more options. However, this is not a make or break issue for me, and I may come to actually like the new take from A-Net.

The death-downed system system is very similar to Borderlands. It's actually a very good system that feels fun, but still penalizes you and makes you think about what you could have done to not die, yet doesn't feel like a pause in the gameplay, and gives you a chance to come back, wich feels great if you died because of some really stupid reason that's not under your control (a lag-spike for example).
I suggest you try the game out, because it's a really fun game, and some of the mechanics resemble what guild wars 2 is doing. I was sceptical about the downed system too, but it's actually pretty fun.

Actually all the professions are almost equal in healing players. The devs are still improving and making traits in order to have balance in the game, and the traits give the skills a personal touch. For ex: You can have the same Fire Skill that other person has, but the traits that you have chosen can make that skill heal you, while the other player has chosen traits that make the same skill do a completely other thing. Of course, they are still balancing the traits in order to have penalties in some ways in order to have gains in anothers (for ex: if you chose to have that skill to heal you, you will lose power in attack or something else).
And there will be few skills that can have traits in order to heal, because they are looking for more supporting skills than healing skills. That's why there won't be dedicated healers, because there won't exist enough skills to have a completely dedicated healing skill bar to start with.
There are videos where you see a Warrior using an aoe healing-supporting skill. He places a flag in the ground and those players near it can be healed. He doesn't need to be there to heal others and can even pick the flag and put it in another place if he wants to. As you see, all the classes have balance in healing and supporting. The fact that it's still in Alpha means that they are still fixing major flaws and improving the game in all areas. Although I think there aren't that much of major flaws in the game demos showed. But if they say that there is much work to do, than I believe them. Better work the game to it's perfection than releasing the game with flaws and call it done.
So, I played GW factions for a little while.. i like it it was not bad... But i felt like it had no depth... I got to lvl 20, Maxed lvl. and thats when i got off Noob island and started the game.. I soon got what was the best gear that i could get in the game after about 2 months of play and i felt like there was nothing else worth trying to get to better myself...
So i hope other then the game looking good... that it offers more in the way of depth.. O yea and a better Grouping Exp.. seems like most people just grabed the NPC's to make there own team and the way they went...
Having doubts that my pc will be able to run this now after watching some of that >.<
Looks really good and exciting too, especially liked how the event/quest near the beginning worked, no need for groups or individual mobs spawned per person, everyone in that area can just automatically help each other out, really makes a situation seem more believable and best of all no KSing! lol
If you can run the original Guild Wars then there is a good chance you will still be able to run this. They allowed their artists to basically draw everything in game, so as to keep the system requirements close to what they were for Guild Wars.
I'm an Archer in reality so there are things that bother me about the video that mos tof you don't really care about, I'm sure.
The lack of a quiver on the character's back is bothersome. Does that mean that in the GW universe you're shooting "magic arrows"? That concept is irksome.
I don't like the skill where she was firing 10 shots in less than 5 second. Having to see that a million times over and over, is annoing.
I like an archer who shoots once, and kills something. Shoots it right in the damn face. With one arrow. So much more efficient.. and realistic. Two or three shots is even fine, but 10 shots over and over to kill a giant garden worm... it just gets old in my book.
Anyway, I'll silly play it. MMOs never do Archery right anyway. Oblivion was the best for the bow and the arrow.
Well, as with other classes your weapon will pretty much dictate your playstyle/role. The shortbow ranger we see in the video is a mid-range kiter who can shoot continuosly and on the run and even use positionals (like very short stun if you hit directly from back). ANet said that the longbow is going to be a much slower, long range spike damage weapon so I suppose this might appeal to your preferred style.
On the other hand I completely agree with the quiver bit, funny I didn't notice it at first.. IMO there definitely should be a quiver present while you have your bow equipped. ANet, are you listening?

Dude guess what, a 7 foot axe in you're face would kill you as well. They can't make it that easy to kill with a bow because then it would be too easy. I remember in the Age of Conan beta where the ranger class could one hit people 10 lvl's higher than them selves. Its an issue of realism vs game-balance. Hence I don't play archers in MMO's.
EDIT: I do aggree that there should be a quiver on them, its like having no strings on the bow.
(Yes, playing a ranged Assassin in Oblivion was phun! )
I seriously cannot wait for this and am saving up in the mean time for an Alienware rig. I havent played an MMORPG since I quit WOW back in 2006 and I am hoping this is going to do for me everything that WOW did.
Hey Cyphers, while I see that you have a "version" of this video on your sticky, your version has voices in the background. This version is the full 50 minutes with no voices in the background. Is it possible for you to attach this in your thread as well? I think this is the best video by far.

Somebody mentioned that they hope that ranged weapon skills are different for rangers and warriors. I believe that ANET announced that warriors will have less precise AoE type blasts and rangers will focus more on precise, sniping abilities!
Ok, the video was nice, but I don't see anything spectacular. I could take 2 current MMO's to describe GW2 as being not innovative. Granted, this video didn't show everything GW2 has to offer, but still, it showed the basics and it isn't a whole lot different than whats out there.
So, without further ado... GW2 is basically FFXIV + WarHammer in one. Plus I still haven't received a straight forward answer as to whether GW2 utilizes the same phase instancing as WoW.
The game looks good, but I'm more concerned about whether an MMO plays good. Think we all know how FFXIV failed to prove itself with pretty trailers and graphics.
There will be no phasing. And tbh even from the info you can get from that video, you can hardly summarize GW2 as WAR + FF14.

? Strange comparison, especially with FFXIV.
There really is quite some innovation in it - at least more than you'll see or have seen with other MMORPG's - but true, it isn't what you'll just see from one video. For example, from all the dev interviews and explanations - and also by the examples in the videos - it's quite clear that GW2's Dynamic Event system is completely different from WoW's phasing mechanic. And that's just one example.

Well if you take in consideration the e3 video for FFXIV you will see that it was very close to the current game, same pace and all, I noticed for example, the slow pace of combat in those videos already

There are some similiarities though. Just like FF14, GW2 features a continuous storyline with in-game cutscenes. And visuals in both games are much lighter and color rich, unlike other recent MMOs which have darker art style and a lot of purple/brown/black (Rift, Wotlk, WAR, Aion...)...

If you can run the original Guild Wars then there is a good chance you will still be able to run this. They allowed their artists to basically draw everything in game, so as to keep the system requirements close to what they were for Guild Wars.
(Yes, playing a ranged Assassin in Oblivion was phun! )

Thanks so much for the link. I really enjoyed watching this actually.
My only complaint is for wanting to kick the demo player in the snotch for picking an Elementalist over a Necromancer.
You stay sassy!

There will be no phasing. And tbh even from the info you can get from that video, you can hardly summarize GW2 as WAR + FF14.
Sure, no prob, added it to the other Wartower Spotlight videos

It doesn't look like a PC game
FFXIV?
What the heck

Care to explain why? xD
