Cinematics, Really?

CallsignVegaCallsignVega Member UncommonPosts: 288

Is anyone besides myself really sick and tired of game cinematics? My favorite is games that advertise themselves with their cheesy CGI movies instead of, well, the actual game play?!

Every single game cinematic I have ever seen I immediately press escape and bypass. What boring drivel.

It seem's to me around 90% of the videos I find about new games like Guild Wars 2 are retarded cinematics that have nothing to do with game play.

    It's called bulding hype.

Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.

I agree with OP. It doesn't create hype for me seeing those videos, I want to see gameplay and actually want to play the game based on what the GAMEPLAY looks like.

The purpose of the cinimatics is to convey the mood of the game. To incite excitement of the lore.

Still I would like a mixture of the two.

Dev houses do not dictate whether or not a CG trailer or in game trailer gets released. That is entirely up to the marketing monkeys whos entire job revolves around building and controlling hype.

Games these days are extremely focus tested as they are huge money sinks and risky endevours. That you are not effected by CG does not make them stupid as you probably fall into the 5 or 10 percent of the population that marketers deem unimportant.

    In other words...get over yourself.

    Playing: Tera, BF3, ME3

    Waiting on: Guild Wars 2

I agree with the OP as well. Are you really saying these forums should only be used to put forward opinions that marketeers would find agreeable?

Given a choice, i'd much rather see in game footage than fancy cinematics. If that puts me in a 10% minority then so be it, but i'm inclined to believe you made that statistic up.

    I disagree.

I can enjoy a well-crafted cinematic on its own merit, regardless of the game its portraying.  I don't see them as advertising, but as fun little, self-contained vignettes.  For instance, I enjoyed the Cataclysm trailer, but not because I wanted to see how the game played, but because it was a fun little piece of fantasy artwork.  I wasn't intending to buy Cata and I'm still not.  I'm not even a fan of WoW.  I just liked the cinematic.

If I intend to make a decision to buy a game based on a gameplay vid, I'll wait until they start getting posted on YouTube, and in the meantime, enjoy the fantasy eye candy that's available.
