The List this week features a look at some of the ugliest races ever to grace the hallowed pixels of our favorite MMOs. Bill Murphy has pulled some mirror-breaking folk from expected, and maybe a few unexpected, places. Check out his list and then add some uglies in our comments section below.
I’m shocked at just how many player races there are which seem utterly unappealing to me. If I’m going to spend hundreds of hours looking at a character, I really should hope that he or she is aesthetically pleasing to my eye. And maybe that’s the case. People have different ideas of what’s pretty and what’s not, right? Either way, this week’s list is all about the ugliest races in MMOs today.

Id like to nominate anything from Final Fantasy. Why does everyone have cat ears?
Personally I kinda like the undead, and really like the Frogloks....back when I played EQ.
Frogloks and Gnomes? Those are some of my favorite races in an MMO. Not on my "ugly" list.

WHAT THE HEY?! Froglok is awesome and original.. god, what is wrong with your taste? No seriously, I wish there were Frogloks in every game.
To me the most ugly of them all are the humans......damn pinkskins
I loved my Froglok in EQ!! Him & I went a long way in that game!!
Gnomes are so dang cute! I do not care what others think, & I love their dance moves!
And - I just started a Gobby shammy in Cata.. for some reason I think she is adorable! I like the way they run, ears flopping and all!
I had such a blast in the gobby newb area yesterday especially with the hot rods.. haha! Like to of had one of those "rods" in RL!

I disagree with Undead, Froglok and Gnome races, even if i can't play short races i can't find these ugly. Neutral towards Rodian and The Shar does look bad but...
First version of Ogres and Trolls in Everquest were ugly but in a funny way. Erudite is an ugly race overall and not because of the skin color.Bearded dwarves females were ugly as hell but funny.
I found mostly all races ugly in Everquest 2, don't like the overall models for them.
WAR: elfs races were really ugly but mainly because the way they moved, they looked like malformed teen.
WOW: Dwarves females (again), the way their breast move is ...awful... Trolls, beside their *mon cool factor* i could never get to like that race in WoW, i guess for me Trolls are more monstrous big race.

I don't really agree with anything on this list, except Gnomes maybe, as you have to hate Gnomes just out of principle, but I wouldn't call them ugly.
I'll start off by saying that in any game Dwarves would be my favorite race. So I don't hate all short people!
My list is made up of games I've played didn't bother looking at ones that I never got into.

4. Aracoix - Shadowbane
3. Lurikeen - DAOC
2. Inconnu - DAOC
1. Halfling - D&D
Seriously though wtf is up with the halfing head in D&D? It is just terrible!

Frogloks in Eq1 were epicly awesome(new phrase?), and Frogloks in Eq2 are even more of a badass then they could possibly be. Anyone who doesn't enjoy Frogloks are normally very prude woman.

Ummm.....every race is LoTRO is ugly. That game should sweep this list.
bah, this is just a list of the races that one author dislikes the most. Gnomes may be annoying but they are hardly ugly when compared to how many monsterous races are out in various games that are specifically intended to be ugly. Trolls and ogres in EQ and EQ2. Greenskins and now Skaven in War. Hell, even the humans were ugly in that game.

I actually think the Frog dudes look really cool, and I don't know anything about EQ2 beyond the starter island that I played and instantly got bored with. I like WoW's undead too, though only certain ones. Some of them are falling apart and gross >< But others look pretty bad ass in a nice set of armor. The others are pretty bad though, including the gnome >< They don't look like gnomes, they have the proportions and pose of a malformed midget. No offense to anyone here who happens to be a gnome. Or a midget.
I still sucked it up and played as one during my brief stint in WoW, just cuz they're all magical n' stuff.

I nominate every character model in Vanguard. They range from appearing to have a mild case of down's syndrome to being some teratological terror that somehow managed to live past birth. Even if some look almost normal, once they move or have any kind of character animation you immediately sense "WRONG!" from them.
If you think the Gnome are so cute that they are annoying then you should check out that baby looking race in FF XI, they are horrible.
But yeah, DAoC had alot of ugly races. But the spell effects in that game was absoletely superior to any other MMORPG so I forgive them because of that.

When it comes to games, I'm a racist. :P Pretty much always prefer the most human race there is.
I'm not really big on high fantasy, so yeah, totally agreed on not liking the little purple frog guys or some little midget guy with 4 arms and an insectoid head. One of many reason EQ and EQ2 didn't appeal to me when they launched.
But I'm surprised that of all the SWG races, the OP picked on Rodians. What about the Ithorians, or the hammer headed race? Almost all the races are ugly. Sollustians? Blech!
I actually like Rodians. I was hoping to make a Rodian Jedi in SWTOR, but it sounds like they're sticking to only humanish races, so my dream is dashed. Oh, the irony!

My Tauren Druid never groups with any Undead. They are unnatural. And ugly.
Even on a RP server this is hard to accept for most Forsaken.
He'd rather group with members of any Alliance race (especially his Night Elven Cenarion Circle colleagues), but unfortunately Blizzard makes that impossible.
Use an updated graphic of DAoC and then tell me the shar are ugly....
EASY for me to answer:
Ogres, Erudites, Trolls in EQ2. Period. Those are the three ugliest races EVER in my opinion.
WoW doesn't HAVE any ugly races in comparison, but the undead would rank just below those for me.

I find the models from Vanguard to be super blocky and ugly. I think Vanguard is a great game (at least the dungeons and world, and races are pretty awesome. but the character models, really rely on people overlooking the blockiness, and the look of characters wearing 'depends' diapers.
My list would be.
1. Firbolg - DAOC
2. Draeinei - WOW (So ugly!)
3. Troll - WOW
4. Inconnu - DAOC
5. Gnomes - Vanguard
